Events were genuine, as described, indeed the guy concerned didn't even believe in this sort of stuff.

I've witnessed other things like this too. Things that make me go 'hmmmmm', but...........

I had only seen the place from the web and on TV from the second series of Most Haunted, the episode where Phil and Yvette fall over themselves to get out of the room in response to stones being thrown at the window.

When I got there I wasn’t really quite prepared for exactly how small the place actually was.

Anyone wishing to undertake a serious investigation at the location should really consider going elsewhere, as you are under the supervision of one of the curators at all time so effectively what you get is a guided tour.

However, something really interesting did happen to us whilst we where there that even today I find difficult to explain away.

At around 3 am, the more hardy souls amongst us found ourselves huddled together in the cold icy early morning air, locked away in the undercroft. If you are familiar with the site, or intend to go there sometime in the future, this is the place with the torture racks etc.

After a while there, we undertook a séance and the various sensitives amongst us allegedly started picking up on stuff.

One of the guys who made up the numbers (mature guy, mid-fifties who was there accompanying his wife) volunteered to stand where one of the spirits who were said to haunt the undercroft was allegedly ‘standing.

This just happened to be immediately in front of where I was sitting, on a bench, about three feet away, my head level with his chest.

The guy was told to stand perfectly still and one of the sensitive’s asked the spirit to touch him.

Almost immediately there was a clicking, best described as when you click or flex the lid of a tobacco or sweet tin back and forth (I’m sure you know the sound).

This noise, as far as I could tell, came from the breast pocket of the thick shirt that the guy was wearing.

The guy himself had his hands clasped behind his back the entire time, in full plain view.

Now the clicks occurred for a couple of minutes, to order. There was nothing in the guy’s pocket, which was flat against his chest and the noise was coming from the pocket area.

After a couple of minutes the guy was, by this time, becoming very distressed (wuss!), so the séance was brought to a swift conclusion.

I immediately asked the guy if the noise was coming from his breast pocket, which he confirmed was indeed the case. I then asked him did he feel anything, which he confirmed that he had felt a tapping on his chest in time with the clicking.

All this was captured on camcorder, observed by about 10 people and right in front of my own nose.

I haven’t a clue, to this day, as to the cause of the phenomena and have no explanation, but I recall that it made the cold go away all the same.
