There is a school of thought out there that thoughts become things – that we create our reality in this lifetime by what we believe, think and say. I'm curious about what others think about this.

I will say this – about 10 years ago, my life was in a real slump. I was miserably unhappy – mostly due to choices I'd made that led me to where I was. One day I sat down and wrote out the life that I wanted. I then wrote affirmations daily about that life and spent time each day visualizing my "new" life. I came across those affirmations a few years ago, and it is my life now. To the smallest detail.

I always thought that probably my thoughts led to action, which led me to here – I had a goal, I followed a plan and I unconsciously worked to make my vision that I had implanted so deeply in my mind a reality.

What do you think? Is there something mystical about this, or is it the power of the mind?

What you are talking about has been my whole life. Something I had to learn, in a hurry. I was 13 years of age when my father walked out on my mother. And, he left me holding the bag to this day. He's gone now and my mother is 86. So, my life was turned upside down, we were on welfare. I could have blame him if things never worked out in my life. But, instead I choose to "reinvent" myself. Not being a daughter to someone. But, my own person, with my own mind. Others try to tell me to go in all different directions. They wanted me to go to work. Instead of going to college. I choose my own direction. That's around the same time when I got involved in religion. I never really believed in anything either. I never went to church. But, I prayed for strength during that time. And, certain people came into my life. I was meant to meet. It was a strange time for me. And, I also believe in "feelings". Like "seeing" yourself living the life you want to lead. I believe in this theory. It worked for me. So, I understand completely what your talking about. Your not alone.

I do think that thoughts are things, meaning that if we visualize it, it is more likely to happen. If you have darkness in your heart, that is what you will attract. I believe that what we put out into

the universe we also get back. I also feel that you really have to believe this in your soul, not just to wish it to happen. I know that bad things happen to good ppl but I feel that's where karma comes in.

Not from something you've done in this life but perhaps another life.

Since it took years to come into being, as opposed to say "waking up hungover in a Vegas hotel room, suddenly married to Zach Bagans, and holding a winning lottery ticket", the easy choice would be to say it's the power of mental focus. But then again, isn't the ability to change your life just by focusing on it kind of mystical in and of itself?

I fart, therefore I art.

I firmly believe that thoughts do become things; it's also a Buddhist teaching. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought"… Goes along the lines of the Karma thread.

Only action matters, and action begins with thought.
