GhostBreakers, I believe people have been "hunting" their family members for many hundreds if not thousands of years. How far does the seance go back in history?

As for the abandoned buildings, cemetaries, etc...it seems that all those hunters are stuck in that mindset of tragic events or other emothional attachment. My house is certainly not historical (under 100 years) nor is it abandoned but there is activity here. Noted by several people other than myself. I wouldn't "hunt" it looking for family, since none of my family died here, but it is on the top of my list to have investigated.

Not to say that I have had a bad life by any measurement, and the last five years have been pretty good, but I hope that I have an all new experience after my physical body expires. If I ever decide to revisit this plane...I'll be at Two Doors Down in Maryville, TN having a cold one with the Dixie Werewolves!

I feel that after a person / spirit passes over and after they get over the intial confusion of their passing they start to have choices such as continuing "into the light" or staying in another dimension at or near certain area's that had strong emotional or traumatic feelings in their physical life. This can be as mentioned abandoned buildings, cemeteries, hospitals, certain rooms, etc. It basically comes down to, we are all different individuals in and after life and we can choose what and where we want to get attatched to.

I would think that old, abandoned buildings hold so many good and bad events that the emotions are still there long after the physical surroundings are gone.

Maybe spirits hang out at cemeteries or visit there because it is a location that has memorialized them. It is their final resting place as far as the physical body is concerned. It is probably where their family and friends paid their final respects. It's probably a place where they get visitors to their grave.

Being drawn to your old physical body might be why as well.

I can see why they might hang out there.

I think it's all a lot of bunk, the "spirits" I've seen or heard were in regular places, not necessarily abandoned ones. Not saying it can't happen though.

I wondered why? I can only come up with the answer that they are in it for the thrill or social aspect. Now, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t had a loved one or friend that has passed on so I also wondered why don’t people ghost hunt the people they knew? They have all the information they would need. They know where to go and what the persons routine was. So if they are looking to really investigate why don’t people investigate those they knew in life? Why go looking for strangers or go to places that are at best a maybe for activity?

I was just going to make the point about emotional energy when chad made it. There are places where a ton of emotional energy has been invested. I actually tend to think that residual haunts are just that - emotional energy. Intelligent hauntings - maybe if they spent time in some place where there was huge emotion involved, they get stuck in that emotion and don't know how to get out of it. I'm intelligent and I've been stuck in an emotional energy trap before.

I think emotions play a large part in a spirit getting "stuck" on the earthly plain. Emotions muddy our thought processes, so I would think it would be the same for spirits, after all we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
