I confess I watch GL. But I have to say I never saw 2 guys more full of themselves in my life.

I beg to differ…! /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I like them for their ideas and methodologies. As strange as some of them are, they make sense to me and I can appreciate them over the same ol' same ol' we always see on TV. Granted…it's still just TV.

I wouldn't believe a single thing the brothers K had to say, beyond they were in this for the money, and/or were attention hoes.

Isn't that the way with all these groups on TV? Why else would they even have a show if not for the fame and fortune!

By the way, the way you worded that made me laugh!

If it's a ghost lab would that make everything they do hypothetical?

/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> Good point!

Not to derail but I wonder how many reading this would hoax for face time on TV? I would bet not many, considering what I intuit from the people here.

I sure as $hit wouldn't. The legitimate investigators I know wouldn't. Those who truly care about the paranormal and discovering what it was about – they wouldn't. On the other hand, those who want to ride the coattails of the paranormal to fame and fortune without any true interested in the paranormal – and I've only personally met a few of those – definitely would. Anything to get the old mug on TV.

Mystical:

Does it not seem that every place these jokers visit appear to be haunted?. Seems . . . convenient.

First off I would have to seperate TV investigators from real investigators.

I don't think it's in the same category to compare.

Heck I don't even investigate, and certainly would never want to be on a paranormal tv show either.

It does seem like every place is haunted … except for the early days when GH first was aired. I haven't watched every episode of GhostLab, or even GA, which also always seems to gather evidence, a ton of it! But I've seen most of GA and several GL.

I wonder if they find all of this evidence because they find the most haunted places to investigate and evidence is easier to obtain, if certain evidence is being misinterpreted, or … faking and "creative editing" is going on.

Now, that being said, in talking to the GA crew, they seemed straightforward and honest in answering our questions. They seemed passionate about what they were doing. I don't believe they fake evidence. That's just my personal take.

Then again…

You aren't really lying if you believe it!

So, in reference to the TV shows. Regardless of how phony something may appear. Can they be blamed for it if they believe it is real or what they are doing is justified? Hmmmmmm…

Excellent point…and that is also what "makes" a TV show about haunted locations, otherwise they wouldn't exist, legit or not.

I agree with Kim (Ghostbreakers). We can convince ourselves that all kinds of things are real. And if they are real to us, I suppose it doesn't really matter how others perceive it.

At the risk of sounding wishy-washy…

Yes, after long thought on the subject, reading and listening to all people, not just the TV show celebs. I realized just what I said above. I cannot call someone a fraud or liar if they truly believe in what they say or do, whether it's true or not. I mean, I wouldn't call someone a liar because they believe God intervened and changed a personal situation in their lives.

So maybe some, (obviously not all) of these people on TV, etc, really believe their EMF meters are showing them where a ghost is, that inaudible static noise is a voice telling them something, they think a shadow is a spirit or that window reflection is a face of a sprit. That doesn't make them frauds, liars or bad people if they truly believe.

Many of us in this field say how open minded we are. Maybe we should extend that open mindedness to those we so easily ridicule now. Now don't misunderstand. I am still not a fan of para-entertainment, am critical of most shows and am not succumbing to any type of pressure. However, I have my own feelings, beliefs, experiences and knowledge that others do not or have a hard time believing so, I am willing to give the benefit of doubt to those, I feel believe in what they are doing.

I will still express my opinions and give those who are obviously taking advantage of the naive the business. However, I guess I can also, at least for now, not group everyone into the fraud category that has an odd or misguided belief in something.

I think my TV/DVR is haunted and should be investigated. It keeps recording the Italian Provedia (sp?) and California reform school episodes of Ghost Adventures OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Mocking me, clogging up the hard drive, causing my dvr to switch channels while I'm attempting to watch live sporting events….(whispers fearfully) it's like it knows I'm not watching those programs anymore…..

i think this is something i need to be reminded of and i thank you for doing so, ghostbreaker.

i just want to know if, when deciding to do one of these shows, they advertise for the obviously obnoxious to apply. and i am getting tired of the confrontational shite that is used. i know that if they were looking for the spirit of my cait she would either tell them to 'pi$$ off' (and it wouldn't be an EVP either) or deliver a close encounter via a SMACK to the side of their heads. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Hey Annie,

In my experience, the "obviously obnoxious" is all that production companies and directors/producers are interested in at this time. They want people, first and foremost, to make excitement and/or drama. Unfortunately, as GhostBreakers and I (and a few others) have said before, the facts and educational aspect of this industry are ignored due to the requirement of high ratings (caused by the obnoxious creating drama and ridiculous excitement).

you are correct of course, becky. i just find it disheartening.

i am by nature a quiet person. INSIDE my head may be like a pingpong ball convention on meth, but outside i am quiet. that aside tho, i can't believe there wouldn't be an audience for serious investigations, but the powers that be have this dumbed-down idea of what we want; they always seem to cater to the lowest common denominator.

is there anyone who watches GH who hasn't seen an advert with steve shrieking and not laffed, yelling 'SPIDER' at the tv screen??? /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

annie

Hey Annie,

The "pingpong ball convention on meth" connection is hilarious!! I feel like that on a daily basis since we always have so much going on and I'm constantly thinking ahead as well as "what to do now".

You are right about an audeince for serious investigaitons. There would be an audience, like you, me, GhostBreakers and a few others around, I'm sure, but I don't know if it would be enough to keep the show going and on air. Knowing production companies, they are very particular about what they look for, and if you can't offer what they need to keep the ratings high then they cut you without a thought.

I completely agree with you though. If they put a show on the air that was about the truths of paranormal investigating, and what it all entails, I'd gladly be a part of it! Until then, we can only keep up our hopes.

Credit where due, the Alcatraz episode was pretty decent I thought. The "Eniche" evp was a stretch, but eh…rest of the show was entertaining.

That was the only part of the show I questioned as well. I thought they did good with their investigating skills, reasoning, and all the other EVP's they aired.

What did you think of the camera falling over, too? The only thing with these guys, it seems like they ALWAYS have this kind of an experience, on every show, but never catch it on video otherwise.

I wasn't aware of the specific ghost stories of Alcatraz before we investigated it this past December. I was kind of happy to hear what they told as ghost stories, and what they experienced there becuase it correlated a lot with what I sensed, "saw" and what we captured as what we believe to be evidence.
