Hey all /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I have noticed quite a few topics locked lately and I would think that we are all here to learn and share our viewpoints which I love reading. It disappointed me to see the locks and I would like to suggest that if you think that what you have to say when responding to a specific post might get the thread locked it would be a good thing to take the argument or whatever, to the PM's so others can enjoy the threads without all the drama. Thank you /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I might be lying, but I'm telling the truth

Thank you Movieman for your post and the Admins on PUG agree.

We don't want to lock threads, but if our forum rules aren't followed, threads will be closed.

All we ask is that members don't make things personal with other members. I don't think that's too much to ask.

We encourage an exchange of thoughts and ideas here on PUG. So let's keep the respectful discussion going and we can continue to have some wonderful discussions surrounding the paranormal and paranormal investigation!

Yup, I agree, then I just leave for awhile.

I don't come here for crap, have real life crap, if you know what I mean. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

It seems when things nead to get locked then the posting slow downs.

What will I read? /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> I want more paranormal.

I feel better now, thanks. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I'm buying PUG a water filter, I think somethings in the water. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Off to the cantina!

It is sad when threads get locked – usually they are the ones with the great topics! /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Don't drink the water, symp! I'll see if I can remember how to get us a Margarita over at the cantina!

I agree with MM…it is a shame when people can't exchange ideas without calling names. Lets all keep this a place that remains open to a variety of viewpoints, and try to do so respectfully.

What the heck – I'll weigh in. I absolutely despise being forced to moderate threads, warn members, delete posts and lock topics. I am always surprised when grown-ups result to playground bullying. I love lively discussion. I love debate. I can passionately disagree with someone and never need to call them names or attack them as individuals – ever. I have enough respect for the members of Paranormal Underground to believe that you absolutely can have conversations and debates where you attack the issues, not one another. Most of you do, and for that I thank you. Please continue to lead by your example and don't get fished in by those who don't.

Also – there has been some implication made that the admins treat their friends differently. This definitely isn't the case – since we consider all of you friends. If someone who is a particular friend of one of the admins is out of line, they will be dealt with in the same ways as everyone else. Heck – I've had to warn my own husband AND delete some of his posts. We aim to be fair and consistent in our enforcement of the forum rules. Quite often, this enforcement takes place behind the scenes. We don't typically issue a public warning. So you may not see us dealing with issues, but we are – even if those people are friends.

I'd also like to remind everyone that this is a privately owned bulletin board. We won't censor opinions, even though we could if we so chose. That isn't our goal. What we will censor, however, are personal attacks and name calling. If that feels like censorship, so be it. If a post that contains those things gets deleted, you are more than welcome to repost your opinion minus the personal attacks and name calling. We've given several posters that option when a post has been deleted.

this forum feels, IMHO, like it has the right amount of policing…it is only used when necessary. i know i am still a relative newbie, but i feel safer posting here because of this. i know when i am getting beyond calm thinking/typing and try to pay heed and bow out for a bit.

in the end, it is my responsibility to be an adult (or as close as i can come to being one, at least). /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I agree Annie, I've always felt safe here. The Admins do a great job of treating everyone equally.

There are no "privileged few" who can do or say anything they want and never get in trouble like

at other forums i've belonged to.

I'm sorry to say this but I feel there are some very thin skins on this board. I'm not talking about reactions to ad-hom attacks but blunt critique. When I refer to Abrahamic religions as Bronze-age fairy tales, I'm not trying to be provocative, this is really really how I view them. I participate on other boards on the subjects of science and skepticism where things are very different and I have to concentrate on dialing back when I come here.

Just offering a different POV.

/dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Hmm. It bothers me that someone would play this card; really. Accountability is a serious issue in life and on forums. Instead of trying to point fingers back at the admin who are doing what they feel is best for the forum and its threads, accept your mistake, learn and move on.

I've been out of line, I've been reprimanded privately. It's not up to the admin to air every rap on the knuckles with a ruler they have to do. I agree with everything that has been said here. The end is accept the reprimand, admit accountabilty and act like an adult.

Accepting criticism

When someone criticises you first listen – don't interrupt and start giving excuses.

If there's any validity in the criticism – agree, apologise and see what you can change to address it.

If the criticism is wrong or unfair say, 'That's an interesting point of view, however, I don't agree with you.'

This may very well be one of my "problems" as well. Dialing back my personality has always been somewhat of an issue for me, I very rarely feel the need to do so. At another place that I post at things are very different, not better or worse mind you, just different.

While I agree that saying "That's an interesting point of view, however, I don't agree with you," is a very good way to handle things, the problem arises when you are asked "Why don't you agree with me?" It's the explanation that people mistake for disrespect or an attack.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

So the answer to this would be opinions are like a@@ holes you have yours and I have mine. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Like last night someone asked a question, and just got attacked. It's lame, and infantile, sort of like of set up.

I have to sit on my hands, so I don't bite, even when I know better, so I log out.

Even questions sometimes here are taboo. Hard to converse, without them sometimes.

I leave because I can be too out spoken and could turn into what I despise. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

You see, I understand that I'm an a$$hat, but I do not always want to project this persona. Problem is how to turn that off.

symp…for me the best way of handling the situation you described is to let them rule the playground which will soon be empty except for themselves. i hope that makes sense. i know what you're referring to and i got PO'd myself.

i didn't understand the attitude and thot it unwarranted from the beginning. so i went to play elsewhere.

Dawk, you're not, it takes time to get to know you, or anyone.
