Let me preface this thread with a statement.

I mean no disrespect to anyone by my thoughts here. I pose this question out of sheer curiosity about what other's thoughts and opinions are.

According to dictionary.com, the definition of paranormal is as follows: of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, as psychokinesis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena.

Under that definition, wouldn't GOD be considered a paranormal phenomena and not a spiritual one?

"without scientific explanation" – Check

"extrasensory perception" – Check

I suppose that there are those that consider ghosts to be a spiritual phenomena rather than a paranormal one.

I'm just asking for thoughts and opinions about this topic. I'd appreciate any candid feedback you are willing to give me. Thanks.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.

That's a good question. I've wondered something similar. What about events in the Bible like Moses (I think it was him…) that parted the sea, and people being healed, etc. Couldn't those be considered paranormal? I mean, if events like that really happened they certainly aren't normal. Which makes me wonder how people can believe in that stuff, but not what we call the paranormal now. (Not trying to judge, I just don't understand.)

I would absolutely call those sort of events paranormal. People call them miracles, but if we see lights flying around in the sky now, we call it UFOs. Back then, it's a miracle of some sort.

Thanks for the reply Sammaine

Wouldn't God technically be Preternatural?

I've certainly heard God labeled as both paranormal and as a superstition.

Wouldn't God technically be Preternatural?

Preternatural:

1. out of the ordinary course of nature; exceptional or abnormal: preternatural powers. 2. outside of nature; supernatural.

Sure, by those definitions. However, it would still make God a supernatural phenomena, not a spiritual one.

Well, considering "he" "it" "whatever" formed the earth, created humans, had a son die for him, forgives everyone, and offers free will…

That all sounds pretty phenomenal.

Well, sure. But other than the forgiving part, all of the other stuff is NOT spiritual. It's magic tricks.

See what I'm getting at here?

Your whole question requires thought. I think most people who believe put gods exsistance above paranormal. Admitting that god may be in the paranormal spectrum, in some sort of way, trivializes god. It's a place most believers aren't comfortable going. Of course you are 100% correct in your line of thought. Fancy that!! Thank you for a thought provoking question.

You're correct in that most would think that god is trivialized when put in this light. Although believers may not be comfortable with going there, I think it's a duty of the believer to think of all the possibilites, no matter what.

I think paranormal is a general term for unexplained physical phenomena. Does the meaning of the word not already imply a potential for spiritual significance?

Under that definition, wouldn't GOD be considered a paranormal phenomena and not a spiritual one?

Technically Heidi without donation you did not create life. It takes "two" to concieve.

As related by the Bible, I believe that God created man from dust and by himself and transfered

life through his breath. So as for God being paranormal, absolutely, as for procreation placing

womankind in that realm, not so much. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />
