In this week’s paranormal evidence, Jim, Tanner and I seem to recently have run across a concerned ghost. We didn’t realize he was concerned at the time, but certainly after the fact we heard him. The clip was captured outdoors with a slight breeze blowing, which you will hear as background noise.
There were three of us present – me, Jim and Tanner. There was no one else in the area. On the recording, you will hear Jim say “Ow!” Then you will hear another voice expressing concern over his injury. At the very end, you’ll hear my son Tanner start to say something. So three male voices. The one in the middle was not one we heard at the time.
Here’s what I hear: “Oh, dear. Did it hurt?”
What do you hear?

This week, get out your head phones. It is a quiet EVP, but there’s definitely something going on there.
In the longer clip, you’ll hear an investigator say, “Come on – don’t be afraid. We’re not going to hurt you.” Listen and you’ll hear the response – very softly. Next, listen to the second clip, which is a shortened, cleaned up clip of the first one. It only contains the EVP. This is probably a class B or C EVP at best, but seems responsive to what the investigator is saying.

This week’s evidence is kind of a smorgasbord. Many of you know that I have pretty heavily investigated the site of the Wellington avalanche in Washington State. I wrote about it in my recently released book, Avalanche of Spirits: The Ghosts of Wellington.
We spent Saturday evening there doing our first investigation there in several months. We were with members of NWPIA and Cascade Paranormal.
I’ll start at the beginning. One of the phenomena that people report is a woman singing in the parking lot. As a matter of fact, I have a few EVPs I can post (they’ve been posted here before, but I’ll post them here, as well.)

So – flash forward to last night. We were doing some cautious experiments with a Ouija board – something I have never tried. To me, a Ouija board is just a game – like monopoly. I know many other people feel that Ouija boards are portals to the dark side. We thought we’d give it a try. Two of us were sitting at the Ouija board. We were both barely touching the planchette with our fingertips – to the point that you could probably have shined a light underneath our fingers. As the planchette moved, both the other person operating it and I could both feel the planchette actually sliding under our fingers as they remained stationary – I’d have to move my fingers to catch up to the planchette. It was moving very, very slowly – so we were sort of looking away, chatting with the people with us as it took its time moving. When it would stop, we’d look down at it and read what it had stopped on.
Long story short, what we discovered is that yes, there was someone there who was from the town of Wellington. Their name was G-E-R-T (at which point I said, “Gertrude?” and the planchette moved agonizingly slowly to yes.) I asked Gertrude if she was the one who sang in the parking lot. The answer was yes.
So that was the entire Ouija board session. The planchette was so slow in moving that we gave up after the few slow coming answers we’d gotten.
Now I am going to whisk you back through time. About three months ago, I had my first psychic reading ever with a psychic medium named Jennifer Hicks. I did it for an article I wrote for Paranormal Underground. It was an odd reading, because it seemed to be mostly the spirits from Wellington coming through. You can read the article in our April, 2010 issue of Paranormal Underground.
One of the questions I asked back in March when I had the reading was, “Who is the woman who sings in the parking lot.”
I came away with the understanding that my answer to that question was a woman named Sara Jane Covington, who was one of the passengers on the train killed in the avalanche that took place there in 1910. I reached that conclusion because Jennifer told me that the singing woman had an “A” in her name (Sara Jane was a proper lady who went by the formal name of Mrs. M. A. Covington). She also said she was highly religious (it is known that Sara Jane was) and that she kept seeing nuns in a convent (convent sounds like Convington.) Yeah – it was a stretch. Turns out it may have been too much of one. In reviewing today for the first time in a few months what Jennifer said to me when I asked about the singing lady, the first thing she said to me was, “I’m getting a religious vibe. She calls out the name ‘Gertrude!’”
I don’t even recall her saying that. I had discounted that information thinking it was a “miss” and I was onto something with the whole Sara Jane Covington thing. So I was kind of surprised when I found that, to say the least.
That’s my story. Now here are my questions:
-Coincidence?
-Did I somehow remember the name Gertrude subconsciously and then use my brain/ideomotor response to move the planchette to spell out Gertrude in spite of the fact that the planchette moved from under my fingers rather than me using my fingers to move the planchette?
-Could there be something more to this?

Let me know what you think. Please don’t chastise me for using a Ouija board. I am well aware of what many others think about them. I’ve read all of the arguments both for and against. It was an experiment. I am interested on what you think of the rest, though.
Here’s the question
Our evidence this week comes from Katie Christopher of NEPA Paranormal. Katie wrote our Paranormal Underground magazine’s June 2010 Ghost Hunter Case Files about an intriguing case the team investigated early this year that involved a man in Reading, PA, who believed the spirit of a deceased Amityville murder victim was trying to contact him. The June issue will go online within a few days. In the meantime, here are a few EVPs that NEPA Paranormal caught during the investigation. What do you hear?
EVP #1: “Dawn is here.” (about 11 seconds into the recording)
EVP #2: “Olly olly oxen free.” (NEPA Paranormal’s client was saying he hoped the spirit dosen’t hide during the investigation, and this phrase was caught. It is quite clear on the recording.)
EVP #3: “Love.” (About half way through, you can hear the same female voice as in EVP #1 say a drawn out “love.”)
EVP #4: “Oh no no.” (This almost sounds like a struggle and a female saying, oh no no. Again, it is quite clear in the recording.)
Thanks to Katie and all of NEPA Paranormal for sharing this evidence with us. To learn more about NEPA Paranormal, visit www.nepaparanormal.com.

I’m done reviewing my evidence from our investigation of Wellington on the 100 year anniversary of the avalanche disaster this past Sunday night/Monday morning. Wellington was as serene and peaceful as I have ever seen it – but I think the spirits knew we were there.
Gathering evidence was an interesting exercise in below freezing weather. I have some really cool video clips where mists form and move purposefully. If I didn’t know how darn cold it was, I’d be excited about them. As it is, I’d bet my eyeteeth that it is all condensation from breath – but it doesn’t make it look any less cool.
I am attaching a few interesting anomalies that I captured on my Olympus DS-40. As NWPIA discovers their audio anomalies, I am sure they will post them on their website, so check in with them – www.nwpia.com.
All of these are very subtle. You’ll need a good set of headphones to hear them. I’ve captured the voice from #4 before with an entirely different set of people with me – but in the exact same location in the snow shed.

I’m going to release a few more Wellington EVPs. I think as I said, I had well over 70, so I figure if I trickle a few out here and there, it will keep you entertained. Plus, let’s face it – it’s a much quicker way to write a blog.
So – onward with a few.
#1: Well I am pretty sure I know what it says but it makes no sense. Just saying.
wha
#2: Random singsong noise.
singsong
#3: A whisper asking a question. I think what it says is clear.
softvoice
#4: Sounds like “oh pretty” to me.
oh-pretty
#5: Someone said “hi there” and then grabbed my heel. You’ll hear it whispered right before I say “whoa!” He startled me. It was dark.

I’m having a little writers’ block the past few weeks, so I’ll supplement blogs with a few EVPs I’ve collected.
These two EVPs are both from Wellington. You can read about Wellington just by searching Wellington in our blog search tab – it’s been peppered throughout my blog since July. I believe I mentioned yesterday that I actually have 78 audio anomalies that I’ve collected during that time. I also have audio anomalies that others have shared with me, but they aren’t my EVPs to share.
The first was captured in late July on the overlook. We were on the overlook setting up a toy train for the child ghost (that is the clicking you hear in the background). We had a video recorder running at the same time, and it doesn’t show up on the video – only on this audio recorder. We had three other audio recorders running at the same time, and it isn’t on any of those, either.
The song you hear has been around since the 1830s. The avalanche at Wellington was in 1910, and the town disappeared off of the map in 1930.
The next audio anomaly was captured in the parking lot. One of the reports at Wellington is the sound of singing in the parking lot.
And finally, a video clip that sounds like a disembodied laugh from when we were with the kids at Wellington in July. You may need headphones to hear the laugh.

I went through my Wellington evidence today. I have 78 audio anomaly files from the time spent up there. I’m not sure what I will do with them yet. I was holding them back to release as an evidence package with the documentary – which is now defunct. Still, I have hope that at some point I will find some way to tell the story of Wellington. I think I will save most of the audio files until I’ve made a decision one way or another.
That being said, this is the clearest – and oddest – audio clip that I personally have come across. There were three of us present – me and two adult males. We were hiking back from the Cascade tunnel, which is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the parking lot. The trail ends at the Cascade tunnel, so there was no one on that end of the trail. As we walked to the parking lot, there were no people on the trail from that direction, either. Which means we were quite likely about 1/4 mile from any people when this was recorded.
My recorder, an Olympus DS-40 was in my front pocket with the microphone peeking out the top. We did not hear any of the weird sounds at the time – and it is unlikely that I wouldn’t have noticed someone speaking directly into my pocket (or an animal whooping into my pocket), since those noises seem to actually be louder than our conversation.
When the people I’ve sent this to have listened to it, they actually have ignored the audio anomaly thinking that it couldn’t possibly be what I am talking about because it is so obvious. It is. Keep in mind – there is one female voice (mine) and two male voices that you will hear. Over the top of it, you will hear oddities that weave their way throughout our conversation. The first is a series of whoops. I have considered that it could be an owl; however, I haven’t found an owl whose call that matches, and again, it was over the top of my voice. We didn’t hear an owl, nor was there one flying near my microphone.
Next, you will hear me say something about “nature”. Right around that time you will hear two clicks and what sounds like someone saying something like “pkew!” To me, it sounds like the noises a kid makes when they are coking and firing an imaginary gun.
Finally, at the end, you will hear a high pitched flat sounding voice do what sounds like a fake laugh.
There are other things underlying our conversation in this as well; however, they are woven so well into our talking and footsteps that I couldn’t really say whether it was anomalous or environmental noise.
I did have a walkie talkie on my belt. It was turned off at the time, because we’d been filming and we didn’t want to interrupt the filming. I also had my cell phone in my back pocket, but I get no cell phone service at Wellington.
I really have no idea about this one – it is just darn strange. I’d be curious to hear theories. Have you heard an owl that sounds like this? Would it be louder than our conversation?
Odd audio anomaly
Ryan liked this one better. It is Regan with some scary voice over the top of her in Area 61, where there is an entity that doesn’t seem to like people very much.

The ever spinning wheel of time and a confluence of events lead me to spend most of Thanksgiving weekend in Louisville Kentucky and I felt that I would be remiss in not making the pilgrimage to Cave Hill National Cemetery, a site that actually rivals Mt Carmel
in geographic size at 296 acres as well as historic points of interest and reported paranormal activity…the unseasonably warm, clear, late November day bathed the dreamlike Cave Hill scenery with a preternatural glow as the first of the stone markers emerged after tree lined driveway beyond the main gate that seemed to almost be a corridor into the past…A seamless balance between natural geographical attributes such as rolling hills, the addition of a lake, imported exotic trees and shrubbery plus some conservative landscaping all have contributed to topographical uniqueness of this site is …it has been a while since the potency of a new location has rendered my equilibrium temporarily compromised but I quickly regained composure …
Interred there are notable figures from founders of the city, mayor past, there are political, military, religious, sports, luminaries from literary and education circles, philanthropists and even a dedicated section named Home Of The Innocents named after an orphanage where one of the founding care givers; Sister Emily Cooper and 77 infants and children that died at the home between 1880 and 1920 were discovered there buried there along side the Sister’s final watch…
Carefully kept records enabled identification of the all but one infant child that is identified solemnly as; “The One Who’s Name Is Known Only To God” …a statue and an inscription bearing the names of the children was donated to the site and dedicated with a ceremony that included an actress and a couple of children playing the parts of Sister Cooper and orphans in her care …She continues to be fiercely protective of those little ones beside her there at Cave Hill and is rumored to continue to watch over those residing in the current location near the Bourbon Stockyards, east of Downtown Louisville in the Butchertown neighborhood today…
The most famous resident is of course Col Harland Sanders and as I considered the comical prospect of his grave resembling a giant KFC bucket, much to my chagrin there was in fact a plastic replica of one serving as a floral vase at the foot of his monument…a bust of the Colonel at the top of the center pillar bore the familiar sly grin that seemed to remind us that he may have taken the original 7 herbs and spices secret to his grave ..there was also a commemorative partially consumed biscuit placed at the base of his marker .. .
There are many statues of the religious effigies in repose dotting the granite and marble gardens and I found my two sets of rechargeable batteries quickly depleted early into the exploration prompting me to make a hasty jaunt to a local convenience store for 2 more sets AAs to complete the photographic aspect of this visit …Cave Hill being a national cemetery, a generous portion of the grounds are dedicated to veterans and the humbling uniform lines of identical white stones resembling rows of upright ivory dominos …One particular photo in this section pointing towards the rapidly setting sun immediately confounded me by the unusual cross shaped light anomaly I noticed in the LED display of the camera after taking the picture (below)….
Another semi celebrity buried there is illusionist Harry Collins (**see below) …
A life sized effigy of him in performance donning a tux and standing along cloth draped table with a hand extended toward an implied audience created a daunting visage as it is a completely onyx colored monument with even blacker seeming intentions …I found the statue and energies in the vicinity of this memorial ominous and rife with a darker and more sinister insinuation of which I would prefer not to elaborate …
The slanted sun of the late afternoon and encroaching dusk instilled a sense of urgency that transcended the desire to photograph as much of Northern Kentucky’s self proclaimed “City Of The Dead” before inevitably getting corralled out the front gates…as some of the nefarious interred at Mt Carmel seemed self indulgent even in death by way of extravagant monuments there seemed to be silent haughtiness emanating from some of the late 1800’s obelisks and monoliths that towered over the more humble, less imposing and acquiescent to the dimensional precedence set before them …often these excursions serve as a stark reminder that worldly wealth cannot circumvent the final unifying inevitability of our earthly return to the soil ..

“At a Louisville Magic Club close-up magic contest he was to judge, he said Those of you that have practiced… well that’ll show. And those of you that didn’t …well that’ll show too. Harry Collins died May 3, 1985. There is a life sized statue of him at his grave site in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. It is rumored that you may faintly hear The Star Spangled Banner at his site on days when there is no wind.”

This evp was recorded aboard the RMS Queen Mary on 9/12/09 in the first class
swimming pool area. I exhale loudly, announce “that’s me” and another voice says
“get out!”. This evp was recorded on the Zoom H2 recorder in 2ch. surround mode.
