It was sort of a draw. My SIL was too busy to engage us beyond, and I kid you not, a comment to my wife.

"I didn't remember your English being this good! How good for you!!"

I don't know how my wife refrained from pouring her wine over the beyotch's head.

The response to which would've been "Gee, I don't remember you being this classless, guess we both learned something today"!…..oh is this NOT THAT THREAD…my bad!

I had an SIL like this once and the sad part about it was that my brother suffered tremendously because of her. The holiday invitations to go anywhere or do anything w/the rest of our family disappeared really quickly. The final straw came when they invited our mother to their house for Christmas morning and they wound up having two "parties" under the same roof, her entire family in the kitchen whooping it up and my Mom and I sitting in the living room by ourselves after the grand-daughters made fun of the gifts we gave them in front of everyone! Since she raised my brother's two daughters like wolves, this is not shocking behavior either, just the norm. Mercifully, he divorced her and went his own way, but like herpes and luggage, the ex never completely goes away. Sadly, due to a lifetime of poor form and bad behavior, we still don't communicate w/his children as they've not changed and think it's our problem and not theirs. Oh well, no skin off my nose, but the family was thrilled beyond belief to get my brother back in the fold.

My SIL is not only classless but clueless. A few years ago, just after I was divorced, I held a birthday party for my old man. We were grilling and drinking and the subject came up about the pyramids in the Mexican Yucatan and beyond. My SIL chimed in, something about how such architecture seemed out of the scope of such a "backwards" culture. This from the lips of a woman with an advanced degree. My old man, only a high school graduate, but a veteran of WWII, suggested that she visit the library and research things a bit more in depth.

She must have skipped the ancient history course in college. LOL

Sounds more like she missed the "close the verbal diarrhea valve" class to me. What a frightening person! My condolences Dawkins, some people just can't be saved. Their ignorance and arrogance is the rope they'll ultimately strangle on somewhere down the line!

Too bad there isn't a vaccine for ignorance.

I am in migraine hell. Hoping that the meds will take effect soon. Probably didn't help that while it was coming on, I spent a few hours in a gymnasium full of middle school students on the last day of school.

I'm sorry to hear this. I had a three-day migraine once and I swore if I had a gun, I would use it on myself after all that time.

Sounds like you got the meds. Now, you need a dark room and quiet. I hope you can get that.

Thanks Carolyn – better today. Had a migraine "hangover" – but took a half of a migraine med and I think I will live – I feel human for the first time in three days. Thank goodness Jim blogged for me this morning. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hot date with the hubby tonight – dinner, classical music concert. Yay!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. And, just in time for what sounds like a fun evening! Enjoy!

I'm working. It will be another Saturday night in Gettysburg in the early summer months. Hot, tired tourists who want it all. Hopefully, they will behave themselves.

Now the boys, on the other hand, can act out all they like! That's when the real fun begins! Come on boys. You have been too quiet of late! (Hoping I'm not asking for trouble!)

Here's something funny. At a family party, my brother was going off about a turkey breast he had smoked. While it was delicious, my older daughter suggested the two of us have a throw-down smoke, head to head. She rather likes the results of my barbeque, and often assists. My SIL replied to the idea: "John, they don't go out to eat as often as we do, he has more experience."

She meant it as a shot, but it made my family laugh on the drive home.
