Do You Listen to Your Dreams

The other night, I had a dream. It was about something silly, but when I woke up I acted on what I saw in the dream. I don't know what drove me to do it – because I certainly don't act on everything I see in my dreams, but in this case I did.

So here's my question. Do you listen to your dreams? If you do, how do you decide which dreams to pay attention to and to act on? Do you think the dreams are actually psychic/prophetic, do you think it is your subconscious picking up on clues you couldn't and giving you a message or do you think it is something else?

I acted on my dream the other night that I won the lotto. We went out and bought tickets. Didn't win. Guess that dream wasn't prophetic. lol

I've had dreams happen that turned out to be true.

I dont think I'm psychic though (although I think Gene may beg to differ /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> )

I think at night your mind remembers little clues or things that you didnt realize

you were picking up.

Hmmm, I had some dreams about Mike…should I act on them Cheryl? LMAO

No Heidi, don't act on THOSE dreams. /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I have had dreams that have come true, but as far as I can remember, they are about silly little things that really don't seem to matter in the grand scheme of things.

I remember a lot of my dreams – but I sleep very poorly and wake up several times a night which could be why I remember so many of them.

The one that I acted on was extremely vivid. I dreamed that Tanner yelled "MOM" from his room and I ran upstairs and his entire bed was covered in fleas.

I immediately went out and got some Advantage for the dogs. Maybe I acted on it because the fleas skeeved me out. I sure as heck don't want a house full of fleas. I think, by the way, this was my subconscious mind telling me that the weather was warming up and flea season was at hand.

I told you it was about something silly.

Hey Heidi -pregnancy dreams are often about creativity.

I do think your subconscience plays a role in your dreams, and sometimes things that it picked up doing the day that maybe you never realized, comes back in the form of a dream. I've had dreams like this and even goes so far as intermingling with other subconscience thoughts from weeks or months before….but i do think part of our dreams in some way or fashion serves as a "playback" of thoughts or events that we encounter. Our brains are complex machines, ones that we only tap a very small percentage of. It picks up on the imagery around us whether we realize it or not, and from that, some of our dreams are based upon this. The brain is a mysterious tool, I've done this more so in the past then i do know, but I could/can wake up at a specific time on the dot every time. Even at different times. If you think about it, how is that possible? Does a part of our brain count off the day in seconds without us realizing it? Think about that as you eat your pizza and wings tonight…. /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Andy, I pretty much remember all of my dreams, and even many different dreams in one night. I don't know why I remember them, but they are all mostly very vivid. Some really bizarre.

I don't think it has to do with being a heavy or light sleeper, not in my case at least. When I was young I was a very heavy sleeper, and I remembered my dreams. Now, I wake up many times a night and still remember my dreams. LOL

I remember my dreams too…but my friend Connie has never remembered having a dream.

Maybe it's a genetic thing on whether we remember them or not.

I'd hate to not remember my dreams. I love dreaming /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Most people don't remember dreams because the memory function of our brain is somewhat supressed during sleep, it's part of the same chemical process that inhibits movement. Back in the 90's I went through a period of time where I was having lots of dreams about a very perplexing design problem at work, which was sort of a good thing. The problem was I was remembering the dreams in detail and it got sort of confusing at to what was real and what had happened in my dreams.

I remember a significant number of my dreams – and I do believe that there can be symbolism that comes from the subconscious. For instance – there is this kid I went to grade school with. I haven't seen him or really thought of him in years and he didn't particularly play a hugely significant role in my young life other than that we always went to the same schools and were in a lot of the same classes. He pops up in my dreams with great regularity. This used to totally confound me – I had no clue why this one kid would be in my dreams. Then I started to look at what was happening in my life around the time of the dreams. Turns out, he always pops up in a dream right before some huge and significant change comes in my life. I always wonder if my mind puts him there because he is familiar (was in every class from kindergarten through the 8th grade with me) and so it is like a touchstone of familiarity during times of tumultuous change.

In my dreams…almost any time it's about something happening

"at home" home is the house I grew up in. It will be my family now,

but happening in my childhood home. I've always assumed that meant

that none of the places I've lived as an adult have been "home" to me.

That my father's house is still what I consider "home" even after all

these years. Probably a combo of always living in apartments and

moving so often.

I do have a recurring theme dream. It involves me trying to make

a phone call. The setting, the reason for the call and who I'm trying

to call are all different, even what is preventing the call to be made

changes…though its usually cant remember the number or keep

misdialing, trouble pushing the buttons…etc.

I realized that when im having those dreams its at a time in

my life when things are going wrong in my life and they are

things that i have no control over.

I frequently have dreams that I have woken up but I can't open my eyes. In my dream I

am in my house and in my bedroom and everything in my dream is as it is in real life, and

I am trying to open my eyes. It's frightening because I know someone is in the room with me

or in the house and I feel threatened but I can't get my eyes to open. I even use my fingers to

try to pry them open and at times I can get them open a little bit and see for just a few seconds

but they always close tightly again. I end up stumbling around trying to find clothes so I can get

away from whatever is watching me.

I think dreams can be symbolic or clues to things you have picked up on subconsciously but I often

have trouble figuring out what they could be referring to.

It took me a long time Melissa before I made the connection

between my "phone" dreams and how they always happen

when something is going on I have no control over.

Actually…since figuring that out I rarely have the phone

dream anymore. I still do from time to time, but not as

often as I use to.

I used to have a lack of control recurring dream that I would get in an elevator and no matter what button I pushed, the elevator would always skip my floor. It would go up and down and I couldn't get off. I haven't had it in years.

It would make sense that my dream means I am "blind" to something or

I am not seeing the truth about something but who knows if that is what it

really means. I could say that it comes when I'm stressed but hell, I'm always

stressed. haha
