Howdy folks, sorry I was away for a bit. Did anyone notice? Anywho, been busy and it's only going to get worse. So let's recap really quick. My spousal unit is pregnant, about 19 weeks along now. We just found out Wednesday that we are going to have another boy. This will make three boys. Second, I was recently asked by my old volunteer fire department to come out of retirement and be the fire chief. I accepted for now so I've been back doing that for about a month now. Third, pending a psych eval that I take next Tuesday morning, I'm in the police academy. Academy will be 19 weeks long and starts on July 25th. Still trying to catch my breath and all but I figured I would pop in and let everyone know what is going on.

I can't wait for Christmas now.

Wow, Wow and Wow.

Congrats!

Quick question…now that you are taking over as a Fire Chief (volunteer) AND will be a police officer…Will you start a fight with yourself over who has jurisdiction on a particular scene? Yourself as a firefighter or yourself as a police officer? /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Anyhow…congrats on all three… /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

I'm not always right but I'm never wrong.

The above are my opinions.

I hadn't thought of that. That could be fun.

I still intend to breath and have a life. It might just be a small one and will be hibernating in the meantime.

And w/this 'dialog' you expect to pass your Psych-Eval?? Split personality .. am I a 'cop' or a 'fire-fighter' … I'm both ….

How are you going to pull that off? My father was a volunteer fireman for a long time, but once he became a cop he just didn't have time for both plus a family life. But to be the fire chief AND cop? Not to be nosy but logistically how is it that going to work? Will you go for the hat trick and remain a paramedic too?

***quick edit, congrats on everything though!!!***

I still have four more years as a paramedic before I can retire from that. After academy I'm planning on working as a reserve police officer other words one that is part time. The firefighting job won't take much once I get settled in. I think it will work, somehow.

Congrats on all your accomplishments! So will you be having Uncle Charley move in to help (My Three Sons) /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I noticed you were not around but figured you had went to fight fires since TX has been dealing with all that mess lately.

I, too, would like to know how you can reconcile the fire fighter/ police issue. I'm sure you have seen some of these cop vs. firefighter videos but for those of you who have not, beware of language and adult content. So without further adieu…

The police vs fire won't be an issue. The potential police department is on the other side of town while my fire department is here where I live. Now there might be an issue remembering what job I'm doing when I'm both a paramedic and a police officer. Mainly that I don't have a certain area of town to cover anymore but we post all over the contracted area.

I've seen those videos and love them. My favorite is the firefighter vs nursing home nurse. Anyone in EMS or fire can tell you that those were written by someone in this line of work. It seems that no matter where you go, it's the same.

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July. My spousal unit proclaimed it Harry Potter weekend so we watched the first seven movies over the three day weekend. I'm about Harry Pottered out.

By the way Ryan, thank you for your service. I could never do your job but I am so grateful that there are good folks out there like you willing and able to respond during emergencies 24/7, regardless of weather conditions. The fact that you volunteer also speaks volumes about your character and commitment to your community so again "thanks". They are lucky to have you and I wish you the best with trying to balance all of that with your growing family.

Congrats Ryan on your new soon to be bundle of joy….and good luck in the academy…..if your town is the same as mine, most of the town cops are also volunteer fireman, and even hold office, its not like you have to go to every fire, etc….just hold the office of chief and make the meetings and do the records….all in all still time consuming….good luck and best wishes…
