That's a good question. I've wondered something similar. What about events in the Bible like Moses (I think it was him...) that parted the sea, and people being healed, etc. Couldn't those be considered paranormal? I mean, if events like that really happened they certainly aren't normal. Which makes me wonder how people can believe in that stuff, but not what we call the paranormal now. (Not trying to judge, I just don't understand.)

there are 3 cases of the red sea being parted, once by Moses, another by Joseph and another by a pharaoh of the 4th dynasty, Snefru I think. That one was written in stone.

Though Moses is only mentioned in the bible to which my understanding that his name was stricken from language in Egypt however Joseph was documented as an advisor in Egypt and assisted on the development of advanced grain storage.

Now don't quote me on this but the Snefru thing happened as one of his wives had lost a necklace in the water that made her unhappy. Snefru not liking this parted the sea for its recovery.

Absolutely it would make it paranormal considering that such events of the time had no scientific recording or documents. However according to the direction that much of the paranormal investigations are heading, there stand s a slight chance that scientific evidence just may find a correlation to perhaps that such a being may exist.

Exactly. These are beliefs, which people all too often get mixed up with facts. Just because someone has believed something for a long time does not make it fact. Proof would be nice, all around.

I wonder, has he spoken of the paranormal specifically?

I'd imagine he could link his ideas of the emergence of new age mythology with the popularity of ancestor worship in past cultures.

Would he compare the pursuit of ghosts to Don Quixote, and the modern gadgets used with the superstitious belief in the power of talismans?

I remember he has said he does not partake in the belief of a deity, despite of, or perhaps because of his vast knowledge of the subject.

	I think it's a really good question, 'T.Verne'.

Let me preface this thread with a statement.

I mean no disrespect to anyone by my thoughts here. I pose this question out of sheer curiosity about what other's thoughts and opinions are.

According to dictionary.com, the definition of paranormal is as follows: of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, as psychokinesis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena.

Under that definition, wouldn't GOD be considered a paranormal phenomena and not a spiritual one?

	"without scientific explanation" - Check

	"extrasensory perception" - Check

I suppose that there are those that consider ghosts to be a spiritual phenomena rather than a paranormal one.

I'm just asking for thoughts and opinions about this topic. I'd appreciate any candid feedback you are willing to give me. Thanks.

I think paranormal is a general term for unexplained physical phenomena. Does the meaning of the word not already imply a potential for spiritual significance?

You're correct in that most would think that god is trivialized when put in this light. Although believers may not be comfortable with going there, I think it's a duty of the believer to think of all the possibilites, no matter what.
