OfflineSo I sent this email this morning to the FDA……

To: CDER DRUG INFO
Subject: Actos
One of the medications I’m required to take daily, Actos, is listed as a “product of Japan”. I’m not sure whether that means it’s produced there or not, but to my knowledge there is no generic available. My question is this, could future supplies of this medication be contaminated by the radiation situation they’re experiencing right now? Naturally I’m also concerned about an interruption in the availability as well.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Monk
And guess what? They just responded to me….
Dear Monk,
Thank you for writing to the Division of Drug Information in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
At this point in time, FDA does not have any evidence indicating that drugs manufactured in Japan have been affected by the radiation. If, in the future, if we do discover such a finding, we will take measures to protect the public from contamination.
FDA is very concerned about shortages of medically necessary drug products and takes all steps within our authority to help prevent or alleviate shortage situations. CDER follows procedures for addressing drug shortages or potential shortages, including those that may be caused by regulatory actions. FDA always works to avoid or minimize shortages of medically necessary drugs which would have impact on patients. CDER's Drug Shortages Program (DSP) works with pharmaceutical manufacturers, review divisions, the Office of Compliance and other components of FDA to manage product shortages. DSP receives regular updates from the manufacturers of products facing shortage situations and posts information on the FDA Drug Shortage website (http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugS…..efault.htm.) The DSP is available for direct contact by e-mail at drugshortages@fda.hhs.gov, and can assist concerned citizens, legislators and staffers, and other stakeholders with questions or concerns related to drug shortages.
Best regards,

I was sure this would be the LAST party I'd hear from if I heard from them at all, color me stunned. Of course they're probably using left over Chernobyl geiger counters…. /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

OfflineWell we received our instructions, if Congress doesn't reach a compromise by midnight tonight then I will be furloughed-no work, no pay until the budget is resolved. My husband fared better and will get to go to work but no pay until the budget passes. He would at least get paid eventually/ retroactively once everything is resolved. We are a couple months ahead on bills so I know it will be ok. It is just cruddy to have your livelihood messed with. I met with Soldiers today who are only going to receive a half weeks pay and then nothing until budget is resolved. Messing with our active duty service members pay, now that is beyond unconscionable (sp?). This has been a very stressful day. If the Cantina opens I would like a White Russian, please. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

I'm buying. This whole situation sucks. We have got to start making some cuts, but it really stinks that they can't come to an agreement like grown ups. I really wish our President was trying to facilitate a deal instead of off on vacation.
It is just ridiculous that the budget wasn't passed when it was due in October. I hate when politicians put elections ahead of doing what they are paid to do. We need statesmen, not politicians. Grrrr. Where are the Thomas Jeffersons and James Madisons today?
Hang in there. We're thinking of you. Remember, when the Cantina opens, drinks are on me.

I may call it a night so have a few for me. Pretty sure the prez is still in DC; agree about not passing the budget last fall; hmm, Jefferson and Madison- perhaps they can join Dolly Madison's ghost and get something done before midnight! Thanks, Kat.

Milo sorry to hear this. It's a shame these wankers lack of doing their job and the hardship it takes on eveyone else.

What a difference a day makes. I tried to go to bed but ended up turning on CNN in hopes "these wankers" would work it out. Let's hear it for the wankers! Funny how the Planned Parenthood issue seems to be the sticking point. Let's hope we can find a compromise that both sides can agree on by Thursday. Bonus good news from yesterday: the Red Sox FINALLY had a win (super sweet that it was the Stankees and that it was at Fenway). No offense to NY fans, but it just feels so good. /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
OfflineAnother day, another outrage.
California tax payers, you might want to check out this story.
WTH does this have to do with education?

OfflineDoes anyone else think there's something fishy about this news story? I find it incredible that a 25 year old brother would watch his sister be dragged away by an intruder without trying to stop him. Am I alone?

I wonder if the brother is involved in the home invasion/kidnapping. I didn't see that there was a ransom. Hope they find her safe and sound.

Me too. She's only 20.
I suspect the brother, too. I just cannot imagine a brother watching his sister be kidnapped and not running to help her. My brothers would have dragged him into the woods and beaten him to death. The police would be looking for the intruder's body. I'd do the same for them, too.
It's all very strange. Poor girl.

OfflineHas anyone else been following the Chrissy Polis story? She's the trans gender woman who was beaten into a seizure at a McDonald's in Rosedale, Md. I don't know which is more upsetting, the fact that she was beaten so badly or the fact that only one person came to her aid – a 55 year old woman with a bad back who got punched in the face for her effort. No one came to her aid, either. In fact, one of the staff asked her if she was aware that the victim was really a man. Naturally (to me) her response was pretty much what difference does that make??? Meanwhile, an employee was filming the whole thing and laughing like a hyena through it all.
I am absolutely heartsick over this story. I truly don't know what is happening to our country when people can laugh about someone being repeatedly kicked in the head and dragged around by her hair instead of coming to her aid. One of the attackers is only 14 years old. The other assailant is only 18, but she was arrested for an assault at the same McDonald's last summer.
People being beaten on buses, people being beaten on trains, people being beaten in stations. In all of these cases, no one comes to their aid. It's so depressing!
WTH is wrong with people? Seriously, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I agree with you KK……this country is soooo screwed up it's unbelievable. And as far as I'm concerned…it still has to do with what, or what is NOT, being taught in the home. It seems like hardly anyone has morals, or compassion, or respect for people or property, or their country…….it just makes me sick. How about the father who was egging his under-aged son on in a fight??? Thank goodness the father was charged with child abuse…….great role model he is.

When people can sit behind computer screens and say some of the crap they say to one another and pull some of the mean-spirited stuff they do, of course that is going to manifest in the real world, as well. We've become a society that is disconnected from one another, and in general utterly lacking in compassion. Not all of us, but a lot of us. Cruelty to many is now a joke.

That's awful. I don't even have words to express my outrage. Sheesh.

So very true, Karen.

I've actually seen the entire video, apparently it's the one that the McDonald's employee shot and promptly posted. I saw it through a european server on another website and to say it was disturbing would be a mild understatement. The closest thing I can compare it to would be a shark attack in the wild. Like if a shark takes a chunk out of some prey but doesn't finish it off. The poor victim is in shock and floundering around when the shark sweeps back in to finish off the job in a brutal fury. THAT'S WHAT THIS WAS LIKE. These two "girls" are just stomping the crap out of the other in the back of the restaurant beating on her something fierce. The store manager comes over a couple of times and half heartedly "shoos" them away. It's like a scene out of the WWF while the referee has his back turned the other tag team partner sneaks back and keeps doling out the pain. He manages to get them both away from her but she's laying there dazed when they come back and attempt to finish the job, they keep beating on her and dragging her by her hair through the store, the whole time dealing out blows to the head and body, there's hunks of hair all over the place and blood. When the old lady tries to intervene they turn on her. It looks like they were trying to get her outside where god only know what would've happened. But yeah the guy filming it actually gets a great shot of one of these maniacs plain as day and tells them to get away cause the cops are coming. As it was the girl is caught in the door frame having seizures that are wracking her entire body in a pool of blood. Supposedly the store manager or one of the employees told the old lady that the stompee had a bit of a mouth on her (ie: inferring she deserved the beating).
I'm not even going to bring race or the transgender issue up here, the savagery of the act speaks for itself and is documented on film. McDonald's is going to say that it's not their responsibility to ensure the safety of the customers, if this is in fact the route they take, there should be a nation wide boycott of their business and the media should really burn them good. One of the girls involved apparently has a history of this kind of behavior at the same location, how she's even allowed in the front door is beyond me.
Sad times we live in but the book she be thrown at both of them. The 14 year old should be tried as an adult. Apparently the information age has failed to reach vast pockets of the population here in the states.

OfflineMonk, I agree with you that the 14 year old should be tried as an adult. Adult actions should be judged accordingly.
I also agree that if McDonald's says it's not their responsibility, they should be killed in the media and boycotted by the customers they choose not to protect. How disgraceful.
