Is there something that makes you believe or not believe in God? On what do you base those beliefs?

Here is some of my evidence for:

The Fibonacci sequence – There is such perfection in this. Mathematics that recur in nature. Certainly this is the result of underlying intelligence of some kind.

The complexity of biology – Again, it seems that there is such intelligence in how complex the biological structures of our world are. Just a slight alteration and we would still be blobs of protozoa. Ironically, I think that evolution proves intelligent design. Go figure.

Here are some of the things that pull me away:

Evil – and I'm not talking demonic evil here. I'm talking about how evil man is to man, and how quick man is to perform atrocities in the name of God.

When I'm more awake, I may come up with some more….how about you? Why do you believe or disbelieve what you do?

Oh, my! Now, this is a huge undertaking. I personally, have not seen proof. I know some people would bring up examples. But, I'm not touching that with a 10-yard pole. Lol!

But, I go with my own "feelings". Of, the general world around me. My own thoughts. And, trying to understand the next person, their ideas, and thoughts. Just opening the door wide open. You sometimes get your answer.

yeah – I think one of my downfalls as a human being is my need to prove everything instead of just opening up to experience. I struggle with it.

Yeah, why do we need to prove God?

To me, God is inside each and every one of us.

I hope I believe this. I tell myself I believe this, but I'm not very good at faith. I'm trying to get better.

I would say that's the point. But, we all seem to want to understand the "why" of things all the time.

Yep – I am certainly guilty of this. I have a hunch I was the three year old who asked "why" all of the time. I'd like to take things on faith, and there is a part of me that does. But there is another part where my brain intervenes. It's like I have this dichotomy in myself – where part of me is all brain, part of me is all spirit, and the two don't get along.

The two will never get along. One will be the death of the other and I'm guessing you know which one I'm rooting for.

Very soon. It has been said that we might understand what happened before the Big Bang.

And after that the theory of TOE, the Theory of Everything. We will look at each other and shrug. It's going to happen, have no doubt.

Yes, I do believe in God. Namely b/c why else would we be here? I just can't believe it is all random. Scientists will argue but that is my belief. I think the evil in the world is b/c of karma & things

that ppl have done in previous lives. I believe that there is some of the God Spirit in all of us, whether we believe or not. I don't believe in a certain religion, I just believe in God. I want God not religion.

To me, the proof of God is simple…

Before the "Big Bang" there was nothing. And then the Bang happened, and there was everything. So if there was nothing, how did a Bang happen at all? Something had to cause it. Absolutely nothing is causeless in this universe.

And speaking of universes, even if there are more of them, they had to come from somewhere too.

I'm not good at faith. I see it in others and I think it is a wonderful thing.

If I believe in a God, it is in the underlying structure of our universe – all that is. To me the perfection of it all – that is God.

You have a point. What created the particles that caused the Big Bang? Ironically this is/are the God Particle(s). But I don't think you'll ever get to the base. In Science, nothing "just existed" and this is something that can only come into one conclusion regardless, in my opinion. It will keep being classified as a Singularity of course, but that's just how it is.

Science is too quick to dismiss anything supernatural and I'm not just talking religion or anything. Scientists throughout history have dismissed valid proof and controls and called the scientist(s) crazy, because it either contradicts what is now known and/or is above most's understanding. It is quite bias and ironically is part of what makes science work.

In short I believe that mainstream science will never prove God, but at the same time it won't disprove a supreme being either.

Ironically, I think that evolution proves intelligent design

Sure, I certainly wouldn't underestimate some supreme creator that is intelligent enough to create our universe to not build in adaptability of all creatures. I suppose to get into the Theology behind Judaism and ultimately Christianity that the Original Sin (as the Catholics call it) beget Freedom of Choice, or Will of mankind. According to what I see is inferred this is so that God can have real, true love from his creations. Because if they have a choice in either love, hate, or indifference then one can love instead of just accept. This would explain the "absence" of God in saving every good person and why nothing is so perfect. This is where the randomness comes in and why it would have made some sense to create entities that they themselves could change and adapt to changes that better suit their environment.

What is most interesting is the perception of both the religious and the atheist. One side of the truly faithful can not see how one can miss a supreme creator in the world around them and the other can not see how anyone could see a supreme creator in the world around them. Certainly, this is a very personal choice and as such, either side should realize this and not try to disprove the other. In Christianity in particular for religion there should be no bias towards your fellow man regardless of their beliefs and in strictly science there should be no bias in the supposed plausible theories, because if you already have bias in the design and control stage, then anything else in the experiment is also bias, which of course is unscientific in itself.

I believe that Hawking has even revised his theory on the Big Bang theory. I believe he admitted that there has to be something else out there, a divine plan perhaps?

Food for thought.

ANY scientific-minded person worth their salt has to know the WHY of it. Of anything. This is the way of human nature and life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have to agree with Dawk on this one, however, if you have read something to this affect somewhere, site your source. Preferably a reliable one.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.
