Problem that I have been getting lately with my H2 is corrupt files on the 4gb sandisk SDHC card. Over the last month, I have been getting file corruptions/data loss on my card from the H2 every session. Some remedies I have tried:

formatting through device each time…

starting/stopping record before reaching the 2gb file split limit..

keeping record times below the 2gb file split limit…

updating firmware…

none of these methods have stopped the problem. I am suspecting the card may be the issue, but was wondering if anyone here had experienced the same thing with zoom recorders? This recorder has been my workhorse and has served me faithfully without problem for almost a year now. Losing a third of my audio from last week's investigation is the final straw. I depend on this unit, and this bug is getting the better of me.

Today I am going to order the Sony PCM-M10 for use as my primary audio recorder. Stay tuned for a review /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Andy-More often than not we have had issues with the cards. For some reason the H2's are picky. Although, I do see a 4 gig sandisk approved, I do not see the SDHC card http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/…..Dlist.html Thats not to say it won't work. I would either try an known tested card off of the list, or at least a different card. Good luck as the H2 is such a work horse. Sorry to hear about the audio loss.

Andy,

Have any SDHC cards worked in your H2? SD and SDHC use different file systems (FAT16 vs FAT32), and 4GB is right smack in the middle of the overlap region between the upper capacity of SD and the lower capacity of SDHC. We use a 16GB SDHC in our H4n, and aside from going through batteries faster than Spinal Tap went through drummers, it's been absolutely rock solid.

The H2 might be running a FAT16 format, in which case you can still use a 4GB SD card. SDHC is pretty common, so you should be able to recycle it to some other gadget.

See how much more helpful he is than I am when it comes to technical stuff? It's why I keep him. Without him, the garbage disposal would have died years ago.

Thanks guys. I know for sure that the zoom operates on FAT16, hence the 2gb limit for file length (newer firmware is supposed to insure that you don't lose too much data when that limit is hit and the file splits). I guess what puzzles me is that the card/device combo has performed flawlessly on many investigations over the last year. Workhorse is right. I am going to pick up another card and see if that remedies the situation.

I also just ordered the Sony PCM-M10 and am having it overnighted because I am so virtuous in the area of patience. I was distracted at work last night going over the features between the PCM-M10 and the PCM-D50. Basically identical except for the built in mics. The m10 also has more recording options and microSD expandablilty, where the D50 is only memory stick. In the end I went with the m10.
