What did the money get you? Just curious, did they bind it and turn it into a book or just make copies and staple it?

Okay, I've finally finished these and here's the dealio. Much as Ryan pointed out these books follow James Potter and his first two years at Hogwarts. The two "books" are the "Elder's Crossing" and "The Curse of the Gatekeeper". Oddly the 2nd book "CotG" literally picks up where Deathly Hallows left off. While over all the books/short stories are no where near as strong as JKR's books, they are entertaining and naturally rely heavily on the JKR "universe", but there are enough wrinkles to make in interesting. If you are a hard core fan who needs everything to be letter perfect, as the author himself rightly points out, these are not for you. If you have an interest in some of the loose ends that Rowling never addressed (or at least has not addressed to this point) or just curious to someone else's take on the Potter World you may want to check them out.

I liked them and while you couldn't beat the price (free download), reading them off the computer can be a bit much. Fortunately I have a friend who is a printer & owed me a favor or two and he printed them up for me from my flash drive which made reading them easier.

I must confess, the April Fools Hoax about Rowling releasing another Potter book sounded brilliant as it touched on a bunch of themes I thought would make a fantastic book, but alas not to be. I'll try to find it and print it here. I'm an unabashed fan and there are still some subjects that I would love to see addressed.

I've been actively reading these things now and gotta say not too shabby.

Naturally in a venture like this you need to draw upon the universe that Rowling created, but you have to present some innovation as well. Not bad at all.

Just a 411 to anyone else interested in this stuff, either read the two "novels" first or only read 2 of the 3 Xmas themed shorts. The Petra one apparently has novel spoilers and will make more sense once the books are read.

Any fan of the series would find these interesting.

Has anyone ever read these? The wife and I have read the first one and greatly enjoyed it. They are written by a different author but from what I understand they have been endorsed by JK Rowlings. You can download the first two of the series along with some short stories the guy wrote as well.

The first one picks up at the exact moment the last Harry Potter book ends.

No, but thanks for the tip! I'm going to check out!

We already know what ends up happening to Harry and gang,

so it takes a lot of the suspense out of it I would guess.

Also not being written by Rowling, I'm not sure if I will be interested.

This is someone else's take on it. Only Rowlings really matters.

	If that makes sense.

I may check them out though. I shouldn't judge before reading.

ETA: ryan, by exact moment do you mean the moment the story ends or the moment the epilogue ends?
