OfflineI found a website that goes into the history of Wellington and the disaster. It also has some old pictures from before and after.
OfflineBig news. Jim and I just finished our big day of filming for the documentary we are making about Wellington in conjunction with APART of WA (Regan's team) and NWPIA. Please see our announcement in today's Editors' Blog.
As always, Wellington was interesting and didn't disappoint.
OfflineAnother day of filming up at Wellington today. I posted a picture on the site, http://www.avalancheofspirits.com in the images tab to give people an idea of the size of the slope that came down on those two trains.
Our spirit friends were quiet. Some days, they are.
Read about our day in our Wellington blog: http://www.avalancheofspirits……m/1/post/2…wellington.html
OfflineThere was an article about NWPIA and Wellington in the local paper this past week:

OfflineIt was beautiful – and it was weird because in the evening it got cold, but occasionally a nearly tropical breeze would go past in the midst of the cold breezes. Must have been in at the edge of a weather system or a conversion of hot/cold air or something.
So – not trying to tease but I have to tell you guys. I seriously got the weirdest audio thing I've ever gotten on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I'm sending it around to people to see if they recognize it – but if no one does – um….seriously weird.
I'm not sure if I'll post in the gallery. I'd like to save some stuff for the movie and if this turns out to be something we can't explain, then it would be gold.

OfflineThis is wood from a collapsed wooden snow shed. The picture doesn't do justice to just how much or how large this hillside of wood is.
We believe that these are the remains of the Hotel Bailets in Wellington. Just some foundation slabs remain.
Jim bringing the camera to get some footage of the Hotel Bailets.
Color is just starting to come. This was taken on the road driving into Wellington, which is old railroad switchback grade.
OfflineOh I forgot to mention our Wellington "happenin'" yesterday…
We parked at the Wellington trailhead for our hike to Windy Point. That meant that we needed to pass through the snow shed as the first part of our hike. We stopped at what we've started to term the "children pole". This is the pole where NWPIA captured the image of the little child peeking out from behind it on video, and also a pole where just a lot of things that surround the kids seem to happen. So we stopped at the pole and left two toys for the kids – a stuffed puppy and a ball. We put it back behind the pole in hopes that other hikers would leave the toys there so that the children who are there would have some toys.
We continued on our hike to Windy Point – which is maybe 2-1/2 miles down the trail from the snow shed. When we returned to the shed, we were hiking through and were about half-way up the shed when Jayme, Bert and I all heard what sounded like a child's voice in the shed. Jim didn't hear it. We stopped and listened, and checked for children – or anyone – on the trail ahead of us or behind us. We didn't see anyone in either direction, nor had we met anyone as we were walking. It was a week day, and except for a grounds keeper early in the day when we first got there, we didn't see another living soul. We did see a snake – but that's my nightmare, not yours.
Anyway – all three of us heard it quite clearly. Of course, because we were hiking and just passing through the snow shed, we didn't have any equipment rolling – wouldn't you know it??
When we stopped at the toys, the little stuffed dog had what looked like sand on its back that wasn't there when we left; however, it could have been a small rodent or some sediment dropping from the roof of the snow shed.
I'd like to think the voice was one of the kids letting us know they were happy with their toys.
