Seems like the thermal inclusion is lacking, using the ultrasonics to fill in the blanks of thermal data. My only issue with this is that if it is thermal that you are after, the i3 just released from FLIR is a fully functional imager (with about the lowest resolution that I would ever try). Still it is a lot better than a histogram. 1100 is the current price, and I expect it will not be long at all before they are sub 1k used. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if new imagers break the 1k price barrier this year.

If Chappel would release an ultrasonic only version (at a savings, that price is just nuts) I would have no problem seeing it as a good instrument for paranormal use.

The low resolution is a problem. While I do find the ultrasonic component an interesting idea, until I see a unit with sufficient resolution to show you what you are looking at, this unit's price just disqualifies it in my book. for 1100 right now you can get a FLIR i3. Not the best, but far better than this.

Though I may not have the techno-savy you do ... what I did read I would have to agree ... at best this would be inconclusive .. But technology ideas have to begin somewhere .. hopefully this will be improved and enhanced ... hopefully.

Ok, I think I kinda get it. So it has nothing to do with sound? (Did I mention I'm technologically challenged?)

I don't think we have one like that per say, mainly if you have a question it's explained the best way possible. I know in the magazine there have been equipment for beginners articles a few times.
