This is a subject that has fascinated me for years. I watched a documentary last summer in which they visited a Wiltshire villiage located in the heart of crop circle country. A pub on the villiage high street was holding a meeting for crop circle investigators/enthusiasts, where they discussed there thories on crop circle formation. At the same time in the pub opposite a meeting of crop circle creators was being held. I found this quite amusing, however there was a lot of animosity between the two groups. The first recorded circle was found in the 1600s and the farmer whose land it was on claimed to have seen lights in the field on the night of the circles creation. He attributed it to being the work of the devil, I think this would have been a rather risky way of thinking back then and im sure a farmer would not have wanted to waste his crops for the purpose of a hoax so this makes me wander if it is something supernatural. Ive always wanted to try and replicate one myself to see how difficult and feasable it would be to create a convincing one and to see what the reaction to it would be. (maybe next summer! /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> )

i think that your most difficult thing with doing it yourself would be finding a farmer willing to let you tramp his wheat down! LOL!!

I've noticed that as well. The ones they do to "reveal the hoax" are simplistic, and STILL take them almost a full night to complete. And if they were actually trying to do it in such a way that they wouldn't be caught at it, I believe that even the simple ones would be darn near impossible to complete.

Yeah...I have to agree on that one. Sure, some of them could easily be hoaxed. People have been copying nature for thousands of years, so why not that too?

I agree that the very intricacy of some of them doesn't lend itself easily to hoaxes.

But all those intricate designs, no way. Made by hoaxers of the human kind, no other explanation makes sense.

Yup. Teens. You are welcome to mine if you feel the need..at 17, she's just enough to make ME want to run in circles in a field!!

As far as the people doing crop circles, it's cool, but there are some out there that were so amazingly complex that I would find it hard to believe anyone could have done them in one night, or with less than 50 or so people... someday we may know, but not today. I'm looking forward to reading the article!
