Discuss.

Orbs to me are not paranormal. Of all the pictures I've seen of reported paranormal orbs, all of there could be ruled out as either dust, pollen, water droplets, frozen water droplets, insects, lens flare or other normal explanations. On my groups site under evidence I even have a little sign that we don't consider orbs as evidence. I've lost count at the number of groups in my area that use orbs as evidence of the paranormal.

So I'm interested to see if others agree or disagree. Plus if you have any pictures post them.

I've never believed orbs are paranormal. I laugh at some of the things

I've seen people claim about orbs. I was at a site where someone claimed

to know WHO the orb was and followed them around taking their pic. And

I havent seen the episode yet, but I guess a recent epi of My Ghost Story

has a guy claiming an orb is a pregnant orb (sharon tate and her baby).

I don't believe in orbs at all. To me, that's really reaching for some type of paranormal evidence.

I especially think it's hysterical when someone says an orb has a face in it….. /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I agree- all of what people refer to as "orbs" in photos and video is dust, bugs, ect.

However, I have had orb experiences that are nothing like what is typically thought of as an orb. I've found others online and in my personal life who have witness similar experiences as I have. I won't even bother explaining them because I know that the consensus from most on this topic is that I'm wrong. All I can say is that a friend of mine who happens to be the biggest non-believer I've ever met(no ghosts, no god, no nothin'), still gets angry that he can't explain or debunk the "orbs" that even he has witnessed with his own eyes on my property. I mean, maybe there is an reasonable explanation for them- but whatever it may be, it's yet to be discovered.

Jilla, is there any chance it's some kind of natural phenomena?

While I dont believe all orbs are paranormal I do believe that some can be. If all you get is a few orbs, I dont think you should be saying "Ah see its haunted" because thats not proof. And most orbs anyone can look and go dust, reflection, etc. I have seen some though that look nothing like anything like dust or anything "normal" and have not been able to be explained away. Those I think MAY be something. But again, they are just interesting nothing to say ok location haunted. I think they are helpful if you have these unexplained orbs AS WELL as other evidence. Besides that they are just interesting and should not be the hinge all.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..

Hey HeidiAnn- I guess there's always a possibility- but the experience that goes along with these orbs leads me even more to believe they're not just a natural phenomenon.

For an example, I guess I'll give my own little ghost story.

There is an old graveyard in a very nearby town that has several torrid stories that go along with it. From a never identified thief to a drowning in the on site pond. The cemetery's set up is similar to old European style cemeteries- very park like and made with the intent of people to walk, sit and "enjoy" the view. One night, my fiance(now husband), two friends, and I were hanging out at my house when we came up with the genius idea to go to said cemetery and see what we could find. My one friend and I who always lived in this area decided we just HAD to go see the grave of the unknown would have been thief.

Not sure if you've ever read some of my other posts, but I'm a very reluctant sensitive- as is my friend. I've even been approached out of the blue by 'psychics' telling me that I should try and be more comfortable with 'my gift'. To me, when it came to getting evidence, I only used my gift to try and find the 'proof'. My sensitivity to the paranormal isn't proof, and I get that. My friend is the same way.

Anywho- we went right to the grave site, and my friend and I got out- my husband and male friend were sheepishly waiting in the car. My friend and I both instantly felt a wall of oppression, looked at each other and decided- wow, maybe this wasn't a good idea after all. The guys were just scared, because, well, they're babies.

We decided to leave, got into the car(my fiance driving) and proceeded to leave. Only we kept hearing a knocking in the car. We stopped. It stopped. We drove, it started again. Clearly- a branch-or so we hoped. My fiance stopped again. It stopped. Then it started again while we were still not moving. We were out of the cemetery on a side road when my fiance pulled over and decided to find this "branch" it just had to be- even though I knew something else was going on. He looked under the car, said he "saw something". My friend got out to help because her cell phone has a flashlight feature on it. She started getting down to help him- he said again before she got there "I see something, but it's not a branch….it's round, like a ball…" My friend shined the light in the direction under the car that he thought he saw whatever it was- they were silent and then they both gasped & screamed, got in the car pale as I've ever seen either of them and we drove off- no more "knocking". We finally stopped in a nearby parking lot and they told us what they saw. It was a brownish orb- like a round ball of moving smoke. It moved "sentiently" as they described it under the car, reacting to the light, only to roll away into the woods, like "nothing they had ever seen".

This also wasn't the last time something followed me home from this cemetery- and it wasn't the first time I'd experienced what they described.

There was a very oppressed spirit on my property that would reveal himself in this form, only larger- but the same brownish smokey orb, rolling through the air and on the ground on my property- this is a phenomena that many have witnessed at my home, which is a very different location than this cemetery. Many smell what they describe as "death" when they see it. I tried to deal with it awhile ago and am pretty sure he's left.

Maybe it can be explained without it being a spirit- but the sensitive side of me says "nope, that's an entity". I don't ever have good feelings when it's that brownish orb. So, take it for what it's worth. A good story or good insight. Or a bad story or bad insight. lol

I don't think you can rule out every single orb as non-paranormal; however, the percentage of maybes is miniscule in my opinion. 99.99999% of the time, there is a logical explanation. That being said, I haven't come across orbs yet that I feel are in that .000001%. I just think that they are probably out there.

Neither am I. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I'm not sure if were talking optical orbs, or orbs people see with their eyes.

I find the latter more interesting.

An EOS Pro SLR, clears up the orbs. I think digital cameras are the worst for this, their orb collectors.

They are small and compact, thus producing more orbs. Seems an orb frenzy since their invention.

I think a good SLR is worth is weight in gold for paranormal investigation, but just me. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

'Tis true. I've never gotten an orb on my SLR. Just a sharp, clear picture.

Now I have seen some actual physical orbs. Who knows what those puppies are. I've never attempted to photograph them, though.

Just for clarification, I'm only referring to orbs captured in photos or videos. I've never had a chance to see one myself in person.

Ahhh….for the most part, I think there is too much doubt about what it could be – and when in doubt, throw it out…

Most if not all orbs in photos and video are reflective in nature. Flash or IR illumination give these otherwise invisible particulate matter something to reflect, and we get tons of orbs. Video orbs are the same thing, just in motion. Anytime something breaks the afocal boundary it will look like an orb/streak/light.

I find orbs impressive if the self-illuminate.

I've seen one in person once at home. It floated down the hallway near the baseboard and was about the size of a grapefruit and it sorta bounced like a lazy balloon. I stared at it for several seconds and then it disappeared.

Eh, I got nothin'

I pulled this off at one of the taps forums. It's a compiled picture of different bugs as seen as orbs. It makes a good reference guide.

I think most orbs in photos are not paranormal, heck i looked at old photgraphs taken at randowm, and you can see "orbs" all threw them, clearly dust, light anomolies, etc…..

Yeah I saw that episode of My Ghost Story where the guy was saying that Tate was haunting his home, the same guy and place that TAPS went to….i almost choked on my milk when I heard him claim a photo he took was OBVIOUSLY her as the orb was an orb inside an orb, a pregnant orb if you will, so it was most definitely her….I think the dude was trying to prolong his 15 minutes….He was so serious and matter of fact too….I think (or at least maybe obvious to me) that he was trying to set his home up as haunted for monetary gain to either sell or pay-to-hunt site….IMO

OK, here goes another personal experience. I believe I've talked about it on another thread here on PUG.

When my daughter was a baby, I awoke on several different occasions to see some type of orb/energy light over her crib. It seemed to have intelligence. It was bigger than a bug.

/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

If we're talking about smaller orbs captured on tape/film … sure, I do think it is possible for them to contain spirit energy. Personal opinion.

For what it's worth, I've seen almost identical anomalies as you've described over the years. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've read this story before and answered the same there, too /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

And I agree…I believe spirits can be caught on film or even digitally. I just think that those are the exception to the rule.
