I've seen this happen a lot on my own, never really thinking it was something paranormal. Good catch!

I forgot to add how this occurs naturally. When the soda is taken out of the refrigerator and starts to warm up, condensation builds up on the outside of the soda can. The moisture goes down and pools around the soda can and underneath it when it is picked up. Once it is empty the can practically weighs nothing and will sit on top of the water. Just a nudge or breeze will make the can move across the table top as if by ghostly means.

I wonder if Ghost Hunters will try this as a paranormal experience this year.

I could not agree with you more. It is the viscosity of the water allowing the can to move. Even though the can is empty it still has mass and weight. When the can is placed on the water an equilibrium has to be met because the can is pressing against the water due to gravitational forces. So the can will move until an equilibrium is met; basically the can is forcing the water out from under it. The can thereby appears to move.

I think over on the Sci-fi forums someone listed a paranormal experience they had as a soda can moving across a table by itself. This is a video I shot at home to show how this occurs and to show that it's not paranormal.

Stuff you need:

one table

one empty soda can

little bit of water

Now dip the bottom of the soda can into some water and place it on the table. Move it around just a little bit to spread the water around, not much is needed. Now pick the can up but then replace it on top of the wet spot. The can should move a little bit by it self. In the video I had to blow it some so it would show up better on the video. If the table is really smooth like a Formica surface, it will move much better.
