As a rule, we don't ask this question, not even hint at it. I wrote an article a while back about it, kind of joking along the lines of packing up all your gear, travelling hours to get to a place, setting everything up - then you ask this question & get a 'yes' response...

Each and every case is different. Sometimes you got to try something different to get results. I have to say I was surprised at our last investigation since we got 3 times more evidence than the first time there. I don't know if the spirits there were getting familiar with us or if we were getting familiar with them. Plus we went in more relaxed then the previous time.

I would think that getting familiar with the spirits or vice versa would be a good thing. If you are more comfortable around them, they'll be more comfortable around you. Seems like a good strategy.

We've tried it to a small degree a few times and never noticed a change. But for the most part I leave it as a last resort.

I can see that. I suppose some ghost are cantankerous enough without riling them up.

One of the problems is that most of the time we don't know of the response until we listen to the audio after the investigation is over. So if you ask the spirit if they want us to leave and they give us a resounding "No" but we don't hear it till afterwards, I don't think the spirit will trust us if we go back. So once again why put yourself in that position. Just keep with basic questions and wait 20-30 seconds between them.

What about deliberately provoking a spirit to make it mad? Yay or Nay?

I know that many here are actual investigators of the paranormal. When doing investigations, do you actually ask if the ghost wants you to leave?

And if you happen to get a response, and they say yes, do you leave?

It seems to me that if you got a response at all, even one that told you to leave, it would warrant some more investigation, not leaving. I understand respecting the ghost's house, but aren't you there to get answers? How can you get those answers if you leave?

I go with Ryan on this. Why put yourself in that postion, your there to investigate.

I would also try to be as quiet as I can. I would do more listening, than talking or asking.

If spirits are there in a location, I question what they are aware of, us.

Do they even understand our world of the living, or aware of what's around them. I would try to go into their world, observe and listen for some trace of theirs, to understand. I've always viewed this as putting this as putting the cart before the horse, imo.
