OfflineFirst ever post here, so please be gentle! Long time lurker and I thought its time I introduce myself.
I consider myself to be intelligent, and when it comes to electronics I consider myself to have a above average IQ.
I'll start by saying im a big fan of Ghost Adventures, as they seem to really attack a site. They've done things like set up "EMF pumps" to produce energy, they've got neat things like motion detectors, and of course your general equipment like audio recorders and IR cameras. I love how the guys will set up a "motion sensor, camera, and emf pump" trap like they did at Houghton Mansion. I'm not trying to say their evidence is "rock solid" but I like the method of confronting the situation, not quietly slinking around in the dark such as GH or GHI. What they do feels like "Ghost HUNTING" while GH feels like they're doing Ghost Oberserving.
But…I've had enough of the Ovilus. These would be the Goggles that Zak wears that allow spirits to "interact with a database and then manipulate that database to produce words."
Ugh. Im lost already.
So they're telling us that these "ghosts" are capable of:
1) identifying this random piece of electronics Zak is wearing
2) the ghost can "tap into" the electronics and has the ability to understand the electronics (ever seen Ghost in the Machine?)
3) THEN the ghost understands what a "database" is and can look through a database and select words
4) FINALLY these ghosts are actually listening to zak, interacting with the database, then finally answering him through a database.
C'MON already!! I dont know many teenagers in the 2000's who could do this, but yet the old dead ghost of a prostitute that was chained to a radiator in Goldfield is going to be able to use this database?
So, do any of you REALLY believe that this tool is doing ANYTHING?
Thanks!
OfflineI admit it is interesting and the results are more interesting but I agree with you. How does a ghost know to spike EMF to a certain level to get a certain word. I don't know all of the science behind it and perhaps someone here does and can explain it. But I don't see how it works like they claim. It's like that Ghost Radar app for Iphone and the Ipod. It gets interesting results but it's hard to understand how exactly it works. Much less how a ghost knows how to operate it.

Are you referring to the host or equipment? Just kidding, but I've often felt it odd that no matter what language is the native tongue, that these "spirits" always seem to communicate/understand English.

OfflineStill alittle baffled by the ghost box I dont buy into the ovulus or the spirit wand or any other gimmick people are selling, I do think the idea is cool and enjoy watching it as entertainment but I am not going out to buy such gear. I have a preference to a compass over a k2. This is old school stuff that I like. I know the gauss meters are good tools to use because research shows of reactions on it during activity.
Maybe the newest tool being used that I might get my hands on is filtered cameras such as the full spectrums being used by the hated GHI. I will settle for ultra violet. Results are being documented plenty these days more than the night IR vision and heat seekers.

OfflineAs far as the ovilus goes, I just don't know. Sometimes it seems to be spot on, other times not. I used to have the paranormal puck (PC version of the ovilus). I put it through the ringer, and while at first I thought that I might be getting some form of communication, I finally chalked it up to randomness. It was quite frustrating, as everytime it seemed to be trending on something pertinent to the situation, it would veer off into left field and completely invalidate anything. I do not know about the mechanism at work here, and like any form of ITC, it really must be considered subjective until a better understanding of the process is obtained. It just didn't work for me, however I hear of others who have success with it. I have also heard of the ovilus phenomenon where it gets fantastic results at first, but with repetitive use the results dwindle to nothing as if it has become detuned to the operator. I know it is a subjective line of thought, but it does make a person wonder.
One final note about the puck is that it does have an emf/temp/voltage/frequency datalogging system that can be used as a data collection device without the ITC mode on. Unfortunately it logs one sample per second, and I believe that is a little slow for "real time" data. Also it logged the data in the ever-frustrating comma separated value format, which gave me headaches when trying to graph that much data in a single sample. It was a fun piece of equipment, but ultimately I sold it. While it is not being produced anymore, I hear that an ovilus/puck hybrid will be available on digital dowsing's website soon. If this sort of thing is your cup of tea, it might be something to consider. If anyone tries it, please share your experiences, I am always interested in hearing such accounts.
As far as the GA crew, I don't mind the fact that they constantly experiment with new equipment, in fact, that is great. I don't think that they take the time to learn it's effective use as well as they should though. I don't think they are nearly critical enough on their data, but then again, that would not make for very entertaining television. In the meantime, I just enjoy watching the new technical innovations come forth on the show. Push the envelope, I love it…

OfflineI've always felt the same about this subject. If you're so inclined, I'd like to hear your reasoning on this sometime.
Read, Sarah Estep and Konstantin Raudive also.
Well, this is what I have found while researching spirit voices, not EVP’s mind you but actual clear voices responding to direct questions. Just another thing I have different classifications for. LOL
I will try to make this a brief as I can, yet understandable.
A person is not born knowing any language, it is learned. If you take a Russian baby and raise it in France it will speak French and visa, versa. Obviously making language a learned skill.
One more point is that, it seems to be our human ego or arrogance that makes us believe that all the messages we capture are meant for us. So when we hear a foreign language we dismiss it or give it some other significance other than the message must be meant for someone else.
Now as was mentioned above that; no matter what language is the native tongue, that these "spirits" always seem to communicate/understand English.
I have found that the reason for this is very simple. Spirits aren’t actually speaking any particular language but more importantly the living person is understanding what is being relayed. My point being that spirits don’t speak in physical sound but their messages are being imprinted on the recording device.
Think of it this way. No matter what language the person speaks they are thinking the same thing. I say WATER but the next guy says AGUA. Two different words from two different languages but both persons are thinking the exact same thing. So, what I see happening is that if the spirit is trying to relay a message to a specific person, regardless of who captures it, it will come out in that persons language for whom it was intended. Which is why people should record the words or messages they receive in a journal to maybe make sense out of it. Not sure I was able to get the point across in this short explanation but I hope you get the basics of what I am getting at. It is a little more complicated but along these lines.
There is a documented case that supports my idea. A little bit anyway I think. Konstantin Raudive did an experiment with several people in the room from around Europe. All the people in the room heard the exact same responses. However, each heard them in their own native language. 5 different people hearing the same messages in 5 different languages at the same time. The experiment being to see if they would get a response to the questions. Since they all were intended recipients they all heard them in the language they understood.
Basically what I am getting at is that there is so much more to spirit voices. Besides just getting some scratchy noise on tape and trying to make something out of it. I hope some people will begin to look harder at what they get rather than just getting excited at getting anything that even remotely sounds like a word. The people I mentioned in the beginning have conducted hundreds of thousands of recordings and captured many words and sentences. Sarah Estep was known to always have a recorder going wherever she was. Something I have thought about but it is not as simple as it seems.
