They are souls who have chosen after a number of incarnations to remain in spirit in order to assist a person in the physical realm. This may be someone who they were devoted to in a previous life. They may stay with you through you entire life time or for a short period. Each guide enters your life for a specific purpose to assist in a specific lesson. We usually enter an agreement with at least one main guide before we enter our physical bodies. You may have previously been the guide for you spirit guide when they were in the physical realm. They are souls who are at a similar stage in their spiritual evolution.

Everyone has at least one primary spirit guide who will remain with you for an entire life time. Others may come and go when their specific purpose is complete. You can call on others as you feel you need them. You may have a deceased loved one acting as a guide. They may have their own learning to complete in spirit and therefore may feel removed from you at times. This is just a time when they are out exploring other dimensions. They will still hear you if you call them.

Finding your spirit guide can have many benefits as they are here for you and your development. Their purposes include:

(1) Their primary purpose is one of guiding and teaching;

(2) A spirit guide can often see a picture bigger than ourselves therefore their guidance is extremely valuable;

(3) They are here to assist us with the issues that we have set up for ourselves in this life time;

(4) They can help you heal and awaken to your full potential;

(5) They can help you find your sense of purpose.

Spirit guides come to us when we are most receptive or willing to receive their help. They are gentle and give only the information we are ready for. Whenever we have a “gut feeling” about something, it is our spirit guide gently guiding us in the right direction.

Spirit guides are not angels. Angels have never held mortal form.

What are your thoughts on spirit guides?

This is a great subject for my mother. She believes in them. But, as a teen when she use to have these big long discussions. I didn't understand what she was talking about? Me, I'm not to sure? She said you have a spirit guide at the time of your birth. And, their always around you. But, then I watched Most Haunted with Derek Acorah with his spirit guide, Sam. That seemed to ruin it for me.

That is one man who used his knowledge of this to try to reinforce and prove his credibility. Please don't let this one unscrupulous person taint your opinion on this or your search for the truth.

I just finished co-writing a book with a friend who believes that she has had many face-to-face conversations with her spirit guide during hypnotherapy sessions.

I like the idea that I am being guided. Sometimes I think maybe I am. Other times I feel completely alone and lost. I suppose this makes me no different than anyone else.

You are never completely alone. Despite what you may feel. There is always someone right beside you – to guide you and love you unconditionally.

I'm pretty sure my guides need sledgehammers to get my attention most of the time.

ROFLMAO!!!!

Well, I find when I'm not "listening" or ignoring my "gut" feeling, I end up with bruises on my arms and legs. This has been going on for years, with no discernible cause. Years ago, when I was still in my teens, a very gifted lady told me that my main spirit guide was a very old soul who carried a staff. Well, I must be giving the guy fits. He is very handy with that staff.

(MK, Sithy…We discussed this on chat a while back and I told you I would tell you the whole story sometime. Here it is…)

I met a man years ago who was the 7th son of a 7th son. I don't know for sure, but some people say this holds much mytical power and that these men are very special. One thing I do know is that Casey was a very special person. I believe, one of the people I was intended to meet at that point in my life. (I guess that means I believe in predestination)

My 20's were a pretty rocky decade. I was anxious, nervous, insecure, a bit anorexic probably. I suffered from gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, bit my nails. I covered it all up with big 80's "mall" hair and a lot of Merle Norman makeup. And I drank a lot! At one of the bars I frequented I met the most gentle soul I had ever met. He was a mountain man. He told me about the way he grew up and of his beliefs. And about his spirit guide, and mine. He told me many things that he had NO way of knowing.

One night I had a horrible dream. The only thing I remember about it is that something HORRIBLE was chasing me. The foremost thing in my head was me screaming out "Casey! I need you!" At that time a blanket of serenity folded over me and I settled down and slept the rest of the night and most of the next day uninterrupted. (you fellow insomniacs know how rare that is)

The next night I saw Casey. We talked for a few minutes and he looked at me like he expected something from me. After a while he asked me "When are you going to tell me about your dream?" Well, when I could pick my jaw up off the floor I told him about my dream and the feeling of calm I experienced. He told me that he sent his spirit guide to watch over me.

I don't know if I believe in spirit guides…but I am glad Casey did!

Oh, a Spirit guide thread. I need a map. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I have a spirit guide! Maybe thsa's why I find bruises on me and I don't remember how I got them.

My spirit guide needs to try harder.

I do get gut feelings a bit. Maybe, I'm just not intune.

I don't believe your spirit guide needs to try harder. You need to be open and receptive to what they are trying to tell you.

Spirit guides come to us when we are most receptive or willing to receive their help. They are gentle and give only the information we are ready for. Whenever we have a “gut feeling” about something, it is our spirit guide gently guiding us in the right direction. Listen to that gut feeling and follow through on it.

My daughter had a car accident back in November. Thanksgiving. My other daughter and I heard her scream in the Kitchen.

I checked the garage and she was gone. I sent her out for rolls.

Then I realized something was wrong. I went to look. We found her and she had to be air lifted to the hospital.

She was in a comma for several days.

I thought maybe it was her angel calling me, or some kind of mother daughter bond.

Do you consider this my spirit guide?

Honestly, nothing other than this has happened to me. I am always fasinacted why some people have experiences and others don't.

I do have gut feelings, like I said. So, spirit guides are not angels.

Are you gifted? Were you born knowing these feelings, if you don't mind me asking.

Because I'm skeptical would that be a problem when I get these gut feelings? I'm not skeptical about my gut feelings, just maybe not open, not sure.

I try to remain open, and view things openly. Honestly I would love to have an experience.

I get feelings about starangers, I pass.

I was just joking about my spirit guide trying harder.

I've always believed without question that if something happened to Tanner, I would know the second it happens. I have nothing on which to base that belief. I just feel that there is a strong connection there.

My friend Lisa is a hypnotherapist. She specializes in past life regression and also life between lives regression. She is extremely connected to her guide, who originally came through during her very first regression therapy that she had. She has some amazing stories to tell. I co-wrote a book with her that is coming out soon about her experiences, and at some point soon we are going to have a feature article and podcast with her. She says that my guides are working with hers. I don't know that I've ever met anyone with as much faith in things as she has.

Hi Sympathy,

No, I'm not any more gifted than anyone else. This is just one of many spiritual aspects that I have been interested in since I was a child. I have been mentored by several very gifted people throughout the years and this was one subject they all agreed on, independent of each other.

Being a skeptic is a normal and healthy. Of course, we have free will and must use our judgment when we get these gut feelings. Recently, I have had a "gut feeling" to slap the idiot I work with. But, I certainly would never lay my hands on anyone, unless in fear for my life or a loved one's life.

Just try to be more aware and open.

Meditation is an excellent way to contact our spirit guides. Meditation takes time and practice. I have also known some people who, just before going to sleep, have asked their spirit guides to visit them in their dreams.

The book NoWhammies has co-authored and the future podcast on this subject sounds fascinating. I'm looking forward to them both.

MK, that was one lost winter of my life when I hung out in Gatlinburg. After some ill planned events happened I burned every bridge between Sevier County and Blount County. I hadn't thought of Casey in years until the subject of special people came up one night on chat. I don't even know if he is still alive. I will say though, that when I remember that night and talk or type about it…I get goosebumps.

Someone already beat me to it but mediation is a great way to get in touch with your spirit guides. We all have them, it's just trying to get in tune with them. I don't know what your religion is,

or if you follow one but that is one way to try to get in tune with them. Try to just clear your mind for a short time every day & maybe that will help. The spirit guides are just there to help if we

just let them.
