This morning, as I was going through my usual routine of rushing to get out the door and to work, I was in the kitchen searching for my keys. Found them on the table, as I turned my head to leave I caught a glimpse of a face about a couple feet from my own mixed in the motion blur. It appeared to be an older man with dark rimmed glasses, about my height. Kind of startled me at the moment.

It was in one of those moments where you turn you head rapidly and all the room is a blur. This face was kind of mixed up in that blur. I took a moment to try and recreate it by standing at the spot and turning as I did a few times, and I could not figure out what could have created the illusion. We've never had the slightest thought that there is anything haunted about our house.

I'll experiment more when I get home tonight.

The mind is an amazing thing, and loves to make things

look like things we recognize. It could very well have just

been your mind seeing the right group of things and turning

it into a "person". I'm not sure we can get our mind to do that

"on commmand", you trying to recreate it may no work. It's

usually when the mind is not looking for it.

Or, maybe you really did have a paranormal

experience. I'll be interested to hear more /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Yes, normally I'm all over it being pareidolia (matrixing) but I couldn't recreate this at all this morning.

but you probably wouldnt. if your mind is looking for it, you wont see it.

like the time i thought i saw a person standing on

the side of the road. turned out it was just some things

on the sidewalk that for some reason my mind made

look like a person. those things are still there, but

i've never thought it looked like a person again,

because now my mind knows what it really is.

Well, I'd say it definitely counts as an experience. If it were matrixing, I'd think you could recreate it.

If you were able to make out dark-rimmed glasses, it sounds like it really stood out from the background.

i agree. if it were matrixing i'd think you'd at least be able to see what was causing it, ie plants, a knickknack something of that sort. if there's nothing of that sort involved, then keep an open mind about it.

It would be one of those things I'd keep my eyes open to see if something happened like it again.

Even if it was some kind of illusion – some kind of neurological anomoly – it is still worth some research or study. In my opinion, too many people discount the wonders and mystery of the brain. I guess we hear so many times "it's all in your head", that we have somehow, over the years, misunderstood that to mean that any kind of phenomena that is internally driven – is utterly insignificant. I disagree. We spend so much time chasing things that we can't see or prove, we forget to focus on what is readily available to us. There is so much about the human mind that we still do not understand. I can't help but wonder if many of the legitimate evps that are captured aren't really our own thoughts that are somehow telepathetically imprinted onto our recorders. Maybe you did see the face and maybe it was the result of a neurological (rather than paranormal) phenomena – but that doesn't make it any less interesting – at least not to me.

I wouldn't, I agree to keep your eyes open. Goat you have always seemed to have your head on your shoulders to me.

I wonder if anyone has been went under hypnosis to explore their mind set during a paranormal experience.

My thoughts tend to go along with Bryan's. We always seem to recreate and question the experience, which is a good thing.

But, why leave it go if we can't. I've often wondered what people were thinking right before they've had their experience, even where one's subconscious was.

Im not talking about past lives, etc, just thought. Who knows maybe we trigger experiences with the paranoramal, unknowingly.

I wasn't able to recreate it. Maybe a daydream thought bubbled to the surface? It wasn't anyone I recognised.

It's funny, but I had a similar experience coming in from the back porch the day before I left on my trip, I thought I saw a giant kitty face. Turned out to be a wicker chair on the neighbor's back porch. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Bryan, I've thought about the possibility of imprinting an EVP. Our mind can be pretty powerful and when it has expectations it tends to fulfill those expectations anyway it can. So who knows what we're truly capable of.

Symp, funny you should mention hypnosis. I've been fascinated with hypnosis recently. Sadly I cannot be hypnotised it seems. We have a friend who's a registered Hypnotherapist. They couldn't induce me even though I was willing. Of all things I was going for the past life regression thingy. It would be great if I could though. Upon that, I was wondering about the possibility of being hypnotised to recall the subconscious picking up on ghosts or spirits that the conscious mind may have missed.

I've been quite interested also, on where the subconscious may go with picking up on paranormal experiences. I've been fascinated with hypnosis also, new adventure for me.

I'm thinking about having it done, I hope I'm not one of those people who can't be induced. It's funny, I don't remember my dreams, and would like to get to know myself better and find out why. I figured, I'd start with dreams and go from there.

NightGoat, don't discount your experience to pariedolia (sp?).

Just earlier, while perusing the forum I got a glimpse of a woman looking over my shoulder as if to read what was on the screen. If you have seen my thread on The Lady That Lives in Our House, you know that I have lived here most of my 46+ years. We have seen her many times and her appearances are backed up by my husband. I just said "Good Evening, nice to see you again."

You may actually have had an experience that cannot be explained by brain function. They never show up when you are looking for them. Good luck on your adventure!

Thanks Almost….

I don't dismiss it entirely, but still there has never in six years been signs of anything paranormal in this house, period.

There has been one consistent oddity, from day one and that still baffles me 'till this day. But that would take this to another topic which I'm sure there is another forum header for here somewhere.

That's great that you have a spirit living (or not, well, living) in your house. Just curious to know if you call out to her does she let you know her presence?

I find this very interesting, the thought that evp's are our own thoughts . It's a very provocative idea imo. Definitely something I had not thought of before.
