I was going to point that out too, but didn't want to diverge too far from the topic.

I think it done diverged.

I agree, but I didn't want to get blamed for said divergence. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

That which is unchallenged and exercised as habit rapidly becomes ritual.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.

I have yet to see anyone spontaniously combust for the word GOD crossing their minds.

I could. I do know that flames shoot out of my eyes when I answer my door and someone is standing there holding a bible, and telling me I'm going to hell.

It's always the same question, have you found god. I give the same answer, no, I didn't know he was lost.

Before answering the door, god was not even crossing my mind.

I asked where their required solication permit is, as I know they wouldn't have one.

Several years of this off and on, they still didn't get it.

After myself and several other neighbors had enough, we contacted the police.

Police came and fined them for not having a solication permit, irony. lol

I chase those very same people off my porch plenty. I have my own books I can read on my own and I would beat anyone of them down for telling me I would go to hell on my own property. Man, woman or child…

For me personally, I dont put much stock in what our Founding Fathers believed in one way or the other.

Lets not forget that they thought slavery was good – although i do give credit to Tommy Jefferson for including a line against slavery, but the other guys made him take it out. of course he also kept slaves long after that too…so he's a bit of a hyporcrite.

And "All men are created equal…" well what that meant was all rich, white, land owning MEN were created equal…

gee, how many of us here would not be considered "equals" in our founding father's eyes? /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

being Native American which was considered less than slaves at that time understand that, Slavery however is not an American invention, merely industrialized as a tool which was available at the time.

Americans did not have slave hunters, only the ships that brought them here, the slave hunters were arabs, muslims that descendants of slaves are converting to today. It is also a known fact that a few Islamic states still believe in slavery.

While building a country and attempting to tell its inhabitants we are going to remove your best tools is a good way to get yourself shot.

No it wasn't right, but at that time it was indeed an accepted way of life, and I personally believe that the quote All men are created equal was probably the highest inspiration for the fight for freedom against slavery.

It is also to my understanding that some specific quotes there come from a Native American Ideology but thats crazy talk

"Thomas Jefferson: Author of America" by Christopher Hitchens is a good read Heidi, and might change your viewpoint.

And if you're going to discard slavery apologetics, I'm sure you know there's plenty of that in the bible.

which viewpoint are you referring to Dawk?

as for the Bible, I'm not sure that I've ever

really said my views on that particular book

one way or the other /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Not putting much stock in the founding daddio's words. I think you'd think differently after reading my recommendation.

I'll look into it, but remember Jefferson was only ONE of our Founding Fathers…

Yes, I think that it should, going back to the Founding Fathers (for instance) Ben Franklin's epitaph clearly had a belief in reincarnation. I don't want to print the whole thing here but it clearly states his views on the afterlife. I do believe Ben was a known scientist and not just some "kook." Just my 2 cents.

Edited to add: If you don't believe in reincarnation you can't believe in an afterlife.

If not, if you are reincarnated where do you go? Where did you come from? Where does your soul go after death? You have to have a soul to be reincarnated, right?

Otherwise it just wouldn't just make sense, would it? Not being snarky, just wondering what you think.

If I believe I go to heaven after I die, that I have one spin here on Earth,

then where is the reincarnation? Reincarnation to me is returning to Earth

over and over again, unless you look at it differently.

I guess I look at it differently then. I don't believe in a heaven, per say, just another plane, another way of existence. I believe that we go on to another plane to learn what we haven't learned here on earth.

We reincarnate to learn lessons we haven't yet learned here on earth, we improve more in each incarnation. I believe I have learned some of what I needed to learn now in this incarnation & will carry

it with me into the next earth phase. To me, it's all about learning. Also about helping ppl. to learn their own path.

and that's YOUR belief and that's fine, but you made the statement

If you don't believe in reincarnation you can't believe in an afterlife.

that is true for you, but quite obviously people can believe in an afterlife and not believe in reincarnation.

True, maybe I interjected my own thoughts into my statement. My fault entirely. Please accept my apology. Ppl can believe in an afterlife without reincarnation, you're right.

Maybe I should think before I speak more often. /dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
