This morning I was awake, but not yet out of bed, when I distinctly heard a man whisper "hey!" right next to my bed. Nothing to see, but I definitely heard it. Hope it's not going to be the start of another active period in my house.

Unless my cats have suddenly started speaking, I'm left with only the paranormal...
The good news it's been quiet since then, but my husband has been home. I'm worried stuff will start up again when he leaves, though.
The question remains: where do they go when they are not here???

About 4 years ago before I awoke, there was the loud laughter of a woman in my bedroom. It lasted a few seconds. The duration of the laughter would be like hearing an alarm clock or clock radio. You hear it while sleeping and you continue to hear it after you awake to shut off the alarm. That was how I would describe the laughter of the spirit's laughter. It began while I was sleeping and it lasted until I awoke and sat up in bed. It was daylight already.

What I saw was an entity that took on the form of my mom but I didn't see her face. She was solid as any normal human being would be. I have never seen a transparent entity. Maybe in the dark previous entities were transparent but even those looked solid to me. That house had paranormal happenings as did my childhood home. Only my mom and myself could see, hear and feel the entities. I don't believe my dad ever saw anything or my sisters and brothers. One exception was my one brother who saw the back of one entity sitting on our bed back around 1954 or so. My recollection of that event will follow soon.

When I got back into my vehicle, the scent of burning firewood was gone. I drove my vehicle back to the house to do a search under the hood. I found nothing under the hood that could have caused the intense scent of burning firewood. In fact my engine never got warm or hot enough to cause anything (all clean, no debris) near the exhaust manifold to have caused the scent. That is the first time that I have ever smelled the scent of firewood that I could not explain the origin of. The scientist in me tries to debunk any activity that I feel is paranormal in nature.
I have smelled various scents, smells and odors in my home. Some I could track down and dismiss as not paranormal in nature. Some I could not. The scents or odors that I could find the source of would be constantly in the air. The scents or odors that I could not explain were in a small area. For example I could be walking in my house and walk into a volume of air that contained the scent or odor and soon the scent or odor vanished.

Thank you for sharing NIghwatcher! I think the more we all share, the more we learn.
I don't see any reason why we need to attack each other over a personal experience. It's one thing to discuss and another to attack. We discuss here!

My oldest brother who slept in the twin bed wore light or white colored pajamas. I awoke to see my brother getting up during the night or I should say I thought it was my brother. This entity who wore pajamas similar to my oldest brother came towards my bed. I believe that I was sitting up in bed at the time and I quickly lay back down. What I saw coming had a black head and black hands. I don't recall seeing fingers on the hands. I don't recall any facial features like eyes or mouth, just a black head. I happened to open my eyes and see this entity sitting on the edge of my bed with its back to me. It is just sitting there for what may be one minute. Then my oldest brother in the twin bed begins to move about as if to turn over in bed. The entity gets up and then sits down on the edge of my oldest brother's twin bed. It is facing my bed. Later my brother next to me begins to toss and turn and the entity again comes across the room and sits down on the edge of my bed, its back to me as before.
I wasn't terrified of this entity but I was getting scared. I did have my brother next to me for security and comfort. This entity moved back and forth between the beds about 3 times. The last time that it sat down on my bed, it turned its body and head and appeared to be staring at me but I didn't notice any eyes. I then woke up my brother. My brother woke up and he appeared to look at the entity for a few seconds until he turned on the light at the side of our bed. The entity was gone.
I was having lunch with my brother recently and I happened to mention the paranormal activity that is going on in my house. My oldest brother is now deceased but he never saw any paranormal activity anywhere. My mom, now deceased, and myself were the ones that had the misfortune of experiencing the paranormal events in the family. During lunch, I asked my brother if he ever saw any spirits or paranormal entities or events. He said that he "thought" he saw someone sitting on the edge of our bed while when we lived in that rental house back around 1954. Strange that he remembers that event of someone sitting on the edge of our bed because I didn't mention it during lunch. It could have been another time but I believe that he saw it when I woke him up that night back around 1954. That's the only time my brother ever "thought" he saw something strange in that rental house.
We moved to that rental house in 1950 and my mom later mentioned to me that one of the neighbors mentioned that a man hung himself in that home. That rental home was the only place that I ever saw "black" entities. My son saw black entities in my present home. My son believes in the spirits and paranormal entities.

Do you think the things you refer to as "black entities" are the same thing some people call "shadow people"?

No, the black entities were different. Once there were three at once. I will comment on the black entities later. I think at times that I see "shadow people" in my peripheral vision, especially in the evening but dismiss them as my eyes playing tricks on me. I have never heard of "shadow people" until you mentioned it. I will have to read up on them as time permits. I am not sure what type of black entities my son experienced but he did a lot of reading up on "Sleep paralysis" a few years ago. I am not sure if the black entities that he saw and the sleep paralysis are related. He doesn't like to talk about the paranormal if other people are around to hear. Sometimes when he and I are alone, I will ask him. He is married now and lives quite a distance away from me. I don't recall if I ever experienced sleep paralysis.

Lots of people find it to be a very frightening experience because they sense that there is something evil near them that they can't turn their heads and see or that something is holding them down. My mother had that experience once and she said it was absolutely terrifying.

I also have night terrors brought about by sleep apnea. I fall asleep, have a bad dream, awaken due to I stop breathing, see what was troubling me in my dream before me, and react. Since my body is usually not paralyzed this can be a very adverse reaction. Light helps dispell the terrors and I have trained myself to go for a light source when I finally realize what is going on.
Other things I have done while asleep: woke up trying to shake the devil out of my ex-wife (she claimed I was trying to kill her. I swear I was not.), scream and yell, and drive, yes drive, and I thought I was a superhero while I was doing it. Luckily I saw no criminals, who knows what would have happened.
A lot of the above is brought about by stress and lack of sleep. Things that I have been suffering from a lot lately. I tell Cherylo to go for the light switch, though I doubt that is much comfort when it is happening. Oh well, such is life. We must deal with the cards we are dealt. Wish it was different though.

As a kid, I didn't have much in the way of toys so I had to improvise. I had some heavy string, thicker than kite string. Maybe it was more like cord that was used to wrap around packages. Anyway, I was using this cord to "draw" pictures on the living room carpet. It was in the evening and I was alone in the living room playing with my string. I believe that my mom was in the kitchen probably doing dishes and I don't remember where my older and younger siblings were at the time. It was so long ago but there are some things that you never forget. The last picture that I drew with the string was of a man laying on the floor. It resembled those chalk line drawings that you see on television when police draw a chalk line around a body at a crime scene. I think that I might have made several drawings of a man laying on the carpet with that string. A few moments later something turned off the light switch on the wall light. We had no ceiling light in the living room, only a floor lamp, a table lamp and that wall light. The switch was on the light so it was either on or off. The light didn't burn out, something turned the light off. There was no way that the light could have shut itself off. When that light went off, I ran like the dickens. My mom came into the living room and turned the light back on but I was too afraid to play with that string again. A lot of scary and spooky things happened in that rental house. I recall my mom telling me that the neighbors said a man hung himself in that house before we moved in. We moved into that house about 1950 and moved out in 1960.
