Just wondering if anyone caught the mid-season finale of DT? Josh and the gang were back looking for the legendary Yeti in the Himalayas. They went to Bhutan instead of Nepal this time. It was one of the better episodes. Of course it had the usual exaggerated suspense, Josh's one liners, transportation issues, etc.

It was an hour long and actually included 2 days of footage in the finished production. They did find some evidence and brought a hair sample back for testing that produced some rather interesting results. It was humanoid and not human nor did it match any other mammals in the worldwide data base they accessed.

I try to post on the DT site on skiffy but it seems to be attracting trolls who make absurd post with no rationale thought and I get fed up with them so I had to come over here to get some reasonable input besides someone saying "this is the dumbest show ever". /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

"They insisted that the victim animals simply had died of dog bites from dogs or other animals. They suggested that disease might have been responsible for one animal's death. They denied that the victims had been exsanguinated, as many witnesses had claimed, and even suggested that the puncture wounds reported might be from barbed wire. Callers reminded them that some wounds were deep enough to reach into the victims' lungs, that the flesh was not torn as in dog bites, that signs of struggles were inexplicably missing, and that corpses did not decay normally, but their arguments were brushed aside. Also brushed aside were callers' attempts to bring extraterrestrials into the conversation.

When the recording ended. I rewound it and played it again and again. I still could not believe what I was hearing. The callers had the skeptics pinned against the ropes from the very first call." - Scott Corrales

First off, the thermal hits they were getting looked like tigers and bears, from what I could see. As for the hair, I think it is awesome that the DT crew might have potentially found a new species of something, but…

…it doesn't mean it was the hair of a Yeti. It would take many more years of research, in my opinion, and would need more findings to determine what exactly the animal was. I like the fact that they are out there looking for this stuff, but we need to remember, in the end this show is along the same lines as the other para-reality shows. It is there to make money for its sponsors through its viewership. So, they have to keep it interesting.

Sometimes I get the sense with DT that situations are set up for the dramatic effect. When Josh was on the bridge, did he really almost fall through? Or were we led to think that was the case, and he was only doing that for effect. Yes, I know that these people are supposedly professionals, I use that term loosely, in their fields, but they are first and foremost actors on a TV show.

Yes, it is good viewing IMO, but anything they "discover" needs to be taken with a grain of salt as well. Kudos for an interesting episode nonetheless, I for one will be back for the second half of the season.

I agree. Like I said on the skiffy board, that for a show that is for entertainment and with research as a backdrop this could be an awesome discovery. It does seem like Josh makes a lot of assumptions based on a partial image on the FLIR but then again we only get to see what they don't edit out. That was strange that the lab that did the DNA research was in such a small community in Texas, you would think maybe Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I just finally watched it on my DVR. I think what I like best about these shows are the adventure--traipsing strange countrysides at night doing things most of us wouldn't do in the day. Also, the trips there, the little segments where they're cracking jokes, getting local haircuts, fire throwers, buying carpets or learning archery. I find them culturally fascinating.

To me, Josh Gates makes the show.

To me, Josh Gates makes the show.

Without a doubt. He leaves, the show is done.

Loved the show!

Some amazing discoveries by the team. Agree that the thermal hits looked like a tiger and bear.

I just can't believe the danger they put themselves in for the show. I loved it when Jael asked if they had any weapons. hahahaha

Josh is hysterical! Love it.

Entertainment wise, DT does it for me for the same reasons already mentioned.

This is my number one paranormal type show.

I'm watching more this year, and like this crew better.

I turn it on, have fun with the DT crew and go for the ride.

Of course I check Orbitz first. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

You mean besides her keening whine? She's still no where near as bad as Ryder (or Penske or whatever the heck her name was) and for that I'm thankful. Josh does make the show and any other show he's part of more palatable. He's entertaining and that's what I'm looking for….to be entertained.

I'd have to say as an avid lifelong hunter this show has me

entertained and interested. However as said above it's only a

matter of time before one of them is mauled by a "thermal

hit to end all thermal hits", I'd like to think that ,that, is not

why I am watching. The "small" lab they are using in Texas

is among one of the best in the world. The unidentifiable hair

sample they retrieved from the tree was incredible. Josh Gates

has definitely put together a winner of a show.

The logical side of me thinks the crew would have some sort of protection.

Tranguilizer guns, or maybe stun guns.

DT, may even employee locals for protection, from animals and people.

This seems a very high risk, and I would think the cast may have to be insured.

The interest would have to be protected.

I don't get the impression, the DT crew is just going out to an amimal's dinner blindly.

But, that is just me. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Maybe I don't have as trained an eye as I think I do or

there cameramen are the worlds best at hiding any and

all amenities you listed above. I sure hope they at least

have a megaphone or a picture of Bea Arthur….something!

Like when Josh kissed the cobra on the top of its head. I couldn't believe it. And then Chad said, "That's not a real cobra."

So, it got me wondering if they switched the cobra out with a fake one. I just can't believe he's run the risk of death to make the show more interesting by doing something like that.

I wondered about the cobra, also. It didn't look real.

I remember in an early epi. Josh hired a guide. When he talked to the man, Josh said he needed a guide and security.

I think it was the Ropen/Chupacabra epi. There was another epi where security showed up and told the DT crew they should leave the area and stop the investigation. Security has spotted people in the area.

This last episode, with Josh calling the ponies horses had me rolling. Horse person joke. I think it was the last epi. Anyway, he hired the ponies to carry the gear.

They had explained the area had tigers. My thoughts were, so bring them some ponies. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Ponies, gathered in an area or tied would up be such easy prey for a tiger.

Then I thought, whoever is watching the ponies during the investiagtion, without a doubt in my mind better have some type of gun.

I love the show, but the crew is not alone in these areas.

There's an old saying, a man who is not afraid of anything is just stupid and looking to die.

I don't think Josh is stupid, and I think their investigative areas are kept as secure as possible.

Granted there is still risk. What good is security, unless they have some type of weapons.

Unless they are ninja's. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Yes, I agree. There just has to be organized security on their investigations. Being among bears, tigers, on and on, I don't think they'd put themselves in that kind of danger for a TV show. Sure, I know some people do (like survivor man, etc.), but I think that is rare.
