Can't understand why a text of dubious authorship, and scholarship advances a coherent argument anyway.

At some point in their life, nearly everyone takes something on faith.

Faith

Without evidence? If so, don't find that enobling in any sense, my take.

I do not find belief without evidence particularly moral in any sense. And many here in the U.S. agree with me more and more. A trend I find gratfying. Sway me, beguile me, convince me with an argument that is cogent, with supporting data that can be measured, quantified, tested and measured within protocol and controls, I might be swayed. Do it not, the metaphysical, an idea, I merely shrug.

But who defines what a "cogent argument" is?

Our individual faith does not have to be proven to others via an argument … at least that's my take.

I daresay I have not, anything of import at least. As I remember . . .

I don't know that belief without evidence is a moral stance. It is a statement of faith.

I have to tell you this. Events have transpired recently that have moved me back towards faith. Maybe not faith in the God of Christianity, but definitely faith in the underlying intelligence of the universe, the existence of our soul and faith in my life having a purpose and meaning beyond just being human.

In part, your arguments against faith have helped me to realize this, Dawkins, so I thank you for that.

Things can be quantified you understand of course. If not, I still shrug. My take.

I would imagine that you take on faith that Mrs. Dawkins loves you. How can you know she does? How can you prove it. It seems that is important.

Some things can't be quantified at this time. Doesn't mean they don't exist.

We give our own purpose, because we understand our fellowship. I am kin to you as you are to me. This is undeniable given our genome. "Hey Whammies. what do you need?" That I must give it, I must try, and if I do not I might be a sociopath.

Maybe we are not so far apart then. This is the center of my faith – the fact that I am here to meet a need in others and, in my own unique way, give them what it is they need from me. This has always been something I've wanted, but haven't always easily found out how I was to accomplish it. As my faith has evolved recently, it is coming to me – why I am here and what I am here to do. I like knowing.

My kinship to you is a evolutionary process that links us in a way that is no less noble than a faith-based process.

I know this because of provisional data that is suggestive. I am open to data that suggests the opposite, though I am loathe to examine it. This is life.

I don't disagree. Frankly I'm a big fan of whatever works for you.

What works for me, doesn't for many who would advance a dogma that insists I ascribe to it as well. A very large percentage of our populace believe that Jesus is going to return, work his magic, and ascend his faithful unto heaven, leaving the rest of us to war over the dregs. That these people are elected to office, and can legislate disturbs me. Horrifies me in fact.

I agree in the belief in evolution, but disagree that it must disprove creationism, though both sides of the fence may disagree with my statement. I believe the more enlightened and open-minded are starting to see that there could be validity in both and one not being a polar opposite (in proof and practice) of the other.
