After Falwell's death, Christopher Hitchens suggested he be given an enema, enabling him to be buried in a shoebox. That's just mean, but funny. Guess I'm not as superstitious about this as I thought.

See it gets easier!

I've got one…and I do this a lot, cuz I cook a lot. Whenever I add salt to a recipe, or especially if salt is spilled I throw a pinch of salt over my left shoulder. Now, I can't tell you where I picked this superstition up, because it absolutely drives my mother crazy. She can't stand to see me throw salt on the floor! I guess I need to get more proactive and look this stuff up.

My great grandma will literally pull me as hard as she can so that everyone walks on the same side of telephone poles and such. And if she cant get us to we all must say bread and butter. Not sure why but she says its carried with her since she was a child. Also the whole never open an umbrella indoors no matter how hard it is raining. Iv hear the one about the hat on the bed but dont know why. I know Iv done it before….uh oh

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..

Grandma Millie does it. She must have done it to you as well.

my husband taught me this one on our 2nd date. he's 21 yrs older than i am (makes me always look better by comparison /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> ) but he learned it as a kid. and after the first person says 'bread and butter' the other has to say 'salt and pepper' then we'd just keep going to things like 'gin and tonic'…

I have gotten over most of the superstitions, like black cat, I use to have a black cat & he would cross my path all the time, no bad luck. I have broke a few mirrors over my life, no bad luck. I walk under ladders, no bad luck. The only thing that I have never done & will never do is step on a headstone in a cemetary. I don't know why I started doing it but to this day I step over or walk between headstones, I feel that somehow I am disrespecting the dead to step on their headstone.

I feel the same way Duck about headstones.

It's not a superstition, I dont think anything bad will happen if I did,

but it seems amazingly disrespectful to do. I know it would hurt if

I saw someone step on my daughters stone.

When my grandfather died, he was buried with her at his head.

It was a wet and muddy the day of his funeral. When we got

to the grave I could see the tire tracks from when they dug

his grave on Marissa's stone. She had only been gone 3 months,

and it killed me to see that.

I know what you are talking about Heidi, I always go and clean off headstones that haven't been taken care of. I need to go to my great grandfathers headstone and clean it, it has been a few years since I have been. I feel it is my responsibility as I am the only member of my family that lives near the cemetary.

There are so many I've heard, mostly came from "the old country".

Don't sleep with your feet towards the door, spirits will be able to enter your body.

Always leave a building or home by the same door you enter.

I don't know why, but my aunt swore by this.

Never sew on Sunday, the sewing will never be complete and when you die you'll have to pick the stitches out with your nose.

They are very old. Another one is what ever you do on New Years day, you'll do it for the reat of the year everyday.

My mom will call me ask what I'm doing like clock work. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Every year I answer well mom I got up, guess I'm doomed. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Be very careful on New Years, Duckie. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

So since I will be doing laundry, does that mean I have to for the rest of the year. Oh, no the horror.

Annie, Monk made me feel sane /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I have so many OCD rituals, but really the only people that notice

them are people that live with me because they see them so often.

I have little rituals i do at work that no one has noticed, or at least

let me know they've noticed haha. little things like tapping the water

cooler two times before filling my bottle.

most of my ocd rituals are now confined to my head: ie i have 'safe' words that i think, stuff like that. i try to not go to restaurants with tablecloths, tho, because if one is crooked i cannot enjoy my meal. and crooked pictures drive me nutz. anything that's 'not as it should be' (in my mind at least /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> ) is trouble for me.

and yeah…MONK made me feel boring and normal. but i defy anyone to not love that charactor, for all his twitches and touching things etc.
