What is the price of coal these days? I'm sure it's not too bad of a trade in.

Didn't know you had to be licensed for a taser here(in Ohio). But I do know anyone can carry mace, pepper spray, etc etc.

If someone gets spooked and starts shooting, they shouldn't have been licensed to carry in the first place. If they were that is.

You can also carry in the open in Ohio as long as your old enough to own the fire arm. The only thing they can actually do is charge you with menacing if someone complains. You are, however, prohibited from open carrying in the obvious places. Banks, State and Federal Buildings, Bars, etc.

More info can be found at opencarry.org

Beyond that, there are other weapons besides fire arms you can defend yourself with.

I and everyone I know carries a knife. Not just for self defense, but utility as well.

And you don't have to reload a knife.

This isn't bravado, just facts. And a bit of dark humor.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

P.S. The history of Christmas, especially in this country is very interesting. If you have a chance, you should look it up. It might surprise you.

I agree. I love my knife. And it seems safer to carry then a gun. I dont have to worry about shooting myself lol. Its light weight and easy to bring out quickly. No reloading or fooling with the safety. And I often use it at work or home or out and about. Just like my lighter. I dont smoke but seem to use it a lot. Knives just seem the better choice. At least in most situations. Along with self defense training.

Yesterday while talking to the hairdresser my aunt mentioned ghost hunting somehow and the HD said that her son was out in a cemetery the other night with some expensive camera and they were hunting along and were robbed at gunpoint of all their equipment and money. I just wanted to let people know and see if this was a new thing. I think it would be beneficial to all forum readers for us to list what would be some good ways to prevent such a thing. Like hiring an off duty police officer to watch over while hunting

This is the second time recently that I've heard about a robbery during a Ghost Hunt. I'd be curious to hear more details about the above incident. In the other story I heard, the supposed "Ghost Hunters" were in an abandoned building without permission. To make a long story short, they too lost all of their equipment.

I have to wonder if these incidents are a result of what I would call situational ingnorance.

I believe it's important to be aware of the area, what you're walking into and what the potential problems may be. This includes threats from human and other elements. Someone else mentioned being armed during Bigfoot expeditions. I completly agree given the dangers possible be it from wild animals or humans. When undertaking a search for Sasquatch, At least one of my group will be armed.

Being out in a cemetary in the middle of the night may be perfectly safe in some places. In others, you may be taking a very serious risk. Untrained and uninformed people make foolish mistakes. This all may be a result of the current "ghost hunting" fad.

Anytime a group goes into an unoccupied building, it needs to be cleared first. The group does not take anything like cameras or things. They check everything, every room and every place. If there are people there with the intent to rob, the group will only lose what they have on them.

While this is still extremely dangerous and someone could get hurt or even killed, I really recommend having someone in the group that is trained clearing buildings, i.e. a police officer or someone with military experience. And then make sure you have written permission to be there.

These are the types of cases where it pays to be patient in setting them up. It never pays to rush into a case without doing research, getting permission and studying the environment for dangers.

Thats about all I know detail wise

Locational and situational awareness is definitely something to practice /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I can't imagine why anyone would ever get robbed ghost hunting in places where drug deals typically go down… /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Yes, it's hard to screw up using a knife, but aside from the rather limited range, you have a good chance of getting it taken away from you if you don't know what you're doing. With pepper spray or a taser you at least know that it won't kill you if you get it used against you. Ruin your day most likely, but not kill you.

I fart, therefore I art.
