I love urban legends. I believe that they say a lot about us as a culture. With the explosion of the Internet, Urban Legends have new life – and spread like wildfire. Maybe we should make one up and see if we can get it to go viral. /ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> We can see how long it would take. Anyone up for it?

Sure sounds fun. Let's see what we can start. Umm…

How about something like you shouldn't charge batteries during the full moon since the magnetic pull is stronger and it can cause the chemicals in batteries to swell and explode?

Actually, that's true. I was recharging batteries on April 9 and the battery cannisters not only corroded, but the stack of audio tapes i had next to the unit were wiped blank! I wasn't sure what i'd done wrong, but I looked at the calendar and noticed that it was a full moon. So be careful on May 9th which I believe is the next one!

It's sad that some people actually fall for those email scams. /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

It is because they want to believe that something like that could really happen to them.

I think I know who's perpetrating them all now tho. Waiting for Dawkins to pull up in his Rolls Royce and drive us to his castle…

oh whams your evil.. wanting to spread lies for you own curiosity. I'm in…..

Police are advising young women not to help Lost children. Over the past month three women have been raped and murdered all because they tried to help a lost child. surveillance tapes show a little person impersonating a lost little boy crying into his hands apparently alone in a parking garage, when someone kneels down to help and comfort the scared "child" his accomplice jumps out of a van and pulls the woman inside. her body is later discovered in a near by river/creek/woods/dump.

hows that?? believable?

2012? Seriously? I survived Y2K, 9/11, 6/6/6, 9/9/9, H1N1, & Swine Flu. BRING IT ON!!!

I didn't. But I thought it was a good story.

Hopefully a good story doesn't equal validity.

Nope – but that's kind of what happens with Urban Legends. The story takes on a life of its own and people want to believe. It's why I love urban legends.
