thats how I feel, remembering the long name can be challenging, but remembering an acronym is so much easier. why not?

This will likely ruffle some feathers, but after perusing the internet lately, I have to ask. Has the use (or overuse) of group acronyms become just plain silly and absurd? I realize that there are many long-lasting groups out there that have an acronym name, and yes, I belong to just such a group. It would be a hassle to change the name now, as our name is established, and alas, that one is not my decision to make.

I just think that with the emergence of silly named groups such as C.R.A.P.S., P.I.M.P.S., P.I.S.T., O.K.R.A.P., S.P.I.T., S.P.L.A.T., N.I.P.S., and so on, that the decision to make a group name based on an acronym might just be outdated. I remember back in the day it was sort of clever to have a witty acronym, but it seems these days it's more of an exercise in the silly than the witty. It seems that in an attempt to name their group as something different than the thousands of (mostly non-active) myspace groups out there, the acronyms are getting long, silly, and sometimes not very politically correct.

	Just an observation...Thoughts?

It's hard to come up with some of them. When I was trying to create the name of our team I had certain requirements for it like Central Texas had to be in it. I took me about a month to come up and accept PICT. It's actually a name of an ancient Scottish or Irish (can't remember) tribe.

I would loved to have lived in South Texas that way I could use GHOST (Ghost Hunters of South Texas) but alas I don't speak Spanish.

I agree. I keep seeing these acronyms out there, and it makes me wonder how anyone can take them seriously with such silly ones. I know my groups name (IPIS) could be seen as one of these silly acronyms I suppose, but we didn't do that intentionly and we usually say the letters, not what it sounds like (I p*ss). But like I said we didn't sit down and say "Ok, what acronym would be the funniest?" or something like that. But some of them you look at and you can just tell they were trying to make it funny or silly or whatever, and I think it really just makes them look unprofessional.
