I love urban legends. I believe that they say a lot about us as a culture. With the explosion of the Internet, Urban Legends have new life – and spread like wildfire. Maybe we should make one up and see if we can get it to go viral. /ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> We can see how long it would take. Anyone up for it?

Was this a serious thought to try and get one started? If so I think it lost it's momentum with the pig story. Maybe you should try again. LOL

I recently contacted an old work buddy of mine who moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and it seems they've been having a big problem there with local youths getting bored and going Cow Tipping, which according to my friend is causing some cows to break their legs. Thus they have to be put down before they are matured and causing the local dairy farmers to loose money. Now that isn't the scary part. It seems some of the local dairy farmers have resorted to positioning fake cows in the fields with a couple of sticks of dynamite in them hooked up to a blasting cap and when the fake cow is tipped the blasting cap is set off and the fake cow blows injuring the youths. It seems that several youths have been injured this way. But none of the local dairy farmers have been charged because of an 19th century Agricultural Law that allows Farmer's or Ranchers to protect their livestock with weapons including, rifles, pistols and TNT in order to drive off rustlers. Apparently these cow tippers fall under the definition of rustlers. So cow tippers in Michigan should beware when they go cow tipping… the cow just might blow up!

I'm not always right but I'm never wrong.

The above are my opinions.

I don't understand the cow tipping myth. Not saying it's not happening to your friend. I've been around horses and cows my whole life. Cows can't sleep standing up, and they can weigh close to 2,000 pounds. They are very aware of their surroundings and will normally get up when approached. I've seen four large big men try to get a cow down to assist with a breech birth, it didn't happen with out the cow being drugged. A lot of people I know in cow/horse farming believe this is a myth. It's been rumored people try to do it with horses.

In Pa people can protect their large animals any way they see fit on their property. It's trespassing. My neighbor had their guns out the other night cause someone was in with our horses. They were running in the fields all out and could injure themselves. I've seen horses put down because of this, and caused by an intruder. People say people get drunk and go cow tipping, I think it would make all the harder. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

… the only thing with cows we did growing up was blow up a statue every year for halloween!! It sits out from the Smith Bros Dairy farm..

They get smart and raised the cow, so it now sits about 3 stories up.

I think NYPD retired just started an urban legend. Judging by the first two

responses to it I'd say he has a winner on his hands. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Well this is the Urban Legend thread and I believe the OP said lets try to start a new Urban Legend. So I'll leave it up to you, the readers, to determine if my posting is true or not. <evil laugh>

It would be sad if that is true. There is also a law in all 50 states if I don't miss my guess that it falls under. It would be considered under the booby trap law. Booby traps are prohibited everywhere that I know and since the kids were tipping first and booby trapped later then would also be considered as an enticement which is even worse. Those farmers are facing hard time and murder charges if a kid gets killed. A good lawyer for the kids will ruin those farmers. Here is a short definition…

BOOBY TRAP: a device set up to be triggered to harm or kill anyone entering the trap, such as a shotgun which will go off if a room is entered, or dynamite which will explode if the ignition key on an auto is turned. If a person sets up such a trap to protect his/her property, he/she will be liable for any injury or death even to an unwanted intruder such as a burglar. Setting a booby trap to even protect one's property is a crime.

That full moon is tricky … very tricky … /dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I have a hard time falling asleep when there is a full moon. Last nite was an example. I feel like a zombie today.

Tonite is the official full moon i think, so i really should feel good..ug !!!

I've read several times that the full moon technically has no effect on anyone and that it's more of a placebo effect. Example- When something weird happens, you seek out a reason. Someone says "Well there was a full moon" and then people assume the full moon did it, despite that every day of the year weird things happen.

While I can see how that makes sense, I still think the full moon does something to people. I always feel weird(or weirder lol) around full moons and have crazy crazy dreams.

We know the moon has a physical effect on the tides. Why not on people? I guess it depends on who you listen to.

Good article and so true.

GhostBreaker, any news on the Hurley Pond interview? Weren't you supposed to have an interview a few months back?

Curious about that, as I also live very close to the house…
