In the wake of the likely cancellation of History channel's MonsterQuest the SyFy channel has announced a new paranormal show.

According to Cryptomundo, Paranormal Investigators will premier this summer. This is actually the same show that was tested on the NatGeo channel under the title American Paranormal.

Here's the article:

Syfy announced it has ordered Paranormal Investigators, a new reality series that will follow a team of specialists as they attempt to uncover supernatural and paranormal occurrences caught on camera.

You all may have seen the pilot of the series with Jeff Meldrum and Bill Munns examining the Patterson-Gimlin footage on National Geographic.

Now the greenlighted series (six episodes) is currently slated to premiere Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 10PM ET/PT.

According to a press release from Syfy, the new hour-long series Paranormal Investigators (working title) was announced on Thursday by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. Paranormal Investigators will separate fact from fiction by scouring the web and traveling the world in an attempt to uncover the truth behind some of the most compelling, unexplained supernatural and paranormal occurrences caught on camera.

The series is executive produced by John Brenkus and Mickey Stern for BASE Productions, and is a co-production with Sci Fi Channel Europe LLC. The six episodes of Paranormal Investigators will begin production during spring 2010 and premiere summer 2010.

“Paranormal Investigators is a strong and natural fit for our growing Syfy reality slate and will be in great company alongside our successful Ghost Hunters franchise,” said Stern. “Our new partnership with BASE Productions is an exciting way to continue to grow our development mission of imagination based entertainment.”

The six-person team, led by former FBI Special Agent Ben Hansen, consists of Larry Caughlan, Jael de Pardo, Chi-Lan Lieu, Bill Murphy and Austin Porter. In each episode, the team will first analyze and debate potential cases by reviewing intriguing and unusual scenes and images captured on video and posted online by “eyewitnesses” from all over the world. The wide-ranging phenomena being investigated will include cryptozoology and creature sightings, as well as other unexplained topics.

After agreeing on which video warrants further investigation, the team will embark on a full investigation in order to try and explain the unexplainable, and dispel hoaxes from fact. They will try to recreate images, carry out scientific experiments, and search for clues and evidence using the latest technology and investigative techniques; in order to answer the question, “Is this real?”

“Paranormal Investigators (working title) will take viewers inside the creepy and mysterious world of paranormal behavior,” said Brenkus. “In each episode, investigators armed with the latest in high-tech equipment set out to uncover the truth behind compelling images, to dispel or prove their accuracy.”

wow, that's some kinda press release….is that Hansen guy the UFO dude who's always wearing the ultra dark aviator glasses & bb cap w/UFO HUNTER on it? Since "iffy" is part of the NBC "brain trust" they'll figure a way to mess everything up, they usually do. So sad!

I believe you're thinking of William Birnes, publisher of UFO magazine. He was one of the UFO Hunters on history channel.

This show has a lot of potential to be pretty good. I would prefer they stay away from "ghosts" as much as possible since there is already an abundance of groups looking for human spirits. To me MonsterQuest had created too many episodes that were basically Animal Planet or Discovery type shows. (ie. Killer Shark, Pythons in Florida, Piranah Attacks etc.) I like the investigations that are off the main stream genre. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

"They insisted that the victim animals simply had died of dog bites from dogs or other animals. They suggested that disease might have been responsible for one animal's death. They denied that the victims had been exsanguinated, as many witnesses had claimed, and even suggested that the puncture wounds reported might be from barbed wire. Callers reminded them that some wounds were deep enough to reach into the victims' lungs, that the flesh was not torn as in dog bites, that signs of struggles were inexplicably missing, and that corpses did not decay normally, but their arguments were brushed aside. Also brushed aside were callers' attempts to bring extraterrestrials into the conversation.

When the recording ended. I rewound it and played it again and again. I still could not believe what I was hearing. The callers had the skeptics pinned against the ropes from the very first call." - Scott Corrales

I can understand MonsterQuest mixing in some shows on invasive species. Gives them a chance to show they can find evidence on an investigation and I believe they've been trying to draw in another segment of viewers.

I enjoyed American Paranormal and I think the show has a lot of potential too. The test episodes were good but I would expect anyone not interested in the paranormal would have found them a bit boring. Hopefully that won't be their downfall. Ghost Hunters has conditioned the average viewer to think that every investigation yields shocking evidence in an hour's time.

I think that is the reason that I love destination truth so much. I like how they mix it up and only the best ghost shows make it into the rotation. Unlike GH who can't investigate alcatraz every ep, and as such there are bound to be yawners. Time fillers, if you will.

I watched all of the American Paranormal shows and thought they were top notch. I just hope that the show doesn't fall victim to the Syfy mentality of "entertainment at all costs". The fact that it was the most objective of all the paratainment shows is promising and makes me look forward to it even more.

I agree with you Andy. DT is doing a really good job of mixing up the subject matter and keeping things interesting.

Like I stated before, I really enjoyed the American Paranormal shows and I'm hoping that they keep the same "flavor" and not try to spice it up for entertainment's sake. The detailed study of an incident or piece of evidence makes it pretty compelling. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Time will tell…but I can see SYFY putting their spin on it and lean towards the "entertainment" aspect not the educational that American Paranormal was….

With all the shows already out there, will anyone notice this one when it starts?

Depends on the timing. If they line it up with Destination Truth, GH and GHI then they'll get viewers sticking around to check it out.

That had crossed my mind. They have enough stuff with their spin. If they screw up this I will just give up on SYFY as ever being a trustworthy network for any information.

Did they mention anywhere to go to leave any real feedback? I doubt the decision makers really take the SYFY forum seriously. JMO

Yup, if Syfy messes with the show's concept, then I agree (with exception of DT). I would hate to see syfy go the way of A&E.

Anyone else catch this? Episode one was about the infamous YouTube sensation that most on here I am sure have seen the so called "ghost car" and part 2 was about the Arizona lights. They spent 30 mins on recreating and analyzing the video of the chase and spoke to the officer. They ended up assuming the car went through the fence because it was not secure along the bottom. They spent too much time on this part and not enough on the Arizona lights.

It was only footage from one camera at one location. I was confused on whether this was separate from the "Phoenix Lights" which was witnessed by thousands and has tons of footage and witnesses galore. Overall I give it a C based on too much time on the "ghost car" and not enough on the "Arizona Lights". I like the premise of the show but was disappointed in the first episode.

I'm almost positive I've seen the show you're describing or one very similar. I remember both of these examinations.

I've only heard of them referred to as the Phoenix Lights. My guess is they are the same.

I truly enjoyed Bill Murphy's segment. Bill carries that show, all the way. The rest are a weird mix of gen x'ers and millenials, all trying to fit the "edgy paranormal" stereotype. Having met Bill and talked with him at length, I truly think he will approach the show with honesty and bring his considerable experience to bear. If anyone bring's substance to that show, it's Bill. And what is the story on the ex-FBI guy? He is way to young to retire from the bureau I would think.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode of fact or faked. That creature reminds me of something a friend of mine and I once saw driving the backroads near Muskogee. What we saw sort of materialized, and seemed vaporous, but it's general locomotive characteristics and build was similar. I found that segment to be very interesting. Thermal hits were cool as well.

I know I have mentioned this before, but the goofy effects do take away from the show. The addition of the rainbow "histogram" over the thermal footage to make it look more techy and official was just ridiculous. It is the same way that DT overdubs the sound of tube charging to it's thermal video, or the way they overdub the crackle of a geiger counter when using standard emf meters (that have no such audio ability like the k2 on Extreme Paranormal). I know why they do it, it is just annoying and I think takes away from the experience from those watchers that know a bit about the equipment. The average public probably won't notice and would think I am nitpicky. I usually am, lol.

I liked this one better also. The film from Fresno was indeed interesting. I have no idea what it could be. Seems if it was faked they would've used a being similar to what others have seen but those two were just so bizarre its add to the credibility.

With the number of UFO clips in the thousands, I assume they chose one they knew was likely staged so they could debunk something to add credence to their agenda. Overall it was a fairly interesting episode. One of the few shows I will watch on a regular basis.
