Sara Bareilles – King of Anything

Keep drinking coffee, stare me down across the table

While I look outside

So many things I’d say if only I were able

But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass by

You’ve got opinions, man

We’re all entitled to ‘em, but I never asked

So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste anymore of mine

And get out of here fast

I hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning

There’s no one here to save

Who cares if you disagree?

You are not me

Who made you king of anything?

So you dare tell me who to be?

Who died and made you king of anything?

You sound so innocent, all full of good intent

Swear you know best

But you expect me to jump up on board with you

And ride off into your delusional sunset

I’m not the one who’s lost with no direction

But you’ll never see

You’re so busy making maps with my name on them in all caps

You got the talking down, just not the listening

And who cares if you disagree?

You are not me

Who made you king of anything?

So you dare tell me who to be?

Who died and made you king of anything?

All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy

While I just hurt and hide

Waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decide

Who cares if you disagree?

You are not me

Who made you king of anything?

So you dare tell me who to be?

Who died and made you king of anything?

Who cares if you disagree?

You are not me

Who made you king of anything?

So you dare tell me who to be?

Who died and made you king of anything?

Let me hold your crown, babe

Song Information

“‘King of Anything’ is sort of a ‘f**k you’ song,” jokes Bareilles. “I’ve had more unsolicited advice on my life than I care to mention, and this was how I dealt with it. It felt empowering to turn that frustration into music, especially a song that doesn’t even sound angry. That’s sort of what ‘Love Song’ was as well. Apparently, I don’t get over things very quickly.”

I love this song!

Lately I've been listening to some really eclectic stuff….among them…

I recommend them all but do some research on them first or contact me for an in depth review before purchasing as they're not for everyone.

I've never heard it before but I think it may be a new favorite. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

It surprises me that you love this song, Milo. You obviously have a side of your personality that we haven't seen yet. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm listening to James Taylor and Mary Chapin Carpenter because I really need to mellow out today. REALLY need to mellow out, in fact. /sleep.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We all have one or two of these "kings" in our lives, be it at work, home or wherever. Best to sing it out loud and proud with the likes of Sara Barellilles driving down the road!

vcon and I are on the same wavelength today. I've got REM's "It's the End of the World" stuck in my head. Don't know why.

Just found this song and it made my day. I want the first line on my doormat. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Josh Thompson – Way Out Here

Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun

And you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son

Our necks are burnt, our roads are dirt and our trucks ain't clean

The dogs run loose, we smoke, we chew and fry everything

Out here, way out here

(Chorus)

We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it

When it comes to weight brother we pull our own

If it's our backwoods way of livin' you're concerned with

You can leave us alone

We're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere

Way out here

We got a fightin' side a mile wide but we pray for peace

'Cause it's mostly us that end up servin' overseas

If it was up to me I'd love to see this country run

Like it used to be, oughta be, just like it's done

Out here, way out here

(Chorus)

We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it

When it comes to weight brother we pull our own

If it's our backwoods way of livin' you're concerned with

You can leave us alone

We're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere

Way out here

We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it

When it comes to weight brother we pull our own

If it's our backwoods way of livin' you're concerned with

You can leave us alone

We're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere

Way out here, way out here

Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun

And you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son
