From Wiki- The Crying Boy is a mass-produced print of a painting by Italian painter Bruno Amadio, also known as Bragolin. It was widely distributed from the 1950s on. There are numerous alternate versions, all portraits of tearful young boys or girls.

On September 4, 1985, the British tabloid newspaper The Sun reported that a firefighter from Yorkshire was claiming that undamaged copies of the painting were frequently found amidst the ruins of burned houses. He stated that no firefighter would allow a copy of the painting into his own house. Over the next few months, The Sun and other tabloids ran several articles on house fires suffered by people who had owned the painting.
By the end of November, belief in the painting's curse was widespread enough that The Sun was organising mass bonfires of the paintings, sent in by readers.

Source A- From around 1985 onwards, a series of mysterious house fires were brought to the attention of the general public, following the discovery that in each case, the buildings and all their contents were completely destroyed apart from a painting - the "Crying Boy", which remained unscathed. In the years that followed, some 40-50 cases were recorded in which a housefire had destroyed everything except for the picture. It became known as the "Curse of the Crying Boy", and even made headline news at one point.

The picture itself was a portrait painted by a Spanish artist of an orphan. It is said that his studio burnt to the ground, and the boy was later killed in a car crash. The picture is one of the first to be mass produced in the UK, there are several thousand of them in circulation, but the curse still appears to apply to all the copies. It is said that the curse will only effect someone if the owner of the painting becomes aware of it.<--- (convenient no?) Some psychics have claimed that the painting is Haunted by the spirit of the boy it depicts.

True or false this Painting is F*cking CREEPY

Considering the reputation of The Sun, I would suspect anything they publish.

I suspect that the topless photos of Samantha Fox they would feature were very, very real, unlike the rest of that rag sheet.

Soooo...the painting was the ONLY thing in the structure that wouldn't burn and they held bonfires to rid themselves of the curse? Wouldn't it have been better to say...take them out to sea and sink them...or bury them...or...

I believe in reading about this before, that the boy portrayed in the pictures actually didn't die, at least he lead a normal life supposedly and that the studio didn't burn down. And of course the question begs that if people sent in the pictures, then their houses never burned down after they became aware of them. And with all of those cursed paintings that The Sun had for a time before doing a bonfire for all of them put The Sun's office in jeopardy. Surely with all of those cursed objects in one place and with so many of the "owners" aware inside of their office, then you'd think the office would have been toast.

I call hoax. The paintings were apparently very popular for a time in England and many different artists painted many different ones and was probably an easy hoax to get people scared about.

I have to wonder why people would want to own such an unattractive painting. I wouldn't want that depressing looking thing in my house.

And you could have it all, my empire of dirt

Sorry to bring such an old topic back. Where i live (Chile) there is a legend about a very similar painting, probably from the same author, it also seemed to cause fires in houses but the theories went more like the kid had been sacrificed or something like that and some "analysis" showed some sort of monster eating the boy when you turned the painting as you can see here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1KTYEB10gAw/SgYM...0147746fyc8.jpg

In my opinion its something more like "you see what you want to see" but i still wouldn`t want any of those in my house :(

Kind of looks more like a yawning fish than a monster to me. I would not have a picture of a crying boy in my house either, bad juju

I agree. Bad juju.

Plus, it's just a hideous painting. Who would want a copy of this thing, even if it didn't have the potential to cause your house to burn down???
