Yep, good ole 60hz and harmonics. Then you get other goodies like cooling fans, etc.. adding to the headache. But once you get a good picture for how the system works, it can be pretty darn cool!

I've been having fun running the program on my old laptop. I guess since it is about eight years old it is not as sophisicated as my new one. I keep getting a constant streak at 60 Hz and a slightly fainter one at 120Hz. I'm guessing this is 60 cycle interference.

I am having fun with what sounds I create get what kind of reading. I've been whistling into a straw, using a pair of tweezers as a tuning fork and the sort. It's very interesting.

Recently at one of my other forums, someone asked about Infrasound and how it affects people. I chimed in about the show American Paranormal on NatGeo that went to Eastern State Pen and did experiments with Infrasound. The poster also asked about any equipment, devices or the sort for measuring infrasound (anything under 20 Hz from what I understand). Someone posted this link for a free program that can measure in that range.

	http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/spectra1.html

Being the curious type and all, I downloaded it. I played with it some in my house and really am starting to like it. I'm sure there are other programs out there that can do this but I am really enjoying it. I'm really looking forward to playing with it during our next investigation (whenever that is) and see what results we get.

For those that are curious google infrasound and read up on it.

I've seen studies that vibration in the 2-3 Hz range can induce nausea, but it's tough to make sound that low because of the power required to move that much air. It requires 4 times as much air movement to create the same SPL at 10 Hz as it does at 20Hz, and it takes a pretty powerful subwoofer to make any meaningful sound at 20Hz.

I remember at one time the French Military was doing studies on a air-fed acoustical cannon that could create sound loud enough to kill at a distance, but they couldn't make it into a practical weapon.

That is a kick*** program. I have been using it since 2004 and must say that the current version is really sweet. I just installed it on my work-issued tablet pc and plan on using it portable for sub 50hz monitoring on investigation tomorrow night. Here is a screenshot from earlier tonight when I was tesing it out...

I did some testing with various tones and noticed that the internal microphone of the tablet pc suffers major attenuation rolloff at exactly 50hz, with nothing audible being displayed below that (except system noise from internal mic). My plan is to run the line out from my Sony PCM-M10 recorder into it and it should allow for accurate measurements to 20hz. Anything below that would require expensive microphone solutions. Still, very fun to play with and I highly recommend this program. So cool to see you guys using it!
