Has anyone tried using smoke during an investigation? Like using a fog machine for indoors or outdoors, maybe building a small fire if outside and then using a bright light so the camera can film. I know a lot could be contributed to matrixing but I'm wondering if anyone has tried and gotten anything.

It might be interesting to use a fog machine during an EVP session and see if it gets any results.

I haven't – but I know groups who have. I think it is an interesting idea, for sure.

The one that someone suggested to me that I think is brilliant us using that metal pin art – see if you could get an imprint…

I've had another suggest using something like a little Japanese rock garden and see if the spirit can manipulate the sand.

Wouldn't that create an awful lot of contamination, evidence-wise?

Any pictures would be sketchy and even visually it would be tough to trust your eyes.

How exactly would one use smoke in an investigation?

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.

The cheap little smoke machine I have doesn't put out much smoke. I guess you could use an incense stick as well.

What I was wondering about doing was asking the spirit to manipulate the smoke somehow. Of course make sure the room is sealed off without a draft, have fans turned off and the AC unit off. Just use video to record the smoke and see what happens. Like I said in the first post, matrixing would be a really big factor in it but it still would be something to try.

I've seen some kind of cool stuff with those plasma ball lamps – because those can be pretty easily manipulated as well – plus they provide a source of energy so IF spirit manifestation needs some type of an energy source as many theorize, the plasma lamp could provide it and be easy to manipulate – a double whammy.

We've used smoke a few times, and it doesn't work very well. Anyone's eyes can "make" them see all sorts of figures in the smoke, and unfortunately it's not controlled enough to really substantiate significant results or concrete evidence. Unless it can be controlled, and evidence is captured/experienced without the use of non-paranormal substances, then I won't consider it paranormal. Well, unless it's something crazy that jumps out of the smoke toward us like in Poltergeist!

It's just too easy to "see" a lot of "things" that are not paranormal.

Interesting, good concept though. How about strobe lights, besides the fact that they could hurt the investigators eyes, would a strobe light be useful in any way? (to see shadows and such)

A strobe is something we are experimenting with. I have a UV one that we used at our last investigation. We didn't find anything but we will keep on trying.

So far the only thing it did was make the veins in our arms light up. I need one of these on the ambulance.

We'll keep trying.

HA, yeah I guess that would be helpful when you are trying to start an IV. Here's another question…Is there anyone out there that has used a black light on investigations? Is there any relevance for using a black light?

There are some that prefer using a black light as opposed to an IR light. I've never used one unless the strobe and clip light that says it's a UV light is actually a black light.

actually, considering what Becky said, smoke almost seems like a form of scrying.

I can see that. I hadn't thought of it that way but yeah.
