Makes sense to me because when you make a decision to be agnostic or atheist it is usually a thought provoking time. You consciously seek out and learn about the different religions because you are making a conscious decision about your beliefs. People who grow up and accept the beliefs of their families don't usually put too much effort into research and learning because they are at home in their belief so they are not actively seeking answers.
