It's interesting to think about.

Personally, I get really depressed when my surroundings are in chaos!

I've had this idea lately, that the state of our physical environments somehow makes entities 'notice' us. I've heard stories of how the activity of a place escalates or kicks in when a remodeling or reconstruction take place. I hear of entities pestering new homes. I remember a Parnormal State episode where activity was occurring in a home that was full of clutter and junk. Now, regardless of what you thing about Paranormal State, it gave me pause to consider. Personally, a cluttered and dirty home is very stressful for me. Its emotionally exhausting to me because, in my head, I've cleaned the place ten times over in the space of an hour, whether its my responsibility or not. I try to ignore it, but there it is. Yes, I can be OCD that way, I do freely admit. I feel like a clean house is 'serene'. I begin to wonder if clutter, such as a messy house or construction, or reconstruction, creates chaos and if chaos is a sort of psychic energy that could attract an entity. Is chaos some sort of red neon "notice me" light to entities? What have our investigators thought in reference to the surroundings they've investigated? Have they found entities in messy places? Have they found entities in places that had a history of conflict, i.e. residual chaos? What is the common denominator that connects these places and why are they attractive to entities? And, for the record, I'm not talking about entities that may follow a person home. I'm wondering about why they attach themselves to the original location.

In my personal experience, remodeling or redecorating does energize paranormal activity. I have always just assumed that they resent change in their environment. After all, it was their house first. In my childhood home, for example, my mother stuck up three samples of wallpaper one evening before she went to bed because s he wanted to see how they looked in daylight as compared to evening. When she came downstairs, two of the the three were on the floor. Poor paste or a vote by our invisible friend? I won't comment, but guess which paper went up on the walls? Another example: she kept hanging a picture on the stairwell and every morning it was lying on the floor propped up against the wall with the string unbroken and the nail in the wall intact. My mom eventually gave up and hung it in another place and it has hung undisturbed for twenty years. On the opposite end of the pendulum, my husband and I completely revitalized a derelict house and I got a pat on the head by an unseen friend. I took that as a thank you for our hard work, but I leave it open to interpretation.

As for clutter, it seems likely to me that some items are antiques or "used" items which presents a likelihood of attached entities or even a "stone tape" or recorded kind of entity, ie a residual haunting, or the kind that replays itself over and over.

As for a history of conflict or residual chaos, I can't believe that anyone who has ever gone house hunting has not had an experience where a house had a bad "vibe" or a negative feeling because of prior events in the house. such as a nasty divorce or domestic violence. Houses like that can look beautiful but still won't sell (and this is from an ex real estate agent). People may not be able to express why they don't like the house, but it languishes on the market none the less.

I'm interested to hear other people's experiences, especially with house hunting.
