When I was living at home it used to happen at all times of day or evening and it was almost always my mom's voice I heard. I guess she had a powerful influence over me. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
On a side note, has anyone else ever heard a man and a woman carrying on a conversation when you are trying to sleep? It happened every time I used to try to sleep in my brothers' room. I used to get up and look everywhere, even outside. but I never found the source. Now I occasionally hear two men talking but I don't recognize the voices. I don't, however, hear the voices of my family any more other than the experience over the holidays. WTH?
Don't bother telling me that I'm probably schizophrenic. altho I'm sure it's possible. Just wondering if that happens to anyone else.

Actually it was likely "Pillow Talk" … I've actually picked up 'pillow talk' at night, even from the neighbors.
There is a reason I think night, for lack of better term … is the same as HAM Radio Operators … Signals carry better at night. I am of the conviction that THOUGHTS works exactly like Radio Waves. Plus there is a lot less "chatter" going on … more is quiet then not … actual vocal chatter … thus people in this relax state pick up better.

Good thing I could never understand a word they were saying, then. /wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

In your experience KK, did you feel like the conversation was actually happening ( since you looked for the source)? I ask because I am trying to get a sense of whether you thought the voices were external or internal. External would mean that the voices could have been picked up on a recorder, internal would mean that they could not. Not to get off track here but if the voices are like radio waves then could they be picked up by some sort of recorder? Or, is it still only sound that could be picked up or sensed by someone with that gift? Kind of like the difference between an evp and a disembodied voice. One need not have any special gift to hear a disembodied voice but it would be easier if there are less distractions. Do you think you heard the conversations inside your own mind or do you think that if you had a recorder going, it would have recorded the people talking?

I definitely think a recorder would have picked the voices up. It sounded like live people, but when I couldn't find any of those I assumed it was a TV or radio and went looking for the source. It would usually stop as soon as I hit the door of the bedroom. Like I said, it only happened when I slept in my brothers' bedroom. My brothers never seemed to experience it while they lived at home, but interestingly my youngest brother was searching the house for a tv or radio that was left on after he heard a man and woman having a conversation when he was sleeping in his old bedroom not long ago. He was gracious enough to call me to tell me about it and to apologize for all the times he teased me about "hearing voices".
I had just put it down to more paranormal activity in our house since we had so much of it. I only reconsidered after your posts about phantom voices. Now I don't know what to think about them. I can say that I did not recognize the voices and I couldn't understand what they were saying (and if it was some neighbors' pillow talk it's just as well).
The two male voices I hear occasionally now also sound like real voices, but I have given up looking for a source. It is strange that I only hear them when I'm in bed, though, don't you think? I am not even near sleep when I hear them most of the time, but sometimes they actually disturb my sleep and wake me up. Last time the voices were so loud I thought I had burglars for a few minutes. I think that it is the male apparition that my husband and I have both seen in this house talking to another one, possibly my friend from my parents' house, but it could be something else. I am always open to possibilities. I think they would record as well, but I have absolutely no intention of finding out.

There is an asumption here .. that Thought Voices are of a frequency that Voice Recorders can pick up.
Can a Voice Recorder pick up your thoughts?
See brain frequencies are not on the same frequencies of Radio – TV … they are on a different frequency.
Think of the Alpha, Delta, and such brain waves … you would need an EEG to pick them up and/or a device that can pick up this specific frequency.
This is why the Brain of another can 'pick this up' -- it is naturally set at another's brain frequency.
Does this make any sense…?

You asked if I thought they were external voices and if I thought that they could have been recorded if a recorder had been present. All I can tell you is that my answer is "yes" to both questions. I have no idea if they really were thought voices or if they were actually disembodied voices or if I was picking up some kind of residual conversation that had happened in the house. I am absolutely certain that I heard them (and so is my brother) and I am certain that there was no logical, physical source for them (and so is my brother). That's all I know. Everything else is pure speculation.
For what it's worth, it seems unlikely to me that they were residual in nature because the conversation seemed quite calm. There were no raised voices or other drama that would seem likely to have imprinted itself on the environment. It was just a man and a woman having a calm conversation. That's exactly what my brother heard, too. It would start when you laid down and stop when you went to look for the cause, then start up again when you laid down again and would repeat until you just gave up and went to sleep. Again, this was my brother's experience as well. I have no idea what it was or what it means. I don't write the news, I just report it. /mellow.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Okay, I read that POST wrong … My Bad … please accept my honest apology.
OfflineOkay, I read that POST wrong … My Bad … please accept my honest apology.
I don't know what you are apologizing for – I didn't take any kind of offense. I'm just trying to explain that I don't know what I heard or what the source of it was. I am honestly interested in your theory, so I am the one who is sorry if I sounded testy. I certainly didn't mean to. I just genuinely don't know what to tell you about my experience. It's like all of my experiences – annoying, sometimes frightening and always without any reason or purpose that I can understand. Frankly, I wish I could just not have them and be a normal person for once, whatever that is.
Please feel free to PM me about this or anything else since I'm sure no one else on this site is interested in hearing anything else about my experiences.
Honestly I am sorry if I offended you – I guess I'm more touchy than I realize about all of this. Again, I apologize if I snapped at you. I didn't mean to.

Please, NO! I read people's experiences here all the time and enjoy reading yours. I've not had that many and find it fascinating.
I'm very sorry you are troubled with this, I think I would be also.
Please consider by sharing, you could be helping others to feel not so alone, and you're not alone either. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Thank you so much for your kind words. You have no idea what they mean to me.
I have had a particularly strange, frustrating few weeks and I am feeling like a complete freak, so it is really wonderful to hear something supportive.
I came to this site to find people like me, and while I have found support, it still often seems that I am the only one who has these weird experiences. It would be really great if other people who have them would also speak up so that I don't feel like such a freak.
I've already told you all that I see spirits sometimes (not often, thank God) and hear things a lot of the time, such as disembodied voices, doors slamming, knocks, bangs, rappings, etc. I am used to all of these things to some extent and I just live with them and accept them as part of my life. The only really frightening thing to me now is thinking that there might actually be real people in the house. Isn't that sad?
Now there's something new in the mix. For the past few weeks (since my grandmother died), I have been emitting some kind of weird electrical energy that causes things to fly away from me and causes objects to move around me. I am certain that I am doing it, but I have no idea how or why. It would be bad enough if only my family had witnessed these events, and believe me they all got an eye full, but it has happened to me in public several times which is humiliating. In the past two days alone I have locked up a hand-held scanner at Wal-mart which only worked again when I moved far away from it (you should have seen the look on the cashier's face – seriously), sent a bowl flying across the aisle just by reaching for it (oh boy, the guy standing next to me couldn't get away fast enough) and then tonight I locked up the machine at the train station that prints tickets. I know it sounds like a coincidence, but there are too many things to go into. These are just the most recent ones.
Before this, I actually had to touch machines to make them go hay wire. Now it seems that just standing near them is enough to interfere with them somehow. I'm sure it has something to do with my emotional state, but I wish someone could tell me how to fix it, or at least ameliorate it a little. I also think it has something to do with the fact that I have been ill with a virus from hell – maybe my electrolytes are screwed up or something.
I'm sure that I will regret disclosing all of this tomorrow morning, but right now I feel really low and extremely freaky. My husband is very supportive but what can he do? What I really, really need is for someone on this board to tell me that they have had these same experiences and to tell me how they handled them.
I honestly wish that I could believe that they were all in my head but there have been too many witnesses for me to pretend it isn't true. My mother alone has witnessed the lid fly off of a box that I reached out to pick up and all of the papers inside the box fly up like something out of poltergeist. She also saw things like cups and glasses fly away from my reach and break, as well as objects on the kitchen counter fly off and break when I walked near them. My brothers and nieces have also witnessed these things. They think it's funny, but believe me, it's not funny to me. I just want it all to stop.
I am so sorry to dump all of this on you, and I'm sure I will really regret it tomorrow, but tonight I just don't know what else to do.
Thanks for listening.

Hey all is fine – I honestly DID mis-read the post, by the obvious 'answer' I gave. Hey when I make a mistake .. I apologize and all is good … No offence taken at all.
I understood in your follow-up post how I mis-read and … well … You be cool and I'm fine.

OfflineSo Jj, when you hear these voices, they are not heard aloud but rather inside your head and it is happening in real time while they are thinking it or dreaming it? Did you coin this phrase "pillow talk"? Is this a common skill/ gift?
"Pillow Talk" was used to discribe the likely hood of what another poster 'heard' in their head. "Pillow Talk" is not a new phrase …
R U asking if I can do this on "command" – No.
Has it happened a lot of different times in my life? – Yes.
More then not they have been confirmed in one way or another.
Yes it is "real time" for the most part, well at least those things that I was able to confirm.
I've put a lot of research and talked with a whole lot of people about my various theories … and some seem to hold water and some are still seeing if the glass has any cracks in it. /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

OfflineThis happens to me all the time. I'm always hearing Jonathan my mother or my cousin calling me and when I get up to answer them they claim not to have. I used to make excuses for it. I'm always being called for something or other, weather it's to ask me what I'm making for dinner or for a phone number or just to ask a simple question. ( I'm the go to gal in my family for some reason) so i used to say that sometimes I hear it just because I expect to at some point in the day, witch is probably 90% of the cases. It's also not uncommon for me to wake up from a dead sleep because I swear I'v heard one of them call me or whisper my name from outside the door, which I always attribute to being part of the dream i was having. But what i can't explane away is the times it's 2 or 3 in the morning and I hear Jonathan or my mother call me. I'm not expecting to be call at that hour and I'm not asleep. It's also not uncommon for me on those late night to hear ether Jonathan or my mother talking, and not the mumbling in your sleep kind of talking, full on conversation mode, and the thing that always stakes me is that they are both heavy snorers. Jonathan has the room right next to mine and his sores always drift loudly in to my room so it's the oddest thing when I clearly hear him talking yet I also clearly hear his uninterrupted snoring. Same thing with my mother. I'm hearing her rattling on about nothing really and the closer I get to her room the more i notice that she's obviously asleep.
This has to be the most annoying paranormal phenomenon ( If thats even what it is, and not all us needing a visit from the men in white coats with pretty jackets). You can't not answer or check up on them because what it they really are calling you or are up late on a school night. And when it turns out you were just hearing things you're all pissed off because you were in the middle of something/really comfy/just getting to the best part of your book/ missed the game tieing home run/or whatever.

2012? Seriously? I survived Y2K, 9/11, 6/6/6, 9/9/9, H1N1, & Swine Flu. BRING IT ON!!!

When I was a younger mother this happened to me a lot. I was always hearing my children yelling, or calling my name.
Lack of me getting sleep, when they were little didn't help much either.
Their in their 20's now, and one is out of the house. I hear them call my mom every now and then.. I'll give the older one a phone call, after hearing mom, and most times something is wrong.
She had a serious car accident a few years ago, on Thanksgiving. I heard here scream my name in the kitchen. I went to look for her, and she was out cold. She was air lifted and was in a coma for a few days, with other injuries. She is fine today, but this was a very isolated country road, and a drunk driver hit her. I was lucky to find her, time was not on her side and few cars travel this road. This still just freaks me out, but I'm so thankful I listened to her voice.
I think it has something to do with mother/child bond, maybe sensing things.
