Seeker it didn't" have to be measured" they were just trying to prove it's existence

by measuring weight before and after death.

I understand what you're saying but it just seems like a dumb way to go about proving the existence of the human soul.

So we can quantify what that is and accept it as we do other discoveries.

Sounds like a load of horse sh!t to me. /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Relevant to the conversation – my blog about the guy who tried to weigh the human soul.

Read it…was very interesting. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Don't think it's ever going to happen.

I think that we would need to define "Soul" before trying to quantify it. The Soul is usually defined as immaterial. Sometimes referred to as an idea or philosophy, while other times referred to as a person's spirit or essence.

So what is a soul supposed to be? Life force? Spirit? The so-called Conscious? Intelligence (speaking in terms of an organism acting out of more than instinct, ie. emotion, conscience, sense of accomplishment, etc.)?

Even if it is any of those things, could you measure its mass?

Neuro-Scientists have estimated that approximately 10 to the 14th power (100 trillion) bits of information would be sufficient to store a lifetime's worth of experience and thoughts, i.e. a full human consciousness. Even if every single bit was made of the heaviest naturally-occurring atoms (Uranium-238), it would barely weigh a billionth of an ounce. If you use individual electrons to store information, it drops down to about 3 millionths of a billionth of an ounce.

Suddenly my soul feels light as a feather.

I fart, therefore I art.

This is a soul, if there is a soul to be considered.

It's memories, not some spiritual thing that floats around your body making you a more connected moral human being.

Memories that switch off the moment your neurons stop firing, when you're dead.

Show me proof of a soul and I'll consider revising my opinion on the matter, until then…

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

Can you show me proof that you don't have a soul?

I doubt it. Therefore it is not something that can be disproven. It is incapable of scientific analysis. IMHO.

It is also something that cannot be proven. Fine and well that it is incapable of scientific analysis, but just because you can't disprove something doesn't make it valid. The subject can go round and round, but until either side has irrefutable proof, never shall the two meet. IMO

'Tis true.

And so it goes.

A soul can not even be argued for since it can not even be defined. It's time for us to grow up as a society. Start your thinking from scratch is my suggestion for those who need something to hang on to.

While I agree it is indeed time for us to grow up, there are many who cannot start from scratch, that rely on wish-thinking to get through the day.

It must be quite poorly written – my blog. Because I wasn't actually agreeing with what he did. I was pointing out how flawed the experiment was.

When I said it needed no commentary, I guess I was incorrect. It was about having a foregone conclusion and then massaging the data to support it. I thought the silliness of the conclusions spoke for themselves. Guess not. I have clarified here.

your Blogg-icle was fine. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sigh. One shows proof of a positive. No matter what strawman you choose to construct.

No worries, the forces of evolution will coalesce these letters below into a quantitative thesis to adequately describe the properties of the soul eventually …all we have to do is wait /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> ….b
