What do you think? Do we only have three years left?

I blogged about it. Let's discuss.

Doomsday, huh? I've been around a while, and I can recall quite a number of "end of the world" predictions, and as far as I am aware, none have come to pass. The 2012 predictions are a bit more compelling than some of the others, but I'm still confident that Dec 22, 2012 will arrive (for most of us) just as surely as each preceding day.

But I have to wonder: if Dec 21, 2012 is the end of the world, who really cares?

Interesting: While at University I read a study. I wish I could find it to sight it properly. It was a survey that purported to ask questions about life style: what kind of food do you like, what is your favorite sport, stuff like that. Hidden in the survey were cleverly constructed questions designed to determine peoples view of their existence. One result I found interesting was that while a huge percentage did not believe in life after death, their answer to questions indicated that they expected some sense of awareness of, and perhaps influence on worldly matters after they had passed. I always wondered if that meant that people, though they might outwardly reject life after death, secretly believe it, or if there was, unknown to them, an innate awareness of something more than our physical existence.

Maybe we'll all have the answer in 2012.

If 2012 were the end. What if anything could be done about it? I, for one, enjoy this world

with all of it's good parts and bad. All in all I'd have to say that this world is a great place to

have to respire. Isn't it an in-bred survival pattern that is programmed into healthy minds

that makes us hope that such an event isn't possible? Don't we at least igjnore our own mortality

to the exclusion of our own well being? For example…..how many smokers hasten their end and feebly

justify away their own reality? I don't think the end scares mankind until it is at hand. I also believe that

this mindset is in-bred much as the survival instinct. The only conclusion I can draw from that, is that, it is there

to stop, ease or pacify any anxiety that such an event would create. Just my opinion and it is probably

off on several levels but it seems to make sense to me.

I don't believe the world is going to end on 2012, but there is going to be a change. Maybe not on that particular date but around that period. It will be what will be called the Golden age & will be a period

of enlightenment & highly evolved thinking. I don't see it as a "doomsday" forecast & the ppl who are prepared now will survive.

I believe that something will happen, whether in 2012 or whether it only starts then, I don't know. But i definitely think something is coming. As far as the end of the world, I think it's more of the end of the world as we know it.

Well, if the world does end in 2012 at least then we wont have to worry

about reaching the unreachable goal as set forth by No Child Left Behind

of 100% Proficiency in Reading and Writing /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

can you tell i work in education?

LOL Heidi!

I agree Sammaine … I think it's probably the start of something new, not a doomsday scenario.

Welcome BTW!

I don't see it as anything significant happening. Where is the proof? At best there is guessing because a Mayan/*tec calendar denotes the end of an age, likely a celestial age, such as the Age of Aquarius for us (they would have their own constellations or some other astrological clock obviously). Furthermore, didn't that civilization think that they were constantly on the brink of the end of the world?

I agree, as I stated above. Supposed to be an age of enlightenment.

Oh Heidi – I am so with you on this. In Washington, the testing that has resulted from the Every Child Left Behind Act has been insane and extremely costly. Not that I am against kids meeting standards – just that when the teachers spend every year teaching to a test that the kids will take in April – I dunno – I feel that limits a lot of learning that could be taking place when opportunities for learning arise that are outside of the standard curriculum.

Oh – and also I believe that 2012 will be a kick a$$ movie because that's what my husband and kids say. Wait -that's what we were talking about, right?? /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I should have added that unattainable goal of 100% proficiency is set for 2014…

to me THAT will be Doomsday /dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

There is no proof as to anything significant happening around 2012, as is the case for much of what we talk about here. My opinion is based on my own thoughts coupled with conversations I've had with different people in the spiritual/paranormal field.

Right, but what is their proof/evidence then? Just because of one calendar based on an astrological event? I mean really there is so many different ways for this to be taken that I just don't understand how so many can just jump to the conclusion that the world is ending in one way or another. Didn't people think the same thing when Earth passed through Haley's Comet's tail? Or more recently, what about Y2K?

Of course you are entitled to your opinion and I didn't mean to say otherwise. But from what I've gathered (and undoubtedly its less information than you have) I just don't see the evidence. The Mayan's/*tecs themselves didn't even see the end of the world being in 2012, so how can we study their own devices and glean the same thing without really even understanding it as well as the inventor's themselves?

The people I'm referring to are not necessarily talking about the Mayan calendar. They are talking about a global shift of consciousness or awareness in the future. Maybe around 2012, maybe sooner, maybe later.

There is no evidence that can prove the future . . . that I know of.

My opinion is that I have no idea what will happen in 2012. LOL

I do think that we are moving toward a new level of awareness or consciousness that will change our future. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Alright, what is pointing to a global shift of consciousness around 2012? You see where I'm going with this? I just think people are believing, simply because they want to believe this stuff.

I do see where you're going with this Zaxxon. I have no proof to support my statement, and you can label it wishful thinking on my part. I'm OK with that. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
