Where to begin … where to begin …

Well, those who know me know that I have had paranormal experiences pretty much my entire life. You also know that I'm a believer in all types of paranormal phenomena, reincarnation, near-death experiences, etc.

Anyway, recently, we moved (mid-September) and we have been experiencing strange activity in our new place. Chad has had some strange experiences, but he can reveal those if he wants to chime in. But, right now, I'm only going to share mine.

A few experiences are not significant and can be explained by natural means I'm sure, like strange sounds that can't be placed, whispering-like audibles that I just can't seem to place, feelings of presence, etc. But, there have been two significant events that i am trying to reason out, but can't.

The first one happened when Chad was out of town, and I was home with my son. I was in the kitchen putting something away, with my back to the kitchen entryway, when I heard a strange voice behind me say, "Behind you."

It was an odd voice, like a muffled little kids voice, but kind of higher pitched. Well, my son and I are always joking around, and I thought he was disguising his voice and messing around with me. It didn't sound anything like him, but I figured that's what I heard. I turned around, but he wasn't there. So I peaked around the corner into the hallway, and he wasn't there either. I walked down the hall and found his bedroom door closed. I opened it and found him across the room playing video games in his game chair. This was all within about 10 seconds, I'd say. The voice was not his.

The TV was not on. The radio was not on. His game was not audible in the kitchen. I am 100% sure it was not a voice from outside. It literally sounded as if it was a couple of feet behind me.

Significant experience #2:

Room set up … we have a pretty small living room/family room. The couch and coffee table face the tv, which is against the back wall. Next to the TV, is my desk and desk chair.

Experience: The other night, Chad and I were watching a movie, a pretty boring one at that. We were both on the couch, and Chad said he was pausing the movie and taking a bathroom break. He walked past me and started into the hallway. As he did, something caught my attention toward the right of the room. I looked over from my place on the couch and watched as my desk chair spun around 180 degrees. I had left the chair facing us on the couch. It spun from that position all the way around and stopped once it faced my computer. This is not just a few inches of movement, but much more.

With mouth gaping open, I called out to Chad that he needed to hurry back. He didn't hear me, so I just lay there (I was kind of laying down with my head perched on the arm of the couch) with my mouth hanging open and my eyes wide, as you can imagine. I sat up and waited to see if it would move again. It didn't.

Chad came back, and I explained what happened. Chad had not gotten near the chair. He hadn't accidentally bumped into it. It was too far away. There were no breezes. The chair is a heavy-duty executive leather chair. It's not flimsy or wobbly by any means. It does recline, and it does rotate.

After the event, I tried for awhile to figure out why the chair moved. We recreated our movements before the chair moved. Nothing. I jumped around the chair to see if I could make it rotate by floor vibrations. Nothing. I gently pushed on the arm of the chair. It barely moved. I put more force into pushing on the arm of the chair. It moved a few inches. The movement I had originally witnessed was a slow but steady 180-degree rotation. I could not even recreate it myself. I would either push it too softly or too hard. It was like someone had their hand on the top of the chair or the side or the chair and was rotating it into position facing the computer.

There is one other thing, but I was hesitant in mentioning it. A few days before the "moving chair," I was home alone and at the computer (where I usually am when I'm home LOL), and I felt something gently poke my right shoulder … twice. Even though I was home alone, I still turned around to look behind me. I was not sitting back against the chair, put sitting straight up typing on my keyboard. I couldn't figure out what else would have caused the poking sensation on my shoulder.

Well, there you have it. If you've read this far, thank you. I do have to say that after evaluating everything, I believe the chair moving and voice to be paranormal and not caused by natural means. I do realize that because these are my personal experiences, no one else can fully understand what happened. Alas, this is the nature of a personal experience.

I welcome your thoughts on what you think might have happened!

I like that you already made attempts to debunk the chair. That is pretty freaky stuff you have going on at your new digs MK. I think I read in another post that you also hear rapping on the wall and voices while you are trying to fall asleep (in Ryan's brain fart thread). Did those experiences occur in the same home as the chair spinning and shoulder poking? Sounds to me like you have got some interesting happenings going on. Any other things leading up to the experience, such as temperature changes or the hair standing up/ goosebumps?

Have most of the places you've lived had paranormal activity? And if so, has it been similar to what's happened so far?

And you didn't tell me! Lol. Freaky freaky. Your right, the chair and couch are pretty far away for Chad to have bumped it in a way to do that.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..

Well, I already played Devil's Advocate with you the other night /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Have you decided whether to do any EMF or EVP work?

Milo,

I have heard the voices/rappings long before moving into our new place. It's an ongoing phenomenon that I've encountered. But, at this point, I think this is a sleep state phenomenon because they always occur while I am in bed either falling asleep or waking up. I am pretty sure it is a natural result of falling asleep or waking. While it seems so real, I'm just not convinced they are.

Well … there was one thing that happened leading up to the voice/chair. It was odd. Chad and I were laying in bed about to fall asleep, when I heard this strange whoosh sound (almost like a mini explosion but not violent or anything) followed by the feeling of an energy wave pass over me. I know this sounds odd, and this is the best way I can describe it. It was something I had never experienced before. I immediately asked Chad if he heard/felt it too. He said no.

Jill,

Yes, since I was young I have been witness to paranormal activity, and not just at my house either. I have seen apparitions, felt my bed shaking without a known cause, had sleep paralysis, been witness to strange electrical phenomena, seen "intelligent" orb-like entities, among other things. This activity had subsided over the years until recently.

Chrystal,

Sorry! I was going to tell you but hadn't had the chance. I had only told Chad and Heidi what happened until I posted here. I'll show you what happened with the chair. And if you are coming over tomorrow night for the soccer party, I'll show you then.

Heidi,

Thanks for playing Devil's Advocate! lol

Chad had previously done EMF work and got little to no variations throughout our place. We are going to do EVP work soon.

Well, with the recent happenings I think I will do another EMF sweep to see if anything has changed. I would also like to do an EVP session at some point.

I have no problem with our place potentially being haunted, as long as the activity doesn't escalate too much. I've read where these things go through cycles, and we might be cresting up with all the recent increase in activity. We'll see where it goes from here. It could all have a logical explanation, but the chair still has me scratching my head.

I've always thought that hauntings are just as dependent on the people present as they are on the location itself. To me, some people are more apt to experience paranormal things over others. Now, whether that is chemical, a frame of mind, or something else entirely remains to be determined.

Just a thought that popped into my head when I read this part of your story:

I used to work at a restaurant/ sports bar and we would say "behind you" if we were trying to manuever around other workers with trays, plates, etc. Just a shot in the dark but is there any chance that your home could have been a restaurant in the past?

That's also what we say at Disneyland, back in the kitchen. Now, if she starts hearing, "Knives behind." she better be scared. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Wow, that is a really interesting thought Milo!

As far as I know, there was never a restaurant in this building. Now, what was here before this building, I don't know.

However, we are within a couple of blocks of the downtown area where there are tons of restaurants!

Yeah, our landlord says there's somewhere around 40 or so "restaurants" in the downtown area.

I say "restaurants" because he claims they are just bars that sell some sort of food.

While I know its said in food services, various shops and grocery stores Iv worked in we say "behind you" as well when people are in the back moving things or stocking. We also happened it say it in the Deli I worked in while moving around the kitchen and preparing the food. (A side note, when I worked with horses we said it as well inorder to avoid injuries or horses that did not like each other. But Im not sure if that was just our practice.)

Awesome catch with the "behind you", milomilford! I should have picked that one up, myself. I must say, having worked both in catering and in bistro style delis, that is definitely used a lot- the "quiet" version of that is to just place your hand gently on the small of someone's back so they know you're going behind them and there won't be a collision, but it's not a situation where the staff can either talk much or be heard easily. Both of these methods I use to this day in my own home out of habit. Perhaps the ghost even just worked at one of these many restaurants downtown…

Also- I was wondering what your background of personal experience was because I have my own theory that certain people always seem to attract that kind of stuff no matter where they go. Perhaps something has always been following you. For me, I've had spirits come to my home that passed on land around where I live. My house isn't "haunted"- but it's constantly going through phases of visitations. It just might be less that the homes you've been in are haunted and more so that something about you draws the activity in. Or maybe you're just drawn to homes that have activity…

Great thoughts Jill!

I think I've reached the point where I believe that we all share space with spirits/ghosts . . . they are everywhere. Sometimes they notice us, and sometimes we notice them. But mostly we don't notice each other.

I can't remember exactly, but I want to say my first paranormal experience was when I was between 8-10 and I saw full-bodied apparitions. Since then I've experienced some strange things indeed. LOL

I do believe that certain people can attract spirits that "attach" themselves, if you will.

Quiet is good.

Maybe someone just wanted to make you aware of their presence and is now content to share space quietly.
