Why Ghost Hunt in old abandoned buildings?

I have seen all over TV & internet of people going to cemeteries, old abandoned buildings and even paying others to use their properties so they can Ghost Hunt. I wondered why? I can only come up with the answer that they are in it for the thrill or social aspect. Now, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t had a loved one or friend that has passed on so I also wondered why don’t people ghost hunt the people they knew? They have all the information they would need. They know where to go and what the persons routine was. So if they are looking to really investigate why don’t people investigate those they knew in life? Why go looking for strangers or go to places that are at best a maybe for activity?

I Ghost Hunt for the thrill ! I have also had amazing luck with picking buildings that are very rich in history.

Researching the property and people that were associated to the same adds to the overall experience.

Ghost hunting family may be unsettling for some people. I'd imagine that some people pick abandoned buildings

because of the " creepiness" factor, of course that tactic would be flawed in the pursuit of ghosts. Often times

the everyday places yield pretty good results whereas the oldest and most historical will yield Bupkus.

Who would want to hunt family anyway unless they were in-laws maybe!

PS. Cemetary hunting should be as outlawed as hunting a baited field. IMHO

Abandoned places are good for practice. People have to start somewhere – and abandoned buildings are a great place to learn techniques, evidence gathering and review, etc. Also, abandoned places offer room for experimentation. That way you aren't experimenting with new techniques on client properties.

I've never gone to a cemetery to investigate before.

I don't have an issue with hunting in cemeteries as long as it's legal and you respect the dead. Otherwise it's a great training ground. Now as for abandoned places, some people thnk they make good haunted places. Others I don't know. It is easier to investigate an abandoned place rather than an occupied location.

Most people believe that only old locations can be haunted. When actually it doesn't matter how old the building is, it's the history and events that make a place with ghosts.

I've never understood the theory of cemeteries being haunted.

Why would a ghost chose to haunt a cemetery?I thought they haunted

either the location they died or a location of importance to them.

Same with the theory that Funeral Homes are anymore "creepy"

then a regular home. Not many people die at the Funeral Home.

I think people pick abandoned buildings for the "creep" factor.

I would guess the reason people don't "hunt" family is because

not everyone who dies becomes a ghost, so if there is no

indication that your relative is still here it seems a waste to

go "hunting" for them.

As a training tool, you are quite correct in my opinion. Cemeteries don't hold any interest for me at all. Nor do old hospitals, prisons or the like. In my opinion spirits are just people that have passed on. I don't believe that they become less intelligent nor do their desires necessarily change after death. So I can't see a spirit going back to or hanging around a place that they tried to avoid in life.

As for investigating family or friends. I would think that people would welcome the possibility of contacting a loved one instead of a stranger. You don't need an indication of one being around. That is the whole idea of HUNTING. You are looking for something. If you already knew it was there then you wouldn't need hunt it.

The belief that spirits only haunt places they died or of importance to them is an old belief that has been passed down and embraced by people as they begin their own quest for answers in the paranormal. However, I believe it is not necessarily accurate but that is another forum. lol

So if spirits are intelligent, and can chose to haunt anywhere they want,

i still ask "why would they chose the cemetery?", of all the places to

go i dont understand why something with intelligence would chose that

location.

It's the ties that bind.

We have theories that ghost haunt places or people due to some sort of binding or bonding that exist. It could be a building, an object or a person or even a piece of land. If this is true then why can't a spirit have a bond with it's body. I know I'm very fond of mine despite it's imperfections.

maybe i'm not fond enough of my body to get it /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

if i'm intelligent enough to chose where i haunt after death,

i just dont get hanging out at a cemetery. i'd want to be where

people were, where things that were important to me happened.

not sitting in a cemetery with my rotting body. not that it will

matter since i plan to be cremated /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I think emotions play a large part in a spirit getting "stuck" on the earthly plain. Emotions muddy our thought processes, so I would think it would be the same for spirits, after all we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

I was just going to make the point about emotional energy when chad made it. There are places where a ton of emotional energy has been invested. I actually tend to think that residual haunts are just that – emotional energy. Intelligent hauntings – maybe if they spent time in some place where there was huge emotion involved, they get stuck in that emotion and don't know how to get out of it. I'm intelligent and I've been stuck in an emotional energy trap before.

I would think that old, abandoned buildings hold so many good and bad events that the emotions are still there long after the physical surroundings are gone.

Maybe spirits hang out at cemeteries or visit there because it is a location that has memorialized them. It is their final resting place as far as the physical body is concerned. It is probably where their family and friends paid their final respects. It's probably a place where they get visitors to their grave.

Being drawn to your old physical body might be why as well.

I can see why they might hang out there.

As a photographer, I'd be interested in hunting in such places just because it would be visually interesting and I'd get cool shots either way… not necessarily the best argument though. lol

I think it's all a lot of bunk, the "spirits" I've seen or heard were in regular places, not necessarily abandoned ones. Not saying it can't happen though.

I feel that after a person / spirit passes over and after they get over the intial confusion of their passing they start to have choices such as continuing "into the light" or staying in another dimension at or near certain area's that had strong emotional or traumatic feelings in their physical life. This can be as mentioned abandoned buildings, cemeteries, hospitals, certain rooms, etc. It basically comes down to, we are all different individuals in and after life and we can choose what and where we want to get attatched to.

Maybe you and I are still in a dream and have not yet awakened....As we speak now, we do not know whether we are awake or dreaming / Chuang Tzu
