I didn't see this, but I would have liked to.

I'm not surprised, really. Stations are doing what gets ratings!

I saw it on HBO over summer. I'm not thrilled about it in the least.

Wonder when the mainstream networks likes CBS, NBC, etc will jump on board the ghost wagon and do their own shows….I am surprised CBS does not have a ghosthunter meets survivor version out….no wait, I guess that has been done with ghost hunters academy….nevermind.

ABC originally aired Scariest Places on Earth until the ABC/Family Channel took it over, then Chiller and SyFy bought the rights. That was one of the worst shows to "start out" on a main network, in my opinion. Good idea done badly.

Heard of it but haven’t seen it. I guess you have to take into account that this is how the people at the networks make their living. It’s how they put bread on the table for their families (or maybe a new Mercedes in the garage, lol).

Regardless, it is what they do and they are going to produce what sells and what the majority wants to see. They will also do it until it dies out and there is no sign of that happening soon. Someone will just put a new spin on things (like Animal Planet) and there you have it, a new show!

However, I am holding out hope that someone out there with a serious interest in the paranormal and the money or connections to produce a serious show will come along one day. I won’t hold my breath for a hit series but a well made documentary would suffice. Hey! It could happen…

I don't have HBO. /mellow.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I don't see what the big deal is, though – not everyone really pays all that much attention to these kinds of shows like the paranormal community does.

More than the paranormal community have to watch in order to keep the ratings up high enough for the shows to stay on TV. Not all fans are from the paranormal community, either. I know quite a few people who grew an interest of the industry after watching some of the "ghost hunting type" shows on TV.

I was talking to one of my wife's co-workers yesterday and she asked about our last case. I told her what results we had so far and she said that she watches all the ghost shows on TV. I don't know what else she likes but she appears to like ghost shows. Also don't know her beliefs in the paranormal either. Still the ratings are up for these kind of shows despite the fact that it's not October. I really think it will only last a few more years.

I totally agree, Becky – I would even go so far as to say I'd bet most people within the community nowadays became involved because of paranormal shows.

What I meant though was that while these kinds of shows are popular, and have fans of the "genre" (can we call it that yet? /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> ), I think that the only people who really pay attention to the shows to such an extent are those of us who actively seek out sites and forums about the paranormal in general – the community that is involved on a near-daily basis in one way or another with the paranormal.

Hope that make a little more sense (it's still early here…).

Makes sense, Tom. I understand what you're saying now, and I agree. The only people who can watch these shows and scrutinize them to an extent are the ones that have investigated and have an understanding of the true nature of the paranormal, and/or those who know the land of TV. Others watch for pure entertainment purposes assuming it's as simple to catch a ghost talking to you, or moving your water bottle, within a matter of minutes mostly on privately owned land or in abandoned buildings that are illegal for the public to tresspass. Kind of like what Ryan said, I also think it's a fad and it won't last too many more years.

Then us old fogies of the genre will be the only ones continuing on…. as usual!! /happy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

While I don't begrudge anyone trying to make a living, in a "specialized" field such as this, w/no new innovations being utilized/presented, I just feel it dilutes the legitamacy pool if you follow me. Just my opinion.

Will Dr. Drew be involved in this one?

Does it involve a sex or drug addiction?

I'm not so sure he'd involve himself in the unhealthy addiction of ghosts.

The biggest problem I see is paranormal programming brought to you by people who are riding a trend as opposed to actually having any significant interaction with paranormal. But that's just me.

Will it ever be possible for anyone to do a show that accurately represents what paranormal investigation is about … completely?

Probably not. Doing so in a 22-minute or 45-minute show just doesn't allow for a true representation of what really goes on to be fully covered.

I doubt it Cheryl, it would be too boring.

It very well could be possible, but if done properly it would not include all the "female part" footage, and all the extra drama, the running, screaming and arguing that keeps people watching for the sake of entertainment value. To do it properly, a full 12-hour investigation in a place could be done, and air it by the hour, uncut, in order, a week. So it'd be a 12-week series. Something along those lines.

People who aren't that familiar with an actual investigation and what all in entails, which is a lot of quiet, patience, conducting experiments, etc., aren't going to enjoy a real investigation versus the "fun stuff" they can see on today's ghost hunting shows. I personally think it's worth a shot because those of us that understand a true investigation will be interested, though it will still cause some sort of turmoil because the way the group on TV investigates will be different than the way they do it so all sorts of crud will still be talked!

There's my two-cents!
