I had someone on Facebook message me asking to donate to a cause. The cause was for a so called paranormal group wanting a thermal imager. Now they are only asking for $1 from each person but I was wondering what people think about this?

I don't begrudge anyone receiving donations but for some reason this rubbed me the wrong way.

Here is their group bio statement on their page…Check them out for yourself. Click anywhere.

(their name) is a nonprofit ghost hunting organization. We pay for our own equipment, travel, and advertising. We never ask for money from clients or make people pay to become a member. We are trying to get a new thermal camera to advance the type of evidence we get for our clients and for the field. But as many of you know this equipment is very expensive. So here is our experiment to obtain this device. With your help we can achieve our goal. Thank you for your donation. Only people serious about donating a dollar should join this group.. Thank you.

I'm all for helping people out but that is what work is for. I say this not to be stingy but that to me is a laughable attempt at getting something for free that is not needed. It is the cyber equivalent of standing on a corner with a tin cup /angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I might be lying, but I'm telling the truth

Agreed – this type of solicitation is not appropriate to me, but hey – whatever they feel comfy with I guess.

They aren't getting my buck.

Seems highly inappropriate. They won't ask for money from people that they are providing a service to (not that I'm saying they should), but they'll ask for it from strangers? Eh, seems shady to me.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

I don't really have a problem with this type of thing, however, I'm not sure Facebook is the appropriate place for it. It might be better suited on their Website.

spot on. the web page would seem much more appropriate. but they prolly figure they'll get more hits on facebook. it leaves a bad taste by posting there tho, imho.
