OfflineHello Paranormal Underground forum members,
My name is Jim and i live in Maine with my soulmate Sue and our two spoiled cats.I am a babyboomer and will be 55 next month. Here is WHY and HOW i believe in the Paranormal;and every word is the truth.
When i was 10 in 1964 my great aunt Belle {my mother's aunt} whom was 80+ stayed with us in the winter as she had a rural farm and didnt believe in mordern stuff like electricity and the such.As they used to say "she was set in her ways" and enjoyed the simple life that she lived all her life since being born at the farm that had been in the family since the beginning.
Well my mom and me and my older sister lived in apartment building in town on the second floor;and you had to climb a winding staircase to gain access to our apartment. The floor above us was empty and on stormy/rainy days my mom hung wash in it.
Well one warm and sunny day before school ended for the year,I was sitting at the table doing school work and there was 3 light taps on the door like Aunt Belle always knocked;so I said "mom aunt Belle is here".My mom and sister were doing wash at the kitchen sink with the old style wringer washing machine;and mom says"let her in as Cookie {oldest sister} and I are busy with the wash.Well kid fashion i got up from the table and ran to great Aunt Belle, opened the door and no one was there.
I looked out;up and down the stairs;saw no one there and shut the door.went into the kitchen and my mom asked "wheres aunt Belle??" and I told her shes not here. She said we heard her knocking on the door, she has to be here!! My mom and sister searched upstairs and downstairs even out in the yard and the street looking for her but she was no where in sight.THAT summer Aunt Belle became sick and was put into a nursing home where she eventually died later that summer.
One summer day much later after her funeral i was uptown at a store getting stuff for my mom;the sidewalks were packed with people.I looked up ahead and I saw this little old lady with a shawl on and back to me up ahead that walked just like Aunt Belle.I ran screaming hi to her and got to where she was and no one like that was there. Then i got thinking you dumb kid Aunt Belle is dead.I checked the stores without thinking before that thought hit me.
Later on as a teenager I read all that I could about ghost and the paranormal.I talked to some senior adults and read also in a book that what I had experienced was known as "the knock of death".We all have a way of knocking on someones door whether we realize it or not;and the knocking by an individual not being there means they will die; their "knock of death".And yes I will be honest and tell you it scared the crap out of me and still gives me chills thinking about it.I have had a couple things happen when I was teenager;maybe in time and if you want I will tell them.THANK YOU for reading this and I am curious if anyone else here has experienced this before?? Best Wishes>>>JIM

OfflineNo need to say it is all the truth on this one. This is more common than many realize. It happens in my family also with the exception that someone dies within a week or so.
In my family it seems to be passed on from generation to generation. My Grandmother had it, my mother and I. Now for some reason, all my children have it. I have 4 from two marriages and they can hear the knocks but my wives never experienced it.
I can't explain it but my children and I have all heard knocks at the door with my wife sitting in the room with us yet she couldn't hear them. In one instance even the dog ran to the door barking.
I have never heard of that book but I am going to look for it.
OfflineThe closest I've had to this wasn't really paranormal but something else. Back when my wife and I lived in Dallas we came down to Waco since one of my favorite aunts was on hospice and expected to die soon. We came down to say good bye and all. Later that afternoon we headed home. We were on I-35 somewhere around Lancaster and suddenly I knew that my aunt had died. I told my wife this and I remembered the time. When we got home we called back down to Waco and found out that my aunt did die and at the time that I felt it.

OfflineHI Jim, welcome to PUG.
I've never heard of this and I'm sure it would scare the crap out of me if I did hear it. Thanks for sharing.
OfflineAfter reading this thread today, one of my friends was telling me about a knocking on the door with nobody there, and all I could think of was the death knocking thing. And then she went on and said that when she explored further, there were packages from the UPS guy. I've got to stop being so darn impressionable.

Offlinea knocking at a window and it happened years ago and no one died after
it happened.
No one that you are aware of, maybe? From the many people I have spoken to on this, not all are the same.
Some hear knocks, taps, etc., from different places. Some experience death on a personal level, (i.e. family member) some people that they just have come in contact with, (i.e. friends or friends of friends).
Also, maybe if you weren't aware of the phenomenon at the time you may have just simply disregarded anything that happened afterwards? Then there are those who can't experience it too. I have to get that book.

Granted it was years ago I had this experience, but had anyone close to me died afterwards
I would remember that. Now I'm sure plenty of people died after the experience, but not
any in my life.

OfflineI have also had the "knock of Death" experience. Very scary stuff. I use to think that when the phone rang or when a car drove up it was my grandmother. Then there would be that all too nerve racking moment when I realized she had already died. I remember one time I was with my sister and the phone rang, we both looked at each other thinking the same thing and my sister said "It's grandma." Then there was a strange pause and she looked at me again, that's when I said "She's dead." It's odd that we would both forget she died and would often both think she is contacting us at the same time, but I think for us it was more of a mental state and not a paranormal occurrence. It's hard to explain, but we feared her when she was alive and would try to warn each other if we thought she was calling. It's strange, my grandma almost never called, but when she did my sister or I would hear the phone ring and say it was her before picking it up, we were always right. It made is frightening when we assumed it was her after she died. But again, I don't think there is anything supernatural about this, just creepishly coincidental.
