OfflineYesterday while talking to the hairdresser my aunt mentioned ghost hunting somehow and the HD said that her son was out in a cemetery the other night with some expensive camera and they were hunting along and were robbed at gunpoint of all their equipment and money. I just wanted to let people know and see if this was a new thing. I think it would be beneficial to all forum readers for us to list what would be some good ways to prevent such a thing. Like hiring an off duty police officer to watch over while hunting

Spooky! I'm going to move this to the "investigations" forum where more people might see it.
Thanks for posting.

OfflineI know a number of people who won't investigate ANYWHERE without packing heat or at the very least, tasers. And no – I'm not talking about myself, although I wear my taser into pretty much any unknown situation.
I may have asked this before, but forgot the answer, forgive me please. Do you need a permit to carry a taser?

I don't think you do. You may need one for the tasers that shoot out the spikes…every state is different though. In my state, unless the laws have changed since I received my CCDW, tasers were not even mentioned. Every state has their own laws, my concealed permit is only effective in like 12 or 13 states (the last time I checked). I do not like tasers as the batteries may run down and the thing would be useless in case of an attack….I'll stick with my .40 or 9mm. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

OfflineOkay, I'm not being a d*ck here, really, but they were ghost hunting. Logical deduction would make one assume that they had cameras and/or video cameras. Did they not get a picture or footage of their assailants? They might actually have a shot a getting their stuff back if they did.

Okay, don't listen to that butthead. I just realized the flaw in my own logic.
I can admit my mistake. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

OfflineGiven my profession, I always have means at my disposal to dispose. That being said, having a cop on the team isn't a bad idea, or at the very least someone with a concealed carry permit. I certainly don't advocate throwing on a couple of thigh rigs with Desert Eagles in them, but perhaps some common sense wouldn't hurt.
Tasers are great tools, but again common sense prevails. Don't take a taser to a gun fight.
OfflineBeginning to remind me of a Monster Quest show I saw where they were looking for BigFoot. This supposed police officer heard a noise in the woods. So, in the dark he starts shooting randomly in the direction of the noise.
How about being more responsible and careful where they hunt instead? Just a thought.

ourobouros2k2 is right common sense and an awareness of your surroundings. Abandoned building in WATTS….yes
bring the " Deserted Eaglettes " and a law enforcement representative of your choice. However without the proper
intensive training required to deploy a firearm in a deadly situation I'd suggest a less lethal form of response for the safety
of nearby team members. I personally would refuse to ghost hunt with any "armed" individual that I didn't feel had been overly trained in the use of firearms. It's hard enough to stay alive these days without an accident taking out yourself or a friend. This is only my opinion. Any person when questioned about their firearms competence should not be offended. They should, however, be able to explain their training and experience ,to anyone, in such a way as to allay all fears or concerns

OfflineThat's just not situational awareness. You should always be aware of your surroundings at all times.
I have no problem with a team member carrying a weapon. I always do when I'm off duty. I have a license to do so and I recommend other people get theirs. If not for ghost hunting but for protection in general. I want to be able to protect my family at all times. When I'm with my group they become my family. There are others on the team that have their CHL and a few of them have military or SWAT training.
