(from today's blog)

by Karen Frazier, Managing Editor

Paranormal Underground Magazine

You may have noticed that I haven’t been around these parts much lately. Life always meanders in surprising directions, and mine certainly has.

A few years ago, I was delighted when my good friends Cheryl Knight and Chad Wilson asked me to join them at Paranormal Underground Magazine as the Managing Editor. Being a part of both Paranormal Underground and Ghost Knight Media has been a wonderful blessing, and I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it. Because of PUG, I have been able to do things I might not have done otherwise – like have a past life regression hypnotherapy session or interview the guys from Ghost Adventures. It’s been a lot of fun, and I am very proud of what we have accomplished and the product that we’ve put out month after month for our readers to enjoy. I’m proud of this site, and I adore the readers and members I’ve gotten to know. I’m profoundly grateful to my good friends and colleagues Cheryl and Chad. We have built something together, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have done so.

If this sounds like a good-bye blog, it kind of is. You see, my life has led me in new directions recently, and I’m feeling like it is time to simplify and return to those things about which I am most passionate. My freelance writing business has taken off, and I’ve recently started participating in two volunteer positions which are quite time consuming but very important to me. I no longer have the time to give the necessary attention to Paranormal Underground or Ghost Knight Media. Resultantly, I am stepping down as Managing Editor, and as a partner in both businesses; however, I leave you in the capable hands that have guided the magazine all along. Cheryl and Chad really are Paranormal Underground Magazine. I am just blessed to have been a part of it.

I will still be around, hosting the radio show and writing an article here and there. I’ll stop by the forums, too. You can’t get rid of me that easily. I am still passionate about Paranormal Underground – both the magazine and the radio show, and I am still committed to our listeners and readers. On the other hand, you won’t see my name on the masthead any longer, and I probably won’t be blogging in the editors’ blog anymore. Maybe I’ll pop in time to time to blog on the “member blog.”

In the meantime, thanks to all of the readers and members. You have been a wonderful source of support, and I appreciate all of you. I’m looking forward to continuing the dialog both in the PUG forms and through the radio show and articles I write for the magazine. Thanks for everything. It’s been fun.

Wow. That was the last thing I expected you to say.

I've learned that when life leads you in a new direction, it's always an adventure to take that path. Happy journey…and don't be a stranger. Who else will untangle all the trouble I start around here? /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Karen, how dare you put money-paying jobs and volunteerism before PUG! LOL

Just teasin' … We're lucky you stayed so long!

Make sure to come back often. Someone has to put BornAware in her place. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm guessing I'll still be around about as much as I have recently. Really, I'm pretty much just abdicating responsibility and sticking around for the fun stuff.

I'll admit it, while I just want Karen to be happy in life, I am a little relieved that she's paring down her list of "side jobs". It just seemed like the longer she was here, the more she looked to me like a bad Kim Jong Il puppet…

What I want to know is this: who is going to scrub the toilets now that I have abdicated my responsibility? And who is going to clean up after the drunks puke all over the Cantina?

This is an early April Fool's gag. It's even better than what I had planned.

J/K, Karen. I hope you enjoy your future.

And I vote for Heidi to clean the toilets.

I vote for Perpetual Persuit. He's my partner in baby duty, he's great at cleaning up puke! lol

Karen, I'm glad you are sticking around for the fun stuff. Don't toilets and drunks clean up after themselves? Oh, you mean in real life? Ha, no wonder you are shoving off?! JK, best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

Karen, I don't know how to respond to this news other than to say I wish you all the success in the world. You have been an awesome partner over the years and I am honestly sad to see you go. I know you will still be around, but it won't quite be the same. You will succeed at whatever you do, that is a given. You will always be welcome at PUG and you will always have a place here. You have helped me grow as a person and I hope the same can be said of our impact on you. Good luck on your future endeavors!

Thanks Chad, Michelle, everyone else.

I can't really talk about my new projects due to confidentiality issues. I can say that I am working as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem/Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in the dependency court system (i.e. kids in foster care and wards of the state), and of course, I am writing for clients. I am also volunteering at the Crisis Clinic of Thurston and Mason Counties doing some outreach for them including producing some videos and working on a long-term project they want to do.

I have structured my life around being home for my child for the past 14 years. Resultantly, I've worked full time from home ( a blessing that I've been able to do so) for a decade and a half. Now that Tanner is 14, he doesn't need me at home as much. He's a busy kid with his own activities, and I can finally leave the house occasionally and talk to grown ups. The volunteer jobs are my way of getting back out in the community and hopefully making a difference. I knew when I took them on that the projects would be time consuming. At the same time, I wanted to keep my finger in the paranormal "pie," but I really felt I was doing Cheryl and Chad a disservice with how busy I am. I just can't make PUG a priority any longer, so this seemed the best solution.

It's not been an easy choice for me. Even though I am still writing, doing the show, and still maintaining friendship with Cheryl, Chad, and others (as well as my bad-a$$ mod status here on the forums), PUG has been a huge part of my identity over the past few years, and I feel like I've severed a part of myself. My hope is that, as time allows, I can work in a special project here and there with the magazine.

Both of the volunteer activities you chose are very noble and will make a difference.

Really glad that you'll still be around though! /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
